No an external monitor is not required. Full screen external monitor support is an ADDITIONAL feature. So no stage thinghy without an external monitor and no revamped files app?
It works with or without an external monitor. You can have up to 4 windows open and it doubles to 8 when also connected to a monitorSo no stage thinghy without an external monitor and no revamped files app?
It's coming to iPadOS, why wouldn't it be available for non M1 iPads?Aww so no stage view for non M1 iPads… time to upgrade I guess.
You don't get Stage Manager, but that doesn't mean you don't get external display support. So my two year old iPad Pro will *never* get proper external display support? Seething.relax
Depends on the level of work, but yea. Still adds nicer functionality and helps make the iPads more everyday task friendly. This again proves that iPad is for play and laptops are for work.
If you watched the video, it was clearly stated it’s only for M1 iPads. So the air 5 and the 2021 prosIt's coming to iPadOS, why wouldn't it be available for non M1 iPads?
Apple Studio Display.Question. What’s the monitor model ?!? Sure not the Pro Display, so which one is it ?
iPads get upgraded around every two years which means M2 for you. When can I get iPad mini with M1?
("Downgraded" from Pro to Mini - form factor is better, but now I need M1 again)
3rd and 4th generation Pros have significantly slower SSDs, especially write speeds, than the M1 iPad Pros, so that's the likely reason why. By significantly slower benchmarks posted online show the 2018/2020 iPP's write speeds to be a fraction of their read speeds with the M1 iPPs being 5-10x faster for data writes.except that this will not help the iPads that need it the most, like the 3rd and 4th gen pro
Imagine waiting four years for a proper multitasking support (which this still isn't) and then being told I can't even run it on my 2018 ipad pro. Done with this bs. Gonna grab the new air or surface
I’ve got a 2018 iPad Pro and this does not surprise me. The older processor and RAM and SSD would have a hard time supporting this many apps running at one. I’ve backed off on “productivity” uses on my iPad and mainly use my Air for that. The iPad is still my main tool during downtime for browsing, photos, and video and I think I’m fine with that.Imagine waiting four years for a proper multitasking support (which this still isn't) and then being told I can't even run it on my 2018 ipad pro. That to me is the big question. Would be a game changer for using iPad in the office from room to room vs the horrible 4:3 type screen it provides now.Hmm I hope the external display can also be used via AirPlay. I want to use my TV as an external monitor…
Great for pro apps, but the cynical side of me is afraid that this will also lead to developers getting sloppy and memory inefficient. The inclusion of virtual memory swapping is absolutely huge and should not be understated. RAM limitations have been one of the biggest things holding many pro apps from the iPad which are now lifted.
That is due to hardware, so I understand being disappointed but not seething. So my two year old iPad Pro will *never* get proper external display support? Seething.
