Why would they make an 11 inch, 12 inch, 13 inch and 15 inch macbooks
to compete of course. we all know that size is all that matters. You have to have all the possibilities of exactly what folks want or they won't buy anything.
----------
like the i6 and i6+, a larger 12" ipad (regular, ios) and 12" ipad pro (with usb port(s), pressure sensitivity, stylus, OSX, etc) for about 2-3x the money would make sense.
the iPhone 6 and 6 plus are different sizes so they are a poor example. What you are saying with the iPad thing is making an iPhone 6 plus with basic specs like out of the 5S AND one like the current iPhone 6 plus with all better specs. Unlikely to happen with iPhones or iPads. IF, and I still say it's a highly unlikely if, they made a 12 inch iPad it would be a single model not both.
it's not THAT small a niche market. artists and musicians helped prop apple up when they were the underdog back in the day.
that was 15-20 years ago with computers. Times have changed, a lot. All those artists etc are not the only market and frankly if they still think they are that special to Apple they have other issues they need to deal with. They aren't. Apple made it rather clear when they cut Shake that the Pros were not their only market or even their main one anymore. When the iPad came out they repeated this train of thought by not making it 'for the pros' even though they could have ages ago
not to mention that many pros are using the current iPad sizes just fine. some even hype the small size as a major feature of why they use it
edit: and as far as steve jobs' opinion on styluses:
He never really gave one.
His opinion was about the current state of the 'smart' phone at the time that the iPhone was released. Those phones/pdas required the use of a stylus, if you lost it you were hosed in terms of using the smart features. He didn't want that. But contrary to popular belief he never said a word against using them if you wanted to. He never commanded that iOS be designed to make using one a ****** experience etc. And if someone had shown him that putting a giga level active digitizer on the iPad would be of benefit to the vast majority of users without jacking the price up to outrageous levels, even Steve would have done it (as would Tim if you can make the case)
