It's all part of a very well thought out business plan. You can't compare an iPhone release, which is going to be its 8th year, to a completely new product in a new segment. If their plan seems stupid and wrong to your common sense business knowledge, I suppose it's time to hit the books.

I guess the sarcasm meters are broken today. I see a lot of missed opportunities on this news story.

Apple and Mr. Cook,

As a loyal customer, shareholder and all around fanboy, please ensure that any future launch is consistent with the Apple history and experience. Any repeat of the HOT MESS that was made of the watch launch will certainly turn future customers off, and could even reduce your loyal fan base -- starting with this fan right here.

Thank you!
CM

So you would leave Apple if they forced you to order online for the launch of the new iphone? I call your bluff!

the prediction makes a ton of sense. Supply chain prob shows even earlier production maybe starting early july this year. and he sees that. Hence his august prediction. but.... i think apple is just producing more for launch this yr. Not because it will outsell the 6 but maybe because they will do a truly global worldwide launch this year on the same day

Just order it online. That's what Apple want you to do. Who wants to line up for hours on end? Most of us have jobs to go to and stuff to do.

As long as you order early you should get it on launch day, as per every other iPhone launch.

Students have plenty of free time, so they obviously enjoy this queuing thing. Most people don't even realise that a new iPhone or Mac product is out for the first few weeks, so I always find the gnashing of teeth and the crying on these forums to be an amusing waste of energy.

They are not announcing in August. They are simply moving the manufacturing up so that they have enough stock for launch day. They do not want a repeat of the Apple Watch launch so he is simply predicting a month earlier launch because the supply chain is a month ahead compared to previous years.
They will have over stock because they days of periodic upgrades are over.
People who are NOT trying to prop up Apple have finally realized they have been taken for a ride.
The iPhone they own is working great and there is no need to upgrade any more unless it breaks.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a respectable track record at reporting on Apple's upcoming product plans, has issued a research note to clients that claims Apple will announce its next iPhones in August ahead of a September launch.

Macrumors, it's just getting ridiculous now. Do you have to "remind" everyone of his respectability, every day? Or rather, try to (unsuccessfully) convince your readers.

MR do get new readers every day who may not be familiar with the guy.

No way I'm upgrading that soon, besides I'm still on ATT's EZ payment plan from the 6.

So...it may or may not be "announced" a month early, but still released in September as usual? Wow. Amazing. Must be a slow news day.

So-are we in for an in store preview and then release the following month, a la Apple Watch?

I can't see them doing that personally, can you imagine the fights that will break out in store, with people clambering over each other to see/touch/bend/smell them!? :D

It will be like last year's Black Friday in the UK...

If it's a "hot mess" then you can go ahead and sell your stock to me.

Tempted to get rid of my 6+. It´s the first iPhone I never really liked. Touch id is to buggy, the touch screen is often unresponsive, phone is too big (I understand that is a personal thing), but the screen is the right size ;-)

I did not say I would leave. Where did you read that?

What I said was that I would not be a loyal fanboy. I would not be an Apple evangelist and I would be more open to non-Apple. The watch experience was terrible, but I will be okay if it was a one-time aberration. If this continues over an over, how could one not start to look elsewhere.

Bluff answered :)

Omg!!!!!

Apple could be launching a new phone in September!? OMG this is amazing news!!!!!!

Apple just keeps plugging away churning out mediocare updates on the current line of iphones every year even though they know darn well most people can not update for 2 years. It kind of pisses me off, but I'll probably sell my 6 and update, I'm addicted to the process thanks to Apple!

What's wrong with...
Announce early...
Have pre-orders...
Have limited supply of the most popular color/size option (yeah, but looking at marketing would show that SG would beat pink/blue/white armband)
Don't allow people to pick it up in the store on launch day
Have supply constraints
Have people wait 2 months for it...

What could go wrong?

I'm beginning to think that Angela Ahrendts' retail strategy was an emergency move because of the problem with the apple watch they discovered late that caused the supply constraints.

So she's taking the hit for her strategy which may have been a cover for another issue. I also think Apple noticed the scalper issue with the 6 launch and didn't want that with the apple watch so her strategy helped with two problems.

I don't think people got your joke. ;)

They do this every year, people predicting a new iPhone launch date of July/August.

No, just no. As always Apple will announce it in Sept and Launch in Sept. As they have been with the last few iPhone models.

Apple have changed both the iPhone and iPad launch schedules once already, there's no reason they won't alter them again.

Edit actually they've both been all over the place.

you order online as soon as the store opens like every other loyal Fanboy and receive it on launch date. Worked for me for the Apple watch.

If you are referring to turning up to a physical store everyday, joining a line of people, in the hope they might have the model you want, for me that is a complete waste of time.

What a ridiculously easy prediction. Let's marginally increase the specs across the board, and call it magical. Iphone 7 A10, 16mp, Iphone 8 A11, 16mp, iphone 9 A12, 18mp, 4k......etc

Exactly. What will be interesting is whether there will be a new feature that isn't spec related - like Touch ID on the iPhone 5S. I guess that could be force touch, and it will be interesting to see how they market it.

based on your picture (for those curious - https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=554308&d=1432214250)

It seems like Apple has done iPhone has a 3 --> 1 --> 3 pattern. It does launches in the same month for 3 consecutive years, then changes it for one year, and then changes months again for another 3 consecutive years. This puts us at the "1" spot for 2015. Interesting.

This is like when people see faces in tea leaves.
