Digital Foundry just put out a video yesterday talking about Metal 4’s new functions that seem to focus on games. The Metal 4 announcements were joined with another “Cyberpunk 2077 on Mac this year” announcement so it seems like we are again in Apple’s on-again phase for Mac gaming. I do wonder how long it will be until Apple goes back to their off-again phase though.
I hear it depends which side of the bed Tim gets out of.

No idea what the movie will be like.

But Apple TV+ in general has the highest quality (though obviously not quantity) of any streaming platform out there IMO.

20 years from now, Harvard business school will have Apple as a case report example about how not sticking to its core skills and core consumer needs leads to the end of a company...
“We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,” he said. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.”

I'm an F1 fan and have followed the sport since the 80's and I think this film looks rubbish, I was annoyed with how it took over last season too. F1 driver egos are already big enough, now they'll be in a film on the big screen! Oh dear lol.
Agreed! And loved that Max didn’t even want to go to their silly Times Square event but rather race in Europe

Apple should shut down everything except core things related to Mac, iPhone and iPad - sort of when SJ came back and nixed OpenDoc and all that other crap.
Problem is, SJ is gone - the only other visionary leader able to do that would be Musk.

I have been a formula one fan for over 50 years and I will certainly not be watching this movie. The storyline is ridiculous and there’s no connection to any realism in this sport. This might be a good watch for the drive to survive crowd, but for real Formula One fans, I can only see it as a major turn off. Plus as many have mentioned Brad Pitt is way past his prime. Watching the effort that has gone into the making and marketing of this movie really saddens me given how little effort nowadays seems to be made to improve the core product that made Apple the amazing company they are. And please don’t tell me about those people not being software engineers or whatever it’s about money distribution and obviously they are putting more money into movies than they are currently putting into their absolute garbage software.

Apple promoting the movie as another underdog story isn’t helping them.

Rush is my favorite racing movie. Its original and has interesting story with character development. I haven’t seen this yet but they should gone for a more original storyline.

It's almost like software engineers don't work on the film projects, so that wont be a problem. There are different departments and hiring staff to make a new department make no difference to other departments.
Silly comment. Of course they are not the same people. It’s the money and effort distribution that is causing holes in their core product. Keep your eyes on the ball…is not what Apple are doing at all.

I think what they meant in that comment was "no car manufacturers want", at least that's how I read it. But I agree, I would love CarPlay Ultra and annoyed with how little info we've gotten.
We are aware some makers backed away from CP Ultra, like those who have silly software such as Merc, but the following 16 brands (some of which have the same parent company) remain committed:

Acura Audi Ford Genesis Honda Hyundai Infiniti Jaguar Kia Land Rover Lincoln Nissan Polestar Porsche Renault Volvo

But it totally tracks that my parents' generation wants to see themselves as the heroes in their own story, even as the world gives plenty of evidence to the contrary. The older generation is, ironically, stuck in adolescence.
I have absolutely no comprehension of what in the world you are talking about. "Stuck in adolescence"--what does that even mean? And whatever it means, how can you apply that to the entire "older generation?"

Didn't Ford v Ferrari do quite well? If so, then there might actually be a market for this movie.

Since I surprised myself by liking Ford v Ferrari, I will likely watch F1 as well. But I'll be danged if I spend $$$ on going to a theater to watch a movie that will eventually show up on Apple TV+, which I already spend my hard earned $$$ to subscribe to.

"However, the service has yet to produce a breakout theatrical success or significantly impact the broader streaming landscape in terms of subscriber volume."

I wonder how many people think AppleTV+ can only be seen on an Apple device. If it's a lot of people, would Apple want to do something about that?

ive said it before and i'll say it again.

Someone high up at apple grew up with a childhood dream of being a big hollywood producer; and are leveraging their power at apple to make that a reality.

I think Apple’s been completely unhinged with making this thing a success.

The WWDC F1 opening. I saw comments about how they turned environmentally friendly headquarters into a racetrack (through movie magic)

Wallet pop-ups.

I think there’s a written article on Variety or Hollywood reporter about Brad Pitt’s drinking problem. I’m so detuned from alcoholics because they’re insufferable and I live with two of them that I just can’t care.

It’s like they announced it way too soon anyway. They were better off keeping it under wraps. Did Apple have another event planned last year that they scrapped? It’s like they told the Cyberpunk devs … “you can announce it but can’t talk about it until we do.” It just seems like they’re sitting on this for a hardware event.

According to the Wikipedia page for Ford v. Ferrari, it only made about twice its budget at the box office: ~$100m to make, $200m in ticket sales. I was under the assumption that these things need to double their money to break even after marketing and theaters getting a percentage of those ticket sales.

+ all of those Apple college ads they pulled.

Apple prides itself in its marketing. They really need to clean house and find a different agency to run their ads.

I like F1, but have no interest in this movie and racing movies in general. Racing series have a far amount of actual drama, be it NASCAR, F1, Indy.

Even the premise of Brad Pitt playing an older driver taking a young one under his wing seems far fetched.

The teams have academy drivers and junior teams to do their training, like RB and Racing Bulls, Mercedes and Williams, etc. A young driver will either do well or get bounced, see RB, see Alpine. It's fairly ruthless.

But this is also the first time I've read that it was $250 million to make. That's seems high, but like others have mentioned, maybe someone at Apple really wants to get into Hollywood productions, and hey, it's cool to hang out with celebrities.
