I'm hoping for a fix for the following bugs...

1. Using back button in Finder window does not recognize .DSSTORE file.
2. Spotlight defaults to hard drive rather than folder being searched.
3. Mail crashing when using right-click

If they fix these 3, I will be very happy with :apple:

Did you file a bug?

If iTunes 8 ships Tuesday (and there are now sprinklings of doubt about that), then I think 10.5.5. could/would ship Monday so the OS can be "ready" for it (and to save problems doing an OS update and then an iTunes update).

If iTunes 8 does not ship Tuesday, then it will likely show up sometime that week or next.

Whingers Anyone?

I dont get you people, im talking about the ones who go on and on about leopard or apples products
Our imac has never had problems and leopard is great, all our ipods work great and our iphone works great too no sign of any of the problems you people whinge about, i reckon your just unlucky, apples products may have bugs and stuff, none of which effect me.

Well that's good that nothing affects you, but believe it or not, there is a lot of people who do have problems.

And "whinge" about..? Really, stop acting like a big guy here. People pay a premium price for Apple's products, and it is only fair and expected that when they don't work as advertised, people will complain and discuss the issues they are having.

Maybe you just "don't get" the whole idea of this website being a community forum where the majority of discussions are dealing with problems and issues users are faced with.

Other annoyances with Finder's back button: if you have the toolbar in text only mode, it only says BACK, and there is no way to achieve FORWARD, while they managed to get this to work sensibly in Preview.app; the back button also doesn't work properly when exploring packages - it skips the root level inside the package and takes one back to where the application/package is instead ... oh wait, that's actually cmd-up arrow, not the back button :).

Will be interested to see if my bugs fall into this lot of 125 or however many it is now. Will not be holding my breath.

>>I see Mac OS 10.5.5 coming out this coming Monday or Tuesday.
---

Probably tomorrow or Mon if they want to present it as fully working Tues

APPLE almost always releases stuff in the mid-late afternoon.
Im sure it would be a day earlier to get it set up and and ready

Kinda like CD/DVD stores that get their new releases on a Monday-so they can put them out street legal when they open on Tues am

Nothing made by man is full-proof - or fool-proof, for that matter.

For the most part my OS X experience has been great, but every once in a while the OS will just totally lock-up to the point I have to power-cycle the computer to recover any functionality.

It's rare, so I roll with it. But I understand others have more systemic issues and it is nice to see Apple addressing them. However, Apple first needs to know about them. ;)

1. We don't pay premium prices, we pay the right price for very good products.
2. Users on these forums always cry like babies and sometimes (not always) their problems are users errors (and quite noone read istructions, 90% of support where i work are for crap things but these users will not stop to post on forums and say "i have problems")

Anyway i agree that lately most probles could be avoided by Apple with more testing. But just go to try Windows for 3-5 days... i have done it for work and damn... it is sooo crap imho.

Need to change your title. ;)

On topic: I guess I'll finally reinstall Leopard and give it another go. I switched back right after installation because of it's instability.

Yep. Unstable for me two. I welcome the update. My Screen/Saver wallpaper preference pane just broke.

That's OK then, because you are, after all, the only part of the world that matters right? If it doesn't affect you then obviously its either made up or irrelevant.

Do you realise how ridiculous you sound yet?

1. We don't pay premium prices, we pay the right price for very good products.

Yes, "the right price for very good products", which is often described by many as "premium prices". I don't think anyone objects to paying "premium" prices when they get premium products in return. Or to put it in a way that might be more acceptable to you: If you pay "the right price for very good products" then the products really do need to be "very good".

I'm not suggesting that Apple fail in this regard. But if you look at things objectively, rather than through RDF-tinted eyes, you could say that with the prices they charge and the expectations they've set in the past for exceptional service, Apple do have rather less 'wriggle room' to avoid doing the right thing when there are problems. If they don't continue to maintain the difference in product quality and service over other computer manufacturers then the value proposition of buying a Mac changes.

