Hopefully some decent trade-in offers pop up and I can trade-in my iPhone 12 Mini to upgrade to the 13 Mini for little-to-nothing out of pocket.

I was really confused with the pricing slide:

View attachment 2052666

iPhone 12 from $599
iPhone 13 from $599
iPhone 14 from $799
iPhone 14 Pro from $999

Not to mention looking at the comparison of all 3 phone there is very little difference between the three.

What's confusing?
  • iPhone SE price is unchanged.
  • iPhone 12 is only available in regular size and is an additional $100 cheaper.
  • iPhone 13 is only available in regular and mini and are each $100 cheaper.
  • iPhone 14 adds a Plus model and eliminates the mini. Prices are the same as launch prices were for the comparable iPhone 13 models.

Been able to convince a lot of people I know with iPhone SE's to upgrade to the 13 Mini. Sad to see were not getting a 14 mini. It's great for those who want a smaller size phone.

If there was a iPhone Mini Pro I'd be all over it. The current iPhone Pro has gotten fat.

Exactly. It's something I'll never understand. Even 5'8 would have been okay but 6'1 to be normal is so downright abnormal to me.
Normal in the iPhone world. In the Android world 6.1 is considered compact / mini... The Samsung S22 is 6.1, there is basically no current smaller flagship available (none, including the Zenfone 9, which is exactly the same size, just with more bezels).
That's crazy, I still have 5.8in phone and that's the perfect size for me... I'd rather go a little smaller (read: shorter) than bigger.

If Apple were smart, they'd make the Mini the new SE and do an update every couple years or so. Right now they've got a bunch of stubborn people like me who are going to hold on to their Mini for like 5 years when we otherwise would have upgraded every couple years.

At last iPhone, Mini is saved for now. It will be a heartbreaking day when it is discontinued.
Who says it won't be designated to become the new SE? I mean, they can't give people and emerging economies a low-cost big-screen iPhone, can they? (due to the danger of cannibalising sales of other me expensive models)

Most frustratingly the Euro and Dollar are pretty much 1:1 so Apple are price gouging in Europe to keep the price down in the USA so they can say the iPhone 14 Pro price is “Still $999”
USA:
999 USD / 998 € plus local taxes.

Ireland:
1089 USD / 1088 € plus local VAT.
And up to 6 years of statutory warranty rights in addition to Apple's warranty.

Apple's products have always been a little more expensive overseas.

Here in Europe, iPhone 13 and 13 mini continue to be sold under the same exact prices as last year: 809€ for the mini, 909€ for the regular iPhone 13.

Then, iPhone 14 is a thousand euros.

Yep, looking at the French Apple’s site I first thought they had forgotten to change the prices, but then saw iPhone 14 prices and boom! This is quite bizarre.

Definitely upgrading my 12 mini to a 13 mini. $100 drop on the 13 mini was the best news of the show for me. I'll check my provider every day for when they drop the cost. I'm keeping my gen 7 watch for another year.

Just ordered my 13 mini in the UK. Price drop not as extreme over here, £30 or so, and the trade in for my 8 Plus has dropped £30 to £100.

So I could've actually had the mini a year ago and paid the same price. Ah well. Just glad it's still here. All I want is a smaller phone, can't wait for it to arrive.

Don't tell me about it...
I'm still going to get my first pro (from a 13) this year, because I actually miss the Prores recording and the telephoto lens (I use the smartphone as a phone, main professional camera and 3D-Scanning powerhouse).
Considering I'm forced to get the 256GB (despite having 2TB of iCloud) because the 128GB one doesn't record prores 4K...it's 1400 Euros...
I repeat...1400 euros....
Jesus Christ, Apple prices have skyrocketed in Europe lately (also the new macbook air).

Yeah, same 😅
Same as well. The base model of the 14 is more than 1000€ (no need to even speak of the 14 Pro, it is just absurd). So the lowest price for the "cheapest, current" model increased by more than 200€, 25% in one go. This is quite something to see.

I suspect they’ve determined they can manage this by keeping the screen LCD (XR/11 form factor).

Going to definitely think about picking up an iphone 13 mini from an iphone 12 mini now. The 12 mini has much weaker side by side 5G performance with the 13 mini, to the point of being almost unusable on T-Mobile in San Francisco. While T-mo's rollout hasn't blanketed the city yet, the upgrade still might be worth it.

Too bad the 13 mini is still €799 over here. But it's good they kept it, so maybe I'll stick to my SE 2020 and get a used or refurbed mini in 2 years. Or maybe there'll even be a new SE in that size by then.

Looks like Apple did not want the iPhone 12 mini to go down to $500 and start to encroach on the price points established by the iPhone SE.

I've long suspected that at the end of the day, the iPhone mini will become the next SE model, probably in 2024 after the current SE has had its 2 year run. By keeping only the iPhone 13 mini, Apple's trying to squeeze the higher margins on the mini form factor as long as they can.

The current iPhone SE relies on a form factor that dates back to the iPhone 6 from 2014. I doubt that they will replace the SE with yet another 4.7" model with a home button. The next SE will probably be an updated version of the mini with the A16 processor.

The whole purpose of the SE is the lower costs by keeping an existing body style in production. By 2024, the mini will be ideal for that role, since Apple will no longer have a new mini model competing with the SE.

With all that, the value proposition on the iPhone 14 is as bad as I've seen from any iPhone introduction. By keeping the processor stuck at the A15, they're now expecting consumers to pay an extra $100 just for a spec bump on the camera. And in the meantime, they've also deleted the physical SIM card slot and gone exclusively to eSIMs. Not the best option for people who like to switch out their SIM cards for travel.
