Hmm strange. Everyone I know has a HomePod. I’ve must have purchased about 40 of them as gifts as well. I own 3 of them because the sound quality is crazy good. I love taking FaceTime audio calls on it as well.

It’s nice that you have an extra $14,000 laying around to buy 40 HomePods with and that “everyone” you know has one. However, I think you are by far the exception.

I think the reality is that very few average consumers have even heard of the HomePod, much less spent $350 on one.

Ahhh I remember people defending this garbage, saying the premium in price is for the "smart" features. Siri sucks so you're paying more for that? lol.

Apple’s crappy software is really starting to catch-up with them.

Wonder when Tim will wake up..This is his greatest failing as CEO.

Tim is just face of Apple which I don't like in CEOs. I'm pretty sure he's clueless on technology and where it stands.

The weak sales of HomePod don’t surprise me but the apparent success of the other smart speakers does. I just can’t wrap my head around how people have so much to ask their smart speakers. I understand the timers. Oh god, the timers! Never has so much been made of setting timers. And the music, I suppose I understand. I do all these things already with my phone, by the way. It’s always with me. Between work, kids, some Netflix time, gym, dinner.... I just don’t get a bunch of time to ask trivia about penguins and set timers.

If people still care about smart speakers in a year, I’ll eat my words. I understand that not every product is for me, but I am a gadget nerd. I’ve rationalized Hue lights, colour laser printers, iPads, phones, laptops. I just don’t get it and haven’t seen a compelling use case video yet.

The product isn't ready, software-wise. Basic Sonos-like functionality: stereo pair and playing different content in different rooms, is missing. I'm really surprised they didn't release this with the 'beta' label.

Why doesn't Apple just acquire Sonos already? Their product seem most in-line with an Apple product vision. Seems like a great fit.

I wouldn’t bet that. Even Steve Ballmer was knowledgeable about technology.

You've spent $15,000 on speakers in the last 2 months for gifts??

Either your full of it, or incredibly wealthy. I think I know which it is...

Well when the price is almost the same as a Bose SoundTouch why would someone not want a speaker with better audio quality and when there are other competitive pods for a cheaper price. Tim Cook get back working on improving Airports instead yyou just wasting money now.

They are not smart enough, they are just apple speakers. drop the price for 100$ or enhance their smartness: stereo support, alexa support, equalizer support, spotify support, siri enhancements.
i know some things are promised by apple, but i never buy a product with beta or missing features.

What on earth did they think was going to happen when they went to twice the price of their main competitors...

Twice the price for 5x the technology and sound quality. The problem here isn’t Apple, it’s the media and analysts comparing a great sounding, super-advanced speaker to relatively poor speakers just because they all have digital assistants built in. Apples and oranges.

You’re right. Tim Cook is the right person for Apple right now and Steve Jobs probably wouldn’t be.
Yeah if the goal is to milk Steve's ideas while exploiting the loyal user base he built up in the 90's and 2000s, get your stock options, and retire oligarch rich having hollowed out the brand, Tim Cook is the accountant for the job.

Price isn't the issue ...

Apple MUST FIX and re-invent Siri ... in fact like you said SHOOT IT.

Bring us Jarvis not some immatation!

I don't think i can take another stuff up... To me, voice must be *all* not a mixture of voice, but text only on screen, in certain cases..

Give us something useful... if i wanted to read text on Wikipedia, i can do that myself. Convenience aside, of opening a browser.

Let’s not deify Steve Jobs too much. The company is doing so much more than it used to. I don’t see how he’s just milking the ideas when Apple is trying to diversify away from being a company mainly fueled by those ideas.

I have four HomePods, and I love them. I dumped my Echos as the sound was inferior and the lack of real privacy creeped me out. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to Amazon's creepy Echo ghetto (and forget about anything related to Google, they are worse than Amazon when it comes to privacy violations).

And Siri has been great so far, I'm doing everything I did with the Echos. Nor do I have to yell at the HomePod the way I did with the Echos.

So my HomePods were worth every penny. They are fantastic devices.

I suspect sales will pick up as time goes by in a similar fashion to the Apple Watch. Many dismissed that product too, and now it is quite popular.

Anyway, you are missing out on great sound and real privacy if you opt for the Echo over the HomePod.

On the flip side, Homepod will have a long lasting cycle because it lies in a niche market. Audio people who appreciate good sound and don't mind paying for one.

It means I don't have to be afraid of being left out on annual basis like iPhone does. The A8 chip inside Homepod will stay a couple years at least and updates will be coming on regular basis without missing anything.

Just like the MacPro or iPod Touch.
But yeah Homepod could use a little discount.

There is no reason to buy it. Alexa is as low as 30$.. you can hook it up to speakers via an aux port (which HomePod does not have) and say Alexa play ____

Alexa can also order off amazon and do everything Siri can but more accurately and it will even let you know when your packages arrive.

All this is is a glorified Bluetooth speaker.. you could buy 11 echo dots for the price of one HomePod and you can do 5x more on an Echo.

Edit: typo

116 x 30 doesn’t equal 350. 12x30 is 360. And then you have to buy good speakers.