2. Users on these forums always cry like babies and sometimes (not always) their problems are users errors (and quite noone read istructions, 90% of support where i work are for crap things but these users will not stop to post on forums and say "i have problems")

You're right. That 10.5.4 file server that just hung and stopped talking to the network yesterday because it re-enabled the two hardware Ethernet ports it has and over-rode the virtual "bonded" port that had been created with them.... clearly user error, even though nobody has logged into the server for a week and a half, and the last person that did (me) is an experienced server engineer and didn't go near networking settings anyway.

Anyway i agree that lately most probles could be avoided by Apple with more testing. But just go to try Windows for 3-5 days... i have done it for work and damn... it is sooo crap imho.

And yet the Windows servers in the rack next to the Apple server I describe above don't randomly disable the virtual "bonded" network connections we've created, re-enable the connections we've disabled and then drop off the network causing a major outage.

I love Apple's products but they're not perfect, and acting defensive and pretending that they are perfect just makes you look silly.

Exactly. I hate when these threads descend into randomly bashing Windows. I have Vista 64-bit installed with boot camp, and have never had any problems with it, not even on the level of the dozen or so niggling bugs that STILL irk me so with Leopard.

1. bartzilla answered that well.

2. User error? You have to open your eyes and see that the not every computer user is an "uber geek" that knows exactly how to fix a problem. Yes, a lot of the time it might be some simple setting they've not enabled, but how are they supposed to know that if they don't ask?

If you aren't capable of helping people, rather than back lashing them because you have issues at your work place, then maybe these internet discussions aren't for you.

Amazing how Apple can drop the ball on the "little things" that can be fixed in less than an hour. Interface errors should prove the most embarrassing.

Yep and then there's other things like right now, my MBP has been on for a couple of days now, sleeping when not in use, and as a result, the graphical corruption stage has kicked in, so I'm off to restart - maybe they can fix that, only like 7 months since it went very much public and they claimed that the people who needed to fix it knew nothing about it.

Data loss issues and security holes are generally considered much more embarrassing for the engineer(s) responsible for them.

Well, that is true, Catfish. When Tiger came out, there were a few (not many) annoyances there as well. However, I was more patient because people were losing data due to Security Vault.

With Leopard, however, there has been no data loss that I know of. Just a lot of incompatibility issues. Being in job where I design interfaces, for me, fixing errors in navigation is a big priority. It should be for Apple as well, because it is used EVERY day by EVERY user.

There seem to have been more security issues than normal with Leopard - things with iCal that Apple was apparently told about in February and fixed in July; the ARD thing that took over a month to fix from when it was reported widely, etc. and there seem to have been more bugs to fix than in previous OS Xs as well - or at least they've been more explicit about it (250+ in 10.5.2, must be up over 600 by now).

And there have been more widespread and widely reported issues that have been ignored - in fact I've not been affected by any in the past, but have the MBP graphical corruption, random refusals to connect to SMB shares, forgetful Airport, random wakeups while lid closed, and others that are very well known but still remain ignored.

Hoping Apple fix the inconsistent syncronization error with MobileMe

Any news about the update ?
I strongly hope that Apple can add also the fix for these inconsistent error during syncronization with MobileMe.
All my contacts data are still ONLY in the Cloud and there's no way to syncronize these data with my empty Address Book into my mac

I'm surprised we haven't seen it by now. Possibly it's more evidence that new laptops will arrive in the next month, and 10.5.5 will be released around the same time.

I initially had problems getting my contacts to sync to the cloud. After a couple of online chats with Apple's MobileMe support reps, this procedure fixed everything:

I had to first unregister all of my systems from MobileMe. Then on my main Mac I had to start the iSync app, go to preferences, and click "Reset Sync History." Then in the MobileMe prefs panel I re-registered the Mac, then synced, telling it to replace cloud data with data from the Mac. That updated the cloud correctly. (I always look at my main Mac as the residence of the "official" data.)

On my other systems I had to again Reset Sync History from the iSync app, start Address Book and delete all entries, then go to the MobileMe prefs panel, re-register and sync, telling it to replace the computer's data from the cloud. Finally all of the contacts made it across to each system.

No problems of any kind since I did all that.

I still think we will see Mac OS 10.5.5 this month.
