Seriously.
When I chose a new password solution (moving off 1Password), I briefly considered Apple Passwords but part of why I opted for another solution was to avoid any further Apple connection.

All of this has paused so much of my remaining enthusiasm for Apple.
I'm just sort of in neutral with all of my tech right now.
What password solution did you move to?

Strongbox (Apple device friendly/optimized frontend for Keepass database)

I was close to choosing Proton Pass, which was essentially at feature polish/parity with 1P in my testing.

The main thing I learned is that I should have looked around sooner, as the options out there have gotten a lot better in recent years.

Seriously Apple? Do you really need to slowly ******tify every single one of your user experiences for the sake of never-ending profit growth?
Yes obviously. Ternus has a $55 million incentive package. To earn it Number Must Go Up. TINA! (There Is No Alternative if you don't know that one.)

Interestingly enough I just saw an article that Apple didn't raise prices enough and that the Holy Profit Margin might be endangered.

Think Different is dead, long live Think Profit!

More philosophically, advertising hit diminishing returns log ago. The increasing desperation of companies to get you to buy something, anything, can't a sign of good economic health. I don't recall ever seeing a Youtube commercial for something I might actually want. I don't have TV reception so I don't know what's getting pushed on there.

Well, I was just about to preorder the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and the Duo but after seeing the way Apple wants to go, I think I’ll keep my 17 Pro Max and Apple Watch Ultra 3 and wade it out. I don’t pay the Apple tax for nothing. If ads start coming on apps like this then I’ll do what I was going to do last year and sell the lot and go Linux. Apple are just greedy. Profit is king. Cook has more money than he could ever spend. Why?? Can’t believe I would ever have cancelled placing an order for the new iPhone when I’ve had every one since the first. Sick of ads. End of.

I have used SB since the beginning and contributed a number of bug reports and feature requests. The sale of SB is a disappointment and there have been a few problems along the way. I am looking at moving everything from iCloud to Proton Drive as the first step in decoupling from Apple.

If you upgrade to iOS27 you'll have ads it's not a Duo exclusive.

Tell me more! Who did it sell to?

I heard this a lot. It's just background noise to me now. Apple probably thinks the same because Linux lacks software compared to MacOS and Windows. I would love to go full Linux, but I am dependent on Excel. Yes there open source alternative that is good enough for the average Joe, but the financial world runs almost exclusively on Excel. If you're a bean counter and you don't use Excel as your main spreadsheet, you'll get ostracized PDQ. I'm not going to give up PhotoShop for GIMP. The interface is too alien for me to relearn what comes naturally using PS.

Linux is fantastic if you're a developer. There are more IDE and compilers on Linux than you can shake a stick at. For everything else, it's a distant 3rd.

Yeah see I don’t need my computer for work at all and don’t use many apps anyway. I use it for personal use. The watch I’d get a garmin. Phone id get a pixel and put lineageos on or something. Computer id get a premium laptop and put on it ubuntu or something. I don’t mind learning new programs for Linux.

Me: I'm finding it hard to take that final step to exit the Apple ecosystem.

Apple: Say no more, we gotchu. *forces ads into absolutely everything*
Death from a 1000 cuts? Right? It still would be hard for me to exit the ecosystem.
