Since we can all predict things.....

I predict a new feature that is integrated into the Apple watch that only the 6S can do.

So essentially, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple will stick to its traditional iPhone update cycle.

Groundbreaking.

Rookie move dude.

Groundbreaking.

Why are so many people liking this comment? It's not even accurate - did anyone actually read the article?

Kuo previously predicted that the main selling point of the next iPhones will be Force Touch, the pressure-sensitive display technology built into Apple Watch and new MacBook trackpads. His other predicted features for the next iPhones, many of which have already been rumored, include an A9 processor with 2GB of RAM, improved 12-megapixel camera, a new Rose Gold color option, improved Touch ID recognition, gesture control support, a new microphone added near the speaker and more.

Kuo also speculated that the device might be named iPhone CODUWHST. (Come on Droid users, we have specs too!)

Nothing new from Kuo.

Kuo's predictions tend to be, well, predictable. Everything he's said has been said by others, or is fairly obvious. If it doesn't happen, he claims it was production difficulties. When, and if, it happens later, he states that the production difficulties have been solved.

Been there, done that.

Just order it online. That's what Apple want you to do. Who wants to line up for hours on end? Most of us have jobs to go to and stuff to do.

As long as you order early you should get it on launch day, as per every other iPhone launch.

I did order my watch early, and it arrived late - very late. However, I would expect that they will do a better job with the iPhone given their history. And as for the lines, I did say I was a fanboy. I can't wait for the shipment to arrive at the end of the day to my house. I stand in line and I get my phone in the morning. I wanted to do the same with the watch (having the watch makes it better now, but I am still a little sour over the experience).

No, it can't come before, because Apple announces iOS products after the back to school year discount ends. That's a fact.

Because the phone almost always comes out in September. So, according to him, it may be a couple of weeks earlier, rather than a couple of weeks later.

Yawn.

"Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a respectable track record at reporting on Apple's upcoming product plans"

Nek minit,

"It is worth noting that Kuo has sometimes been off with his launch timing predictions in the past"

Right.

Apple and Mr. Cook,

As a loyal customer, shareholder and all around fanboy, please ensure that any future launch is consistent with the Apple history and experience. Any repeat of the HOT MESS that was made of the watch launch will certainly turn future customers off, and could even reduce your loyal fan base -- starting with this fan right here.

Thank you!

What's wrong with...
Announce early...
Have pre-orders...
Have limited supply of the most popular color/size option (yeah, but looking at marketing would show that SG would beat pink/blue/white armband)
Don't allow people to pick it up in the store on launch day
Have supply constraints
Have people wait 2 months for it...

What could go wrong?

Kuo also said this last year about the iphone 6, take this with grain of salt.
My money is Apple would still launch in september.

But that's not what the prediction is about, it's about the August preview which isn't in line with the "traditional iPhone update cycle".

"gesture control support"

Any more details on this? I keep reading it in rumor posts but I'm unsure what type of gestures and how they would work with the iPhone.

You mean like 4 finger swipe gestures on the iPad?

thx

I think it means hand tracking so you can do things without having to touch the screen. It would be very useful when cooking for example, so you don't get momma's Spaghetti Bolognese all over your iPhone when scrolling down a through a recipe.

I hope it has an A9. That would make it more likely that the Touch 6 this fall will have an A8 instead of an A7 :D.

Yeah, let's hope it has a processor that does not exist yet, the specs of which are yet unknown, that will run faster than the current-gen processor that's under-exploited by 99% of apps (so is the A7, compared to which the A8 is just a small evolutionary step).

:)

Oh. that would be cool!

thank you.

manipulation.
he is trying to pump up the stock before the event.
he will sell many shares that he currently owns just before the event at higher prices.
he will buy shares after the event again when the stock dips, as it always does.

Not manipulation. If he does own any stocks at the time of producing a report, he will need to disclose his holdings, if any. These news doesn't change the stock price by much, 1-2% at most. It is the earnings release, supply shock or macro shock that will move the stocks more, due to the unexpected nature of information.

It's all part of a very well thought out business plan. You can't compare an iPhone release, which is going to be its 8th year, to a completely new product in a new segment. If their plan seems stupid and wrong to your common sense business knowledge, I suppose it's time to hit the books.

----------

I wouldn't be surprised if they started production a month earlier than usual from release date to provide (closer to) sufficient quantities worldwide on launch for the first time ever. That would be an accomplishment for the former logistics guy who is now CEO.

Pretty sure they haven't been starting production dead on their announcement date in the past either.

Apple has never unveiled an iPhone in August, having introduced early iPhone models at or around WWDC in June, the iPhone 4s in October 2011 and all subsequent iPhone models in September.

Apple also released the iPhone 3G on July 11th.

Lately they've been releasing/announcing iPhones right around when their back to school promotion ends. For instance in 2012 their promotion ended on September 21st and the iPhone 5 came out on the 21st. In 2013 the promotion ended on September 6th and Apple announced the iPhone 5S on September 10th and released it on September 20th. In 2014 the promotion ended on September 9th and Apple announced the iPhone 6 on September 9th with release on September 19th.

Perhaps this year the calendar is a bit off, they've changed their back to school promotion—who knows. But I have a different idea: iOS 9. So I think there are two reasons Apple moved iPhone launches to the autumn. First of all, you end up with a release closer to the holidays which makes people more likely to purchase the newest gadget. But I think many people overlook that Apple wanted to center iOS unveilings around WWDC in June and have a beta period during the summer and then launch the newest iPhone with the latest iOS. If iOS 9 is more about performance optimizations, bug fixes and less about new features then it will probably take less time to test. Which means they can show it off earlier and release a little earlier if they want to this year.

If they announce it in August then it would probably be the 25th with release on September 4th.
