Thank you Tim! You just convinced me to go get an AndroidXR. I'm not paying for the same Vision Pro twice!

I remember a video of a guy driving a cybertruck with a vision pro on his head...
How to master being wrong?

I think this is a big mistake on Apples part. They should incentify upgrades so that developers continue to work on apps and so consumers have something exciting to use. Otherwise the existing AVPs will continue to collect dust on shelves...

Because there is zero market for selling refurbished Vision Pro headsets or it would diminish the value of new units. Not to mention there is zero recyclable materials.

lololo oh this. can this win frivolous comment of the year please mod? i mean this says it all.

Um, you can keep your VisionPro. -Apple

I’m rooting for you Tim. I know you’ll hit something out of the park eventually. Can there be a 3 strikes rule? The fold is coming out next year - cross your fingers buddy.

Apple today confirmed it will not be allowing customers to trade in the original Vision Pro toward the purchase of the new model or any other device.

"Apple Vision Pro is not eligible for trade-in," says Apple, in the fine print of a press release.

Some customers who spent at least $3,499 on the original Vision Pro may be disappointed to learn that Apple is not willing to offer any credit for the device.

The new Vision Pro's key changes include an M5 chip, 120Hz support, and the inclusion of a more comfortable Dual Knit Band in the box. However, the Dual Knit Band is also compatible with the original Vision Pro, and it can be purchased separately for $99.

The original model has an M2 chip, up to a 100Hz refresh rate, and a Solo Knit Band.

With no trade-in credit available to offset spending another $3,499 on the updated Vision Pro, some customers may pass on upgrading to the new model. Alternatively, customers can sell the device privately on platforms like eBay or Facebook Marketplace.

The updated Vision Pro launched in Apple Stores and began arriving to customers today.

At all Apple Store locations where the Vision Pro is available, customers can now demo the model with the M5 chip, and try the Dual Knit Band.

Why did they lie and say check back on the 22 just tell us no from the start.

If they accepted trade-ins, they'd likely be selling used / refurbished models at a discounted price. I don't think they want to show any type of a discount on the AVP yet.

With the pricing on the Samsung headset, Apple really should look at reducing the price.
Yeah sell refurb m2 ones for maybe $100 less give people maybe 1k on it sell it for 1500-1600

What’s the problem??? apple’s trade in offer is incredible low anyways. It’s just better to resell it at a higher price.

It’s like the iPad pros retail for 999-2000 doesn’t matter if you get 256gb or 2 terabytes the highest amount they accept is $695, one could sell it used for close to 1000 bucks either way.

I've had mine nearly 2 years. It's really cool but it's just missing something in the operating system. VisionOS 26 didn't improve it much at all. I really don't know if it's going anywhere at this point but was surprised they released the M5 model.

I've had the first iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, iMac g4, iMac g5, Mac Pro, Mac Pro trashcan, Mac Studio Ultra, and Vision Pro so I guess I'm considered an early adopter 😂

I never trade in to Apple anyway.

It is the most expensive video viewing device. Yeah some cool apps but nothing game changing. 3d video is great on it and cinema mode is great as well.

If the Vision Pro is such a failure and no one is buying it why do I have to wait three weeks for the dual band I ordered?
It's called "just in time inventory", which is common when a company is afraid orders will be low, so they slow the supply chain. So once the first 100 wealthy Apple fans order early, only then do the next 100 get boxed up and ready to go and the make the next 100. There is your 3-week delay.

How funny would it be if Samsung allowed the Vision Pro as a trade-in for the Galaxy XR 😂 🫣
OMG…that is an excellent marketing idea on their part if they were to extend a $1K or so ‘trade-in’ value for ‘old’ (1.5 year old product) Vision Pro’s. Then they could ‘sell’ their ‘not-Vision-not-Pro SMgoggles’ for $800, so they’d only lose several hundos per device! But the marketing and trolling of Apple would be invaluable! 😂

I recall when it first launched, people saying to buy one and just keep it sealed box. Will be worth a fortune some day. Well that day has come… e-waste.

Defeats the purpose of their carbon neutrality agreement.

But probs they are not doing that like AirPods cos it’s so hard to repair them and refurbish them.

This decision must be because of hygiene reasons.
I doubt it has anything to do with hygiene. The actual hardware doesn’t touch your face. The foam shield and head strap can be tossed or recycled.

Meanwhile, people’s phones are touching their face/ears and get spit on when they talk. People take their iPhone or iPad into the bathroom with them…or they use their devices after not washing their hands. I’d say iPhones are more unsanitary than Vision Pros.

My guess for Apple not wanting them back is because they’re already having a hard time selling them as it is. They don’t want to have more inventory to deal with, nor do they want to sell them as refurbished for cheaper and cannibalize M5 sales. Plus, Vision Pros are reselling for around $1,800 on eBay. Apple can’t compete with that.
