Hello Sunshine media company is likely trying to 'sell high' and take advantage of bidding wars for content.

Don’t know why people on macrumors hate ATV+ so much. It has some quality content. Lot of people who are not angry macrumors commentors actually like the shows.

The only reason Netflix is going big on anime is because it's cheap to produce and can be created as an easy cash-in on other existing franchises, lots of which are currently receiving anime spin-offs.

If that's "the big future for streaming" then heaven help us.
"cheap to produce" and "easy cash-in"

How would this not be the big future for streaming? :) People want lots of content in a variety of genres and tastes, not Apple TV+.

Buy Viacom or loose the streaming wars, it's that simple. So much quality content; Nickelodeon to offer children shows and rival Disney, MTV and BET for music which apple holds as it's staple foundation, huge franchises like Star Trek that offer Apple like Sci Fi, Comedy Central - no brainer, plenty of sports rights from NFL, March Madness, etc and of course movie studios in Paramount pictures, Miramax and United International Pictures all of which allow Apple to ramp up movie production much faster than starting from nothing.

Disney would finally have real competition on content numbers.

In the same way dodgy Windows PCs and Android phones are cheap to produce but Apple makes premium quality hardware maybe that’s the same with its content output? Maybe Apple wants to focus on creating a higher quality experience with notable writers and directors, not animated spin-offs of remakes of 90s videogames.

🤣 No, they just have a (currently) two season show dedicated to the making of an ’00’s video game.

If another media company buys them, those "great ideas" will be on their streaming platform, not ATV+.

And "The Morning Show" and the other projects Apple has with them would very likely eventually be pulled from ATV+ once the current streaming deals for each expires.
Very much this. Apple has had the rug pulled out from under them, and they don't like it. Buying to make certain that the content (current and new) isn't denied to them in the future seems prudent, if they feel the company is a good fit for them.

Like aiming for big-budget AAA games for Apple arcade or only top names for music streaming? Content is fundamentally different from hardware, they really need to deliver TV content in a very broad spectrum.

The fact that Apple doesnt provide the general public detailed breakdown of its revenue on service-by-service basis, doesn't man that Apple doesn't know how much it is earnings from paid subscribers and how much it is investing in keeping this service at float. Saying that Apple TV+ is in its infancy is not accurate, since Disney+ was also recently lunched but had tremendous success and attracted many viewers without offering year-wide free subscription. I guess time will tell.

I haven’t paid a dime to Disney either. It’s been free trials or included with Verizon.

Ultimately if states and fed have their way with 15/30 percent App Store takes, then apple may think twice about video. Selling channels is the name of the game for apple.

But it’s obvious apple isn’t all in on this yet. I’m guessing they’re waiting to see where all this goes too while dabbling in it.

I say more steaming platforms the merrier. They have to compete and we win. I don’t think much of apples choices of content but hopefully they’ll keep at it. Or even get serious about it later.
I agree! I’ve never seen half as much quality sci-fi content in production as there is now. No way all these shows are profitable, but hey — I’ll let that be a problem for the green visor people lol

I'm early but I'm liking the morning show so far.
Nothing groundbreaking, it's no "The Sopranos", but at least you can see it's good quality.
I'll soon start Ted Lasso and Trying.
Very curious about the Foundation.
