just wondering why Hey Siri is included in a monitor?

would have liked a simple plug and play monitor in this exact form factor without the extras.
The Mac Studio doesn't have a microphone. This gives more uniformity in the macOS experience. The monitor has the A13 to process it anyway.

That's just stupid when a standalone monitor won't work with 'everything' (within reason, of course). That just smells like planned obsolescence right out of the eco-friendly box.
But the point is that it *does* work with Windows, except for features that require software support that Windows lacks. What would you have Apple do differently, and how is this “planned obsolescence”?

Would it only work on PC via Thunderbolt then? Or could you use some type of USB-C to DisplayPort adapter to get it to work? I'm assuming it has some USB-C alternate mode for display input since it supports the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 3rd and 4th Generation.

I know the previous Studio Displays worked with PCs, but you had to have DVI and a bulky converter box for getting power. Only problem? Brightness button doesn't work.
ClickMonitorDDC works to control brightness on the LG UltraFine 5K. I’m guessing it will work with the Apple Studio Display.

I’m guessing it would work with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort Alt mode, but Thunderbolt would be more reliable. If the LG UltraFine 5K is any indication, some devices might “work” in 4K mode.

That's odd, on MacOS i'm even able to run my ultrawide with a variable refresh rate (70hz-120hz) or 60, 100 and 120hz statically.
These monitors have built in hubs with 2xUSB-A and 1 USB-C. To even get 60hz I have to set them to USB 2.0 speeds. 60hz is alright for macOS, just interesting

I tried to ask product support whether this monitor support DisplayPort 1.4, I got non-sense in return. Does anyone know? I'm interested if this monitor support DisplayPort 1.4 and subsequently DSC
Since it is only 60Hz, I’m guessing not.

Interesting. So in theory, this could be used as a MacBook dock and gaming PC monitor. Or are there better solutions for that?

Well the input port is a Thunderbolt port, but it would be working in an Alternate Mode, anyway, to handle the video.

So really, any USB-C to DisplayPort/HDMI cable will probably work. You just won't have USB data transmission.

It should not have to be a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt connection on each end, though that would allow both video and data.

Does the Spatial Audio require any hardware specifics from the computer? For example, I have a Mac mini (2018). Would the Spatial Audio feature work?
It should. That seems to be a macOS feature.

I blame Microsoft for not writing Windows drivers for a piece of hardware they had no knowledge of.

I mean, that makes as much sense as blaming Apple for not writing drivers for an OS they don't own and are moving away from supporting.
It might present to Windows as a “generic” webcam, with basic features. Apple’s website just says the camera features “require a Mac,” which suggests to me that the supported iPads won’t use the Studio Display’s webcam since they have their own cameras.

I could see specialized camera features like CenterStage not working on Windows or Linux since that feature is an Apple OS exclusive.

Not necessarily. It still functions as a display. It’s great for Mac owners like me who also use a Windows PC for work. Because the LG UltraFine 5K (also marketed as a “Mac-only” display) works with Windows, I expected this to be the case, but it is nice to get confirmation from Apple.
Dumb question - When both your Mac and work PC are connected to the display, how do you switch inputs?

So basically it’s a monitor exclusively linked to a Mac and not PC, unless you really really enjoy wasting money. Got to say this isn’t a very impressive monitor giving its very high price for what it offers. Apple are selling it on the 5K gimmick, even though it’s an old 27” iMac screen.
