More photos of the new Pixel are leaking.

Apple could have done something like this. I wonder if they chose their design on purpose maybe to harken back to some old school cameras? It’s a very industrial design. They’re not shying away from focusing on the camera bump. You see it on the front page of their website and on new billboards. With the XS Apple didn’t hide the bump but it wasn’t the focus of their ad campaigns.

I think it‘a what you’ve alluded to, it’s a deliberate design choice to make the triple cameras stand out on the Pro in particular. It’s not the most attractive at first glance but you’ll not mistake it for another brand.

I may be wrong but isn’t it due to the single sheet of glass design rather than the camera module being a completely separate component?

I don’t love the Pixel either but some might argue a big black square is better than three shiny ringed lenses inside of a square.

Right because they chose not to follow the XS design changing the oval ring to a square.

Personally I think that’s ugly as hell. I prefer the camera bump to be the same colour as the back of the phone.

Agree, a black square would contrast with especially the lighter colored bodies used without a case, and yes, be uglier. On a space grey or midnight green it wouldn’t make as much difference without a case or with a clear case.

God the black square is terrible.

when I kept seeing mock ups of it I really hoped they wouldn’t do it and I think that what they came up with looks WAY better than just a big black square on the back.

The Pixel definitely looks bolted on. But the tech press won’t care because they’ll be fangirling over the camera and telling us how much better it is than iPhone 11 Pro camera.

I actually like the camera hump matching the phone color. But since Apple didn’t think to ask my opinion it wouldn’t matter if the made them all black I’d still think the phones are fantastic.

Anything Apple touches turns to gold. Any other company’s touch causes allergic reaction.
Right.

iPhone 5C
Airpower
Battery/CPU throttling
U2 automatic download through iTunes
Bendgate (iPhone 6/6s)
Scuffgate (iPhone 5)
Antennagate (iPhone 4)
Ping
MobileMe

All gold.

I don't like the idea of completely black camera bump. I'm glad they went with the colored ones, because it kind of complements the color of the phone and shows that Apple is still paying attention to details.

I much prefer the look of the Pixel. I don't mind a black square in which the three lenses are hidden, but having the three lenses protrude from the camera bump looks like trash.

That being said, super stoked to pick mine up on Friday

Apple plans on selling removable lenses in the future so people get used to the look today and when the future iphone arrives you can buy ilenses to swap out like a 1200mm f1.8 lens for sports photography etc.

Given the extra effort involved in milling glass for the camera hump, I’d say that, yes, Apple intentionally made the decision to not make the camera hump black.
