It appears that this is the first time Apple has released a M-series chip clocked at a different speed on iPad vs Mac

The M5 on the iPad is clocked at 4.43 [compared to 4.41 on M4]
The M5 on the MacBook is clocked at 4.61.

I guess I am one of the few that feels like my Mac is gimped since it can’t run any of the amazing native apps that exist on iPad. YouTube and a million others. The Mac can only handle these in browser tabs, which makes for a far inferior experience. Imagine doing the same on your iPhone, giving up all the native apps and having to use Safari for everything, like checking your bank accounts. I have a Mac Studio and a MacBook Pro that *never* get used anymore. Also the built in cellular and OLED display make the Mac feel totally outdated in 2025. If you really want macOS on an iPad, Apple already makes that device, it’s called a MacBook Air. Give it a rest.
Hmm MacBook Air, you mean the device I use every time I get home when I ditch my iPhone for it.. ;)

Yes some apps are good on the iPhone but I would not use them on an iPad, they are made for small screen. The web browser is a much more powerful tool.
Btw even on iPhone I watch YouTube in safari which gives me the advantage of blocking all the adverts and being able to use PiP without giving money to Google. Give it a try.

Just pre-ordered a 13 M5 256 to replace my 13 M4 256.

I am prepping myself to be mind-blown.

Seriously, I’m pissed there’s zero battery capacity improvements. Faster charging will help a little, but more capacity would’ve been nice.

Also, really wish memory was 16/24 or something. I actually do run into memory issues pretty regularly with my 8GB M4. I was tempted to go for the M5 1TB for the 16GB memory, but am hoping an extra 4GB over my M4 will reduce/stop safari crashes and game lockups etc. An extra $600 for the 1TB is a very tough sell for only 4GB more memory. Stupid Apple memory tax. Would I notice the extra CPU cores in my gaming?
I’ve noticed my new 12GB iPPM 17 always runs completely full on memory, just like my 8GB iPPM 16 did, so I don’t know if the extra 4GB bump will actually help, or if that extra 4GB is “off-limits” for regular apps and has been allocated only to OS/AI functions.

Upgrade cost was ~$605+tax w/trade-in.

Fun fact - I bought my M4 day 1, 18mo ago and have had 80% max charge enabled the entire time. My M4 battery is currently at 92% max usable capacity with 312 cycles. I think I’m going to allow 100% full charging on my M5 with the intent I’ll upgrade in 18mo to the M6. I’ll be curious to see how the battery fares charging all the way to 100%.
96% with 180 used since February. That is not bad in 234 days. And I’m charging every night to 100%

I’ll stick to my M1 for now, and keep an eye out for an M4 refurb. Still annoying you can’t get a refurb M4 iPad Pro in the UK.

The iPad apps are specifically designed for a larger screen. Amex Platinum covers my YouTube Premium subscription. I too didn’t want to give money to Google until this but once you switch to the native app with no ads there’s no turning back and it carries over to the Apple TVs too, which the browser method does not. That’s just one example of many, with about a half million iPad specific apps. IYKYK, most people just don’t know what they’re missing and haven’t taken the time to discover all that an iPad offers. Even having to go back to Touch ID when I sit down at my Mac / Studio Display…it just sucks, lol.

My day-one 13" M4 (2TB) is at 98% with 195 cycle count. The efficiency is insanely good.

In terms of 100% charging, my day-one M1 12.9" was charged to 100% all the time (don't remember the cycle count). By the time I upgraded to M4 3 years later, its maximum battery capacity was at 85%.

I've never done trade-in with Apple but where I live there are electronic buyback companies that offer a substantial premium compared to all of the original manufacturers (Samsung, Apple, Google .etc.), on the condition that your devices have 80% or more maximum battery capacity remaining.

Didn't have a good experience with this one for my old M1 12.9". The cut-outs for bottom speakers began to loosen and flared out. Was a common issue for both sizes - see this post on reddit for picture:
Not sure how they are now since the M4 iPads have got a lot thinner.
This was sorted in a new revision with my M4, they added more cross sections of rubber at the speaker opening.

I returned mine to Amazon for this very reason, and when I received my new one it had the new grills and to this day has been great!

Speak with Logitech, send them your photos and take it from there
