I like the name Mac OSX to stay Mac OSX. iOS should be for mobile products only.

I agree. except it looks like apple is hellbent on stupidity

sorry, I like Macintosh OS X, i think they just need to keep Mac OS going on.

iOS, is just not the same. Mac is more powerful.

It looks like Apple is seriously mistreating its desktop and laptop lines. they are all but ignoring advancement in it right now.

where are the new Mac Pro's, new iMac's. and more

sorry, but i it is time for new Apple TV, Mac Pro, and a mid range tower.

apple needs to focus on MAC's more!!!

It makes sense IMO for them to rebrand the Mac OS name to iOS. With the all the popularity of the portable products I always feel the Mac is a separate entity from the rest of Apple's products and I don't like that one bit. Bringing it all together with one branded name for all of their products would make sense.

I wonder if Flash will be available under iOS Desktop? ;)

Steve's mission to eradicate p0rn from the internets moves closer to the desktop. :p

Mac is dead...

Because of a name change? Get a grip. They want a common name that will link the popular iPhone and iPod to re Mac. It's a way of encouraging mobile device owners to become Mac owners.

Seems like a decent idea to keep the range nice and simple for new users with less confusing names. It will also pave the way for the convergence of the two OS's as the iPad and Mac evolve into each other.

As anticipated - there goes the Macintosh and it's valued operating system. Pros not updated, no real innovation in the Mac branded computers, MBA not renewed...

Another indication to say good bye to the Macintosh Computer line. Apple is really focusing these days only on the consumer portable device. Sad day indeed...:(

A little fatalistic, don't you think? The rumor only reports that Apple is considering changing the name of Mac OS X. Why assume that Apple is going to slowly kill off its computer lines? That's ridiculous and alarmist.

I hope they don't do this, I can understand them renaming the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to all run under 'iOS'. But to include that in the desktop line would be stupid. Mac OS it should remain.

Graphic Designers, Programmers, Movie Editors, Accountants, Game Makers, Magazine Editors, and Movie Studios are not going to use an iPad or an iPhone to do their work.

Unless Apple plans on switching over to Windows or Linux machines, OS X and Macs are going nowhere.

Mac OS X is indeed doomed. :(

Wha??? ... with massive emphasis on the word arguably.

IMHO :)

Macs, these days, are just low to mid range PCs made in China with rather insane price tag attached to them.

iDevices, although beautifully designed, functionally are nothing special due to iOS which is equally nothing special.

Monitors, again beautifully designed, but nothing more than average LGs at huge price...

etc...

Only AWESOME thing still proudly standing is MAC OS X...

Rest is meh quite frankly

Last i checked iOS is Mac OS with desktop parts cut out, Mac OS already heavily benefits from the optimisations made to iOS as of 10.6.

If they feel avg joe will recognise the iOS brand more than Mac OS brand when selling a computer then they'll do it just to sell more computers on a now more familiar brand.

There are still people that would recognise Apple = iPod and wonder who makes Mac's and Mac OS.

It would be different if it was Apple OS, but then your still better selling Apple iOS to the new public that do not know what a Mac is anymore due to Windows taking on such a large market.

I'm not a fan of the "iOS" moniker, but I recognize that they can't keep using "OS X" forever. That started 10 years ago! "OS XI" doesn't have quite the same ring to it either.

Well it's only logical to name OS eleven after 10.9 is done. Or should apple keep going, like 10.14. LOLz, then updates would look like 10.14.5.6. Is that a url?

Don't you mean 'it's probably iNevitable' ?

:D

Hehe, that's a good one. I personally think it sounds kinda stupid, just because it would be (hopefully) two different OSes under the same name. Confusing much? But I don't think they are dumb enough to make it actually operate under the same principle, that would just be a waste of computing power. Running iApps on an i7, little overkill there. I suppose I don't really care what they call it either, I'm just not a fan of the idea.

Sci-Fi now

I would like to think that rather than killing off an elegant, intuitive operating system like OS X Apple is taking first steps towards making the touch screen computers we see in movies like "Avatar" and "Minority Report" a reality for the masses. Whether those kinds of computers are really practical in desktop settings remains to be seen, but that's my hope.

...where are the new Mac Pro's, new iMac's. and more...

I understand clamoring for MacPro updates, but the iMac line was just updated this past fall. The MacBooks and MacBook Pros were just recently updated as well, and the new Mac mini just came out last week.

The Apple TV desperately needs an update, but I'm thinking that Apple has something in the works that will be a pretty major departure from the old model. As for the Air, who knows.

I really think this is bold faced rumor.

The way it is now, makes sense.

iOS = iProducts

Mac OS = Mac products
