lol Apple is the largest company I know of the only seems to be able to work on 1 product at a time

"I don't see. . ." and "I can't imagine. . ." and "I can't think. . ."

Do you people realize what you're saying? That you're blind, unimaginative, and stupid! And you seem to be wearing such as a perverse badge of pride. Unbelievable.

Terrible "mock-up"

Please stop using that terrible image and calling it a "mock-up" of a 12.9" iPad next to a 13" MBA. The screen (not including the bezel) on a 13" MacBook Air measures 13.3", so it should be nearly a half-inch larger than the screen on the "mock-up" of the iPad Pro. Instead, the iPad pro screen is larger than ENTIRE DISPLAY CLAMSHELL of the MacBook Air. That "mock-up" is closer to 15 inches...

Read: people got tired of waiting and those who wanted such a device already bought a Galaxy Tab PRO

iPad Pro is on the way, we even have photos of the aluminum case. Analysts claimed the 6+ wasn't going to launch with the 6. This could be the same deal. It launches, but supplies are constrained. When it's sold out everywhere, people think that everyone is buying it, so they think they need one, too. It's a cunning method of launching less popular products.

More like headless MacBook meets iPad than a Mac mini.

a. The mini has no keyboard. If there is a keyboard involved then it will be like the Mac products that have an integrated keyboard.
I see what you mean. What I was thinking about is a device that can be used by itself (kinda/sorta with VMware) but adding a KB/Mouse would make it more valuable.
b. if there is a Thunderbolt dock and keyboard a headless MacBook would integrate those two into one. Pragmatically TB in the base box would mean Intel x86 in there also. No Apple ARM SoC can drive TB.
I don't know that much about the SoC, but when I was in school, we learned about peripheral chips being compatible (RAM/ROM/ I/O chips, which TB would be part of) to interface to CPU's. That's where my thinking was going on this, and having Intel chips running IOS wouldn't be that hard (says the guy in the chair) with a recompile and debugging.
What could have is system the does fast and broad continuity sync when pulled apart and put back together. Coupled mode runs OS X and detached mode runs iOS.
You have my vote!
However a 12.9 iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard/cover doesn't particularly need OS X or some kind of new OS.

If mimicking the surface 3 Pro then it is more so moving the 'smarts' from the keyboard "half" of MacBook clamshell the the display half . Again, the Mac mini has no integrated display ( and touch I/O input device) so MacBook is a closer 'like' match.

I'd like the real feel of OSX than IOS. IOS feels kind of klunky to me, and I can't shake the feeling that I had when Mrs. Thequik got me the first iPad: It just feels like a giant iPhone. I'd like it to be more than what it is, and my Mac doesn't leave me wanting. (actually, don't tell her that I put that there. I'm lobbying for one of the new Macs that will come out next Thursday).

And oh, by the way Apple - just making the same basic product thinner and/or bigger every once in a while doesn't count as ground breaking innovation.

When it comes to both smartphones and tablets those categories are now mature and on a path of incremental innovation. No matter who makes them.
Compared to, say, laptops, the 'train' is still going pretty fast though.

Apple is partly to blame for (y)our disappointment, though. Their rhetoric, with a constant use of words like 'Groundbreaking', 'Revolution' 'Biggest leap forward' etc. about almost everything does far from always match reality.

I just don't get why anyone would need a 13" iPad.
...
Many of the great iPad apps fit perfectly at 10 inches, but at freaking 13" diagonally, they'll just be way too big and don't offer extra productivity over

I have surface pro 3 and the xtra size is a key feature. I use it for sketch book pro, manga studio, ableton live and reason.

The air @ 10 inches is fine because it has such limited capabilities. But there is definately a niche for 13" tablets

----------

EXACTLY. I just bought a Surface Pro 3, but only because I got tired of waiting for Apple to put out an iPad I could use as a professional art tool. If they introduced something with a digitizer comparable to Wacom, and it was capable of running a full version of Photoshop, I'd sell my Surface tomorrow.

I thought i would feel that way--but i have evolved into a big surface supporter. Yes, the keyboard sucks--but i didnt buy it. I use it mostly as a tablet and it is awesome

Apple and its suppliers are delaying plans to mass produce the larger 12.9-inch iPad in order to deal with strong demand for the iPhone 6 Plus

And after THAT'S done, they're going to delay the TV so they can deal with the demand for the giant iPad...

I don't really care either way but this 'rumor' sounds fishy. The iPad Pro is months away and they use separate components.

Some people never learn!

Facepalm!

Will Apple zealots ever learn?

Despite them all shouting down anyone who wanted a large screen phone with, essentially, the argument “I don’t want one, so Apple won’t make one” they’re at it again over the iPad 12.9”

Here's a few quotes from the first few pages of this thread - that could easily be taken from old threads about rumoured large screen iPhones, the original iPads and iPhones, iPods with video, flash based iPods etc etc ec

• I simply don't believe this product exists.
• Whenever they do start selling this giant iPad, it - along with the Apple watch - will be two of the most underwhelming products in Apples lineup in terms of sales.
• I just don't get why anyone would need a 13" iPad
• But the problem with this idea is that it only caters to a small niche of market.
• I really can't see apple trying to make a that iPad pro.
• Honestly, I'll believe this when I see this
• I don't see a big enough market to justify a "big iPad" on it's own.
• I can't see using that behemoth
• a larger phone made sense. A larger ipad does not. That would be totally impractical
• I haven't seen any indication that there is significant interest in a larger iPad
• If Apple does release such a product, I doubt it will sell well.

The stupid irony is they said all the same things about the iPhone 6 Plus - the very device that’s demand is suggested as causing a delay of the 12.9” iPad.

The two that sum it up most are "That would be totally impractical" and "I doubt it will sell well"

How many feet have you people got to keep putting in your mouths?!

Microsoft is not an alternative.

Indeed, it is the default. Do you see what I did there?

I love rumoured delays on products that are only rumoured in the first place, as much as the next guy, but this still seems far-fetched even in concept. The phone thing was a long overdue catchup that people suddenly flocked around despite most having supported Apple's predilection for the tiny for years. The same for the iPad would not be catching it up to anyone or anything. It is not in the market of the Surface Pro 3, and it has nothing to worry about from other tablets, surely. Mind you, that mockup is ugly enough to suit today's iOS, so one shouldn't count it out. But a delay just before an announcement that almost certainly wasn't planned anyway, that's just a bit convenient and nit exactly rumour-worthy.
