Apple plans on selling removable lenses in the future so people get used to the look today and when the future iphone arrives you can buy ilenses to swap out like a 1200mm f1.8 lens for sports photography etc.
Not sure if you're joking but I've been hoping for that "innovation" for years. I've had to settle for the moment lens platform which has been working out pretty good so far.

Apple's main design goal is to be different.

Everybody copied the iPhone 7+ Bender camera design right after so Apple had to change the trend.

Doesn't matter though, the 3 individual camera design isn't turning anybody off that wasn't already buying one.

Pixel camera bump: ugly

iPhone pro camera bump: ‘I don’t care how it looks’:rolleyes:

Both camera bumps look ugly. Think it sticks out more on iPhone cause of the lenses.

IPhone bump is not that ugly... Pixels one is like a goat

I prefer Huawei or Samsung setup with the three cameras in a line but in end I don’t care enough to not purchase a phone because of the camera alignment and/or bump.
And people saying that the Pixel bump is ugly but the iPhone’s isn’t or vice versa coming from Android users is funny.

Appearance wise both camera housings are ugly so it boils down to camera performance where Pixel has been ahead in stills and night mode while iPhone is ahead in video.

Color match is definitely the better choose. The metal rings too is super classy... that pixel looks trash and cheap lol

I like that the bump has the same color, yet it’s glossy unlike the rest of the mate body so stands out more, I believe that it has something to do with the smooth transition between cameras, it looked so seamless during the keynote

Iphone looks like it has 3 cameras as advertised, pixel looks like it has some random black, rounded square on the back.

I'm glad they went this route instead of the pixel route.

Huawei decided to make their back camera bump circular. I don’t love it either.

Given the extra effort involved in milling glass for the camera hump, I’d say that, yes, Apple intentionally made the decision to not make the camera hump black.
I think this is the right answer here.

Sapphire glass is very expensive - and they'd need it for whole square glass cover if that's what they used. If they didn't use sapphire glass, whatever material they used would scratch easily and compromise the picture quality.

I like the look of the lenses better than a black block. Reminds me of the retro movie film camera lenses and the lenses on some digital cameras out today.

Still odd, but not nearly as bad.

I greatly prefer Apple's solution, which focuses on the cameras -- the point of having the square in the first place.

Think I’m the only one who doesn’t think the three lenses look ugly... :p

You're not at all. I was afraid they would look bad based on pre-release renders, but I like the way they turned out. It makes the Pro look like a photographic tool, which it is.
