Apple has a business to run. Can't blame them for not wanting to take part in this mundane, political, masturbation. The current congress is a bunch of nuts.

Absolutely. I would not participate in a dysfunctional gathering of corrupt politicians either. The US is in China’s politics just as much as they are in ours. The difference being we are now a service based economy. The days of being reliant on others for chip production are here to stay. :apple:

Sometimes a congressional hearing is convened because a Senate or House committee doesn’t understand something and needs to ask legitimate questions of an expert, prepared to broaden their understanding of an issue.

Sometimes a congressional hearing is convened so a biased tool with a premeditated agenda can spend time verbally abusing the person in the testimony chair so they can score PR points with their grandstanding at the witness’s expense.

I’m thinking Tim Cook and Apple legal correctly decided not to go with option B.
Here is option C for you.
The truth is the truth and it's hard to go with the courage of your convictions.

I suspect it's closer to what is really happening than easy option B.

Apple can’t answer these questions because then it becomes clear how much China does influence Apple. My only wish for Apple is that they can diversify their manufacturing around the world instead of all in China.

Unfortunately, manufacturing is only a small piece. They want access to the billion plus consumers there and are willing pay a high price to do so.

How many congressional hearings had something "good" come out of them?

Apple would not gain anything by attending or speaking. It could only go sideways.

1976 : Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak , front pockets pulled out proving applicants had nothing to their name but pocket lint , received from Uncle Sam a SBA loan to get their fledging company up and running .

2020 : Tim Cook does a double take while counting his trillion dollars and exclaims , " Uncle Who ? "

About as happy as everything the US is doing or are we just considering OUR OWN points of view here?

I’m happy China isn’t stealing other countries resources using military might.

Lol say what?!? The Chinese military are literally building islands illegally in international waters so they can make claims that they own territory in order to steal resources they don’t have a legitimate claim to.

Hurry! Someone tell the tech companies. That sounds solidly within the purview of responsibility for anyone selling electronic baubles in their country... they should be invited to congressional hearings to explain themselves!!! It’s DEFINITELY their job to step in and do something. Apple & Facebook are considered countries and have their own reps in the United Nations, right?

Bang on. They have been purchasing massive areas of Afirican farmland for years and more recently they have put in The Belt and Road initiative into action. Providing huge loans to impoverished countries knowing that a default will happen and then China swoops in an confiscates the assets (land mostly but mines, resources etc.)

It is unbelievable how blind the West has been to China's ambitions and actions to achieve its goals. The West offshoring millions of jobs so companies could show a better ledger sheet in the short term may not have been the crux of the problem but it was part. Now that Bud and Mary in Topeka are slaves to shopping at Walmart it will be hard to correct these huge mistake.

And yet Steve Jobs is the one who hired Tim Cook to build out Apple's Chinese manufacturing infrastructure to support iPhone and everything else.

Why should a United States legislator be concerned about how China chooses to conduct policies that are internal to China?

Would you be OK with Chinese legislators conducting probes and meddling into United States internal policies, laws, and politics?
For the same reason we meddle in the affairs of Middle Eastern nations: US interests. The only reason we don't send our boys into China is because China isn't as easy to pick on as Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan and so on.

Just to be clear, do you approve of the US meddling into Chinese affairs, laws, policies, politics, etc? And are OK with the Chinese doing the same regarding the US?

More like:
1976- Apple takes loan & pays market interest, no preferential treatment differing from any other startup company. Uncle Sam profits a very teeny amount... leaves them alone.

2020- Apple is now the largest US taxpayer by far, whilst fellow tech company Amazon, led by a man who has more $ than the entire top brass at Apple combined pulls some sneaky bs to pay ZERO income tax. Uncle Sam leaves them alone, but wants Apple to help them “wage war” in other countries.

But it's ok for every other US company to do business with China?

Do you buy anything made in China?

Those where rhetorical questions.

The difference between Apple and other companies doing business in mainland China, and between Apple and people buying things made in mainland China, is that Apple has a SWJ CEO named Tim Cook who is constantly virtue signaling, supporting an ideology of hate known as feminism (feminism is, in part, the hatred of men), preaching about climate change while flying in private jets (thus spending more fuel on one trip than a gas-guzzling SUV does in an entire year), etc.

Other companies may do business with mainland China, which is regrettable, but at least their CEOs are not virtue signaling SJWs like Tim Cook. People who buy things made in mainland China are generally not virtue signaling SJWs like Tim Cook. Therefore, Apple under Tim Cook is the one who is hypocritical.

Your answer completely invalidates mine right? If you want to play one upmanship fine, as on the subject of countries illegitimately using military force, with China the US as your subjects, you'll lose......

Educate yourself.

I've just replied to another poster so won't repeat myself here, but the same applies.

I won't get into your comments regarding feminism but the main thrust of your argument I support: Namely that Apple (Cook) is very vocal about how virtuous it is. Therefore, it is a large target when its actions contradict many of its pronouncements. This is one key reason why people pile on when Apple is in the news for negative reasons, The old "glass houses" situation.

Oh? And which countries resources are we stealing using military might?
