It's amazing how Apple "news" matters to someone. Over the last two years (maybe longer, actually), Target has been on a mission to add more grocery space to most of their non-SuperTarget stores. This usually means less space for something else since most stores are not being remodelled with additional space.

Where is the outrage? Where is the endless discussion about which items will get dropped or reduced? Guess it doesn't matter like Apple "news".

Because Target sells useful and affordable stuff and their customer's aren't drooling fanbois?

Maybe, but the person also has to be willing to part with the money to be of any use to Apple. Just because I have the money to pay for a Mac does not mean I'm also willing to pay list price for non-Apple peripherals I can get on Amazon for 30% less.

But you also assume that all Apple owners are loaded w/ cash rather than struggle to make enough money to buy the computer and worry about the extras later.

They can also gets macs for much cheaper at Amazon due to many areas not having to pay tax on items bought at Amazon. If they know they can get accessories for cheaper on Amazon, they know the computers are cheaper on the wallet on the same site. So, yes more than likely those that buy computers from the apple store have the money to buy the accessories. If you're a thrifty shopper you won't be buying from the Apple store at all.

Not sure if cutting down boxed software in store is a good thing just yet, it might bring back that old myth that there's barely any software for the mac, if the stores only sell macs and nothing to run on them. Last time I looked the mac app store is still full of iOS style basic apps with only one or two features, They need to get some more heavyweight titles in there or people may begin to think a Mac is just a glorified iPad.

I totally agree with this sentiment. People who are used to going to a Best Buy will now once again think there are few software titles for the Mac just like friends of mine always noted when going to a Best Buy, which stocked so few Mac software titles.

Now the hard drives and stuff people generally need help with, that I understand, but the software is a BAD IDEA.

But I can't help but get the feeling that Apple is turning into a sleazy control freak car dealership now, steering people to over-priced upgrades for high profit. This might just come back to haunt them in the long run.

Leave the software and accessories in store; it's easier to see and understand a product when it can be touched and felt. I heard that they're dumping software in store so that people will be forced to purchase on the Mac app store. Bigger margins for Apple.

Well, it's Apple ;) Everything from one source: music, movies, hardware, software, peripherals, etc; it's been sjobs' goal from the beginning, was Apple's downfall in the 90s and will be Apple's downfall again.

Hey, I need stupid people to keep the companies that make the stuff I steal in business.

To be honest it is almost any company's goal to become the one source for everything. Amazon comes to mind here, and Sony wishes they could do the same.

This is not the 90's any more. The Net is making singular shops viable. "Build it and they will come"....

At the right price I have bought movies for my ATV2. Instead of buying a CD even at $10 on sale, I choose the tracks (maybe two or three it seems) that are worth owning since the music industry has given up on making the album worth owning. Bought some books, would have bought more if the publishers were on board.

In the end I can only hope you were joking about the stealing thing... if not you might not have anyone to steal from...

I totally understand why they are doing this, but I like to check out the accessories and read the boxes of software titles when I'm in the store.

Soon the place will be so cool that they won't have front doors on it and there will be no stock inside.

The Apple Store is loosing its soul with these changes. I liked going to the Apple Store to see and buy stuff that I might be forced to have bought online. And given the changes in the return policy the changes are a negative IMO.

Having worked in environments that tried to make the change from hardware to service base... I wish Apple well on that front...

More the reason Amazon with what could be looked at as having a "nexus" in most states right now... needs to collect sales taxes...
