Many if not all of those business leaders would love Apple's 78% App Store margins, or getting paid by another company $20 billion a year not to make a competing product. That's what they admire.
Yeah, actually they don’t admire apple — they admire money. If these companies would care more about human issues, environmental issues and also spend massive money to stop wars and the collapse of the world — then they would qualify for any admiration. Unfortunately we know that most companies donate for social issues, but compared to annual profits it’s nothing so they’re only giving the world crumbs. Nothing to admire here.

Things Apple has contributed to society, NOT including its products (which have made overwhelming contributions to society)

Now do the other side of that coin. I'll start...

- One of Apple's greatest products (iPhone) and App Store has lead to the proliferation of social media apps which has harmed children and teen mental health in a negative way.

It’s funny to see ordinary people defending multi billionaire companies as if they care about you haha I use Apple products and for the premium prices I pay I have the right to say they’re delivering the bare minimum as any other company — to cut costs. If we keep defending them instead of holding them accountable, they will only continue to have fun in the playground with our money in their pockets thinking they don’t need to deliver (not only for the costumer but for the world as a whole) for what they charge us everyday.

I agree we need to hold companies to account.

"The Cult of Apple" is certainly a thing unto itself, born as a result of the slick marketing work of hangers-on like Guy Kawasaki back in the 1980s who purposefully encouraged people to build church-like adoration toward brands, particularly Apple. Now you see it everywhere—people parading around like walking billboards, subservient to any one of a number of corporations that they feel more kinship toward than their fellow human.

I learn lots on MacRumors. I admire the people here who have selflessly taught me new things about my Apple devices. But Apple the company? It can burn in a fire for all I care. I paid my money, I got products that serve fixed needs very well. A worthy exchange. They don't get my emotional investment for free, too.

Social media was coming regardless, unfortunately, and I remember it happening quite well. When I was in grad school in the early 2000s, I was taking a high-level math course with about 30-40 students, and each seat in the classroom had a laptop. During a class break, 5/6 of the people in the class opened the laptop and went to Facebook... I was in the back row so I could see it.

Then, at least, it was restricted to college students and algorithmic news feeds weren't a thing. Sigh.

Yeah it’s weird to me too.

The problem arises on this forum when you say something to defend Apple and someone accuses you of shilling for them because you dared to not criticise Apple for whatever the ‘thing’ is. Too many people are completely disrespectful of other people’s opinions and just try to disparage the poster than make a cogent argument.

While I disagree that you can blame social media on the iPhone, I never said Apple was perfect. Just that they contribute a lot to society outside of their products, which despite being unquestionably true, as I predicted is ruffling a lot of feathers among the "Apple has lost its way under Tim Cook crowd."

Ah yes, people who like Apple products are a cult who are emotionally invested in the company and therefore their opinions don't matter. My mistake. I guess the hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars given to charities don't count as contributing to society then.

What a strange way to look at a corporation washing excess money it took from us, its customers, to avoid tax obligations.

A trillion dollar company, casting a coin into the cup of the needy on its way to swim in its money pile. When Apple converts to a B-corp, then I'll celebrate their benevolence.

As someone who trades Apple in the Stock Market and has seen 2 downgrades in a period of a week and slumping Iphone Sales in China, I'm not entirely excited for their earnings report this afternoon.

Yeah... That's certainly a sad aspect here, and unfortunately seems to be the norm.

Of course, that goes BOTH ways...

Peoples opinions are people's opinions, not automatically wrong or right based upon how they frame Apple. There are definitely extremists at both ends, meaning "an Apple can do no wrong" crowd and an "Apple is always wrong" crowd. To me, the most interesting comments by far are from those in the middle who can sometimes be quite positive about something from Apple but other times be equally negative... because they are calling both as THEY see it... as consumers... not biased only to one extreme. The value I get from this website is from that kind of contributor. The extremists at both ends are just noise to me.

People here like to cry alot about bugs and innovation. But the fact of the matter remains, they just make great products. I have been using iPhones since 2008 and they have all been rock solid. I was a long time windows user even while owning iPhones. I refused to pay for "overpriced" Apple computers. In 2017 I bit the bullet and bought an Intel i5 MacBook Pro. It still kicking strong today. But I am looking forward to getting an M4 Macbook Air when it comes out.

I bought Apple TV in 2015, still works flawlessly today. I gave it to my parents since I bought the Apple TV 4K.
