In what Universe is Twitter worth 10 Billion dollars? It's not this one.

As an old fart I don't see any value in Facebook, Twitter or the like.

A lot of people that complain about privacy issues have all their "private" stuff out in the open.

Since I do things at my own pace, I google info when I need it and wait when it's something worth waiting for.

Maybe I should open an asocial network. "GetLost.com"

You sign in and don't blog or post anything!

I can't see Apple pulling it off. I actually can't see them pulling off web stuff in general, other than stores. They can't make Dropbox (iCloud is bleh) they can't make Facebook/Twitter (Ping is bleh.)

Honestly, I don't even want to see them try with social networking. The company has the wrong values, I think. People don't want to pay a lot of money for a premium networking experience... The superior experience already exists, and that's called hanging out. Sometimes it's inconvenient, so people settle for the inferior experience of Twitter/Facebook.

Having said that, I use Find My Frends quite often. It does help with making hanging out easier. I wouldn't pay extra for it, though.

I don't get people who complain about twitter. You can follow tools who don't even technically run their twitter (Ashton Kutcher) or experts in fields you're interested in. Personally I follow legit journalists and people I find funny. I get value from it daily.

I sure hope Apple keeps their mitts off Twitter - they would just muck it up and break it. Never known a single person to use Ping. Just stick to what you're good at, Apple - high profit margins on consumer devices.

Same here, Twitter is amazing and I follow only people or sites that I am interested in (mostly related to web design and technology). It is very useful and informative and it has practically replaced RSS feeds for me.

I do the same with Google+ but use it less. Facebook on the other hand I just no longer care about. Facebook also appears to be on decline, while Google+ is booming.

As far as Apple investing in Twitter, I think it is a great idea. But I am not sure about Apple outright buying Twitter. It is clear that Apple doesn't "gets" social and Twitter as it is is doing fantastic, tho I would have liked that they had bought Instagram instead of Facebook.

But Apple does seems to need a social element at this point. I wonder if they ever considered buying something like Last.fm, which they could make a lot of use for by sharing the music people listen to in iTunes in their iOS Devices and Mac (also in Windows) and by sharing the movies and tv shows they watch on their AppleTVs (like Netflix does on Facebook).

And I don't get people who don't get people who complain about Twitter. ;)

I dislike Twitter because it is too truncated. I need more space to rant than 140 characters.

And it better be not like Ping.

I think Ping could have gone somewhere but they didn't continue to develop it and expand on it.

I think in these days, introducing a social network requires that you also introduce features that are better or equivalent to the competition. That is where Ping failed.

Twitter is cool, but lacks free push notification service. Any news feed that delivers immediate information should provide some sort of push notification. Yes, I'm away they have a jewel that updates and gives you a counter of new messages. But get real. Thats just basic stuff.

Come on, In fairness everyone tried that. Remember, MSN and AOL online services.

If Apple buys Twitter, I sell AAPL.

I don't see why this even matters. Recent news from Facebook and Zynga show that the social media model only gets you so far.

Exactly. Facebook can only go down now. People were spending all day on that dumb thing, and they're probably bored at this point. Facebook has a use, but it's been used way past that usefulness. Once people start to leave, more people leave. I know a lot of people at my school who quit Facebook, not that you can ever actually quit since they don't let you delete your account.

The article says investing and not buying. So, will you sell AAPL if they're only investing?

And are these changes to Apple due to the new CEO? Would Steve Jobs lead the company in this direction?

I hope not, I want more social media things to DIE not become more prevalent.

I don't really like to follow people. Companies, yes, but no person deserves that much of my attention. I don't find Twitter very annoying (since I don't use it), but Facebook has a way of annoying people who don't use it with its groups and online chat. If people want me to make a Facebook account to message them, I just have to say "Sorry, I don't use Facebook.".

Oh, but the whole trend of putting the pound (#) sign in front of stuff is stupid. Isn't it supposed to denote a category on Twitter? People seem to put it in front of random things.

"Investing" means "buying", and "buying" could mean only buying part of it. I think it's a terrible idea for Apple to buy a large part of Twitter. Besides the fact that I don't like Twitter (not relevant), I just don't see what Apple could do with it. Clearly, they're not very good with social networking, and the company value of Twitter is bound to go down.

Buying Twitter?
I think it would be make sense if they are planning to:
1. Replace iMessage with Twitter or integrate
2. Use Twitter for information highway in their new icloud service.
3. Create application based twittering service to allow third party apps to communicate with each other for businesses. (Taking Twitter to the Next Level, Business Side)

2. Use Twitter for information highway in their new icloud service.

Hmmm
Or they could just not buy Twitter and make Twitter accounts that store all of the iCloud information as text strings in their tweets :D (evil face)
