I wish they don't do this.
I am from Australia and just bought an iMac with the Apple tax included. The catch is the currencies fluctuate all the time. And Apple have known to hold their prices pretty steady. And if the currency changes, Apple just get a little more or less profits.
Despite what everyone says Australia gets good Apple prices. So I'm against the international prices changing too much. The current prices work. it's not hampering sales all that much.
But heck I'm no expert. If Apple think doing this will equal more profits the go for it. But I'll be just as happy if they don't reduce the prices at all too.
Speak for yourself.... I wonder what you'll say when the $au:$us is back down to 50c again? You can bet your bollocks that prices indeed will be sky high and unaffordable. No point saying "it's ok" while we hover around parity. I understand that if you just bought some gear, it would be a difficult thing to swallow to know if you hung back a bit you could have saved some more.
Australia has always been the victim of price gouging. It's happening right now where just about every retailer (on any product - eg clothing) is not passing on the savings because of the high au dollar against the greenback. It's one of the biggest complaints art the moment - much to the dismay of people like Gerry Harvey.
I for one am happy about Apple's fair gesture on this. I'm sure there are many more who are as well. Even if it's only $100, then people will have a bit more for for accessories or whatever - say like an apple TV
