You know one thing that is absolutely laughable about how bad Apple is, is the fact that Elon Musk started xAI just a couple years ago and was way behind all the major AI companies obviously, but managed to now catch up to virtually all of them and launched Grok 3 (terrible name but still), and it is right there amongst the best.

Meanwhile Apple, one of the biggest companies on the planet with ungodly piles of cash, has watched the AI train steaming by them and STILL didn’t bother to actually go all-out. Tim’s legacy will now be the guy who missed AI and led the company to disaster. The only thing Apple can do now is to invest massively in one of the other AI and get a deal to let them use it. I mean integration way beyond an old model of ChatGPT.

Here’s what’s going to happen to kill Apple:

OpenAI decides to release a phone and a headband with sensors and cameras, earbuds with sensors and cameras, or both. They then have AGI by 2027 and all their devices are talking to you and understanding you like another human would, except this human is a genius in all fields of study and they can see what you see via the headband or earbuds. I’d start with a headband because glasses with displays will take longer. I’d put a laser on the headband so the AI can point directly to things in your vision to guide you on exactly what to do.

OpenAI should also do a home speaker and integrate with Matter so they can start using smart home devices.

Everybody needs to chill and get informed. AI as a whole is a giant venture capital Ponzi scheme. No one, and I mean NO…ONE…is making money on AI with the exception of Nvidia and Wall Street. This is the classic FOMO ( Fear Of Missing Out ) that drives Wall Street derived bubbles. The burn rate of VC and investor capital in AI is STUNNING! Like 2-1 to 3-1 loss rates. And now that the world has had a look at OpenAI’s 4.o and DeepSeek’s R1 for a long enough time more and more people are coming to the conclusion that it’s all digital slop and truth be told there is not a valid, sustainable profit case to be made to not only go forward with but to make up for the hundreds of billions poured into this inferno. This is the Dot Com bubble of the year 2000 version 2.0. And we’re just now seeing signs that it’s beginning to dawn on people like Microsoft making plans to back off hyperscale rollouts, Nvidia’s sales plateauing, OpenAI delaying ChatGPT 5.0 by only rolling out 4.5, Xai’s Grok only barely surpassing ChatGPT and DeepSeek R1, and now Apple’s extended delay of Siri 2.0. The cracks in the AI facade are beginning to manifest. And it will only get worse from here. My take on Apple’s delay is that they’re finding it difficult to engineer a competent ChatGPT 4.o or better AI on device at relatively low parameters ( 8 billion or less ) and at low power. Perhaps Apple AI engineers are just now pouring over all the data from DeepSeek now that they have open sourced everything and some universities have recreated DeepSeek R1’s capabilities at 670 billion parameters down to just 7 billion and for only $30 dollars instead of billions of dollars. Any way you want to look at it, Apple’s delay was inevitable. There is no profit case for AI…none. And it introduces severe energy costs, security risks and in some cases demonstrably bad and even dangerous output. These are all anathema to Apple. Hence the delay of Siri 2.0

I feel like it’s unfair to compare this upcoming Siri to openAI’s offerings, since presumably llm Siri will be running on device.
I don’t think so, because Apple is heavily investing in AI servers and introducing Private Cloud Compute, existing Siri already is remote for most functions, and at the current state of tech there is no chance of reasoning models running locally on mobile hardware. Only simple GenAI can, like what we’ve already seen.

The fact that you used no paragraph breaks in that is funny as hell.

AI will soon transform the world beyond your wildest little dreams, of which you have none of course because you have zero vision for its capabilities to do so.

Siri is delayed because Apple is garbage and has no capabilities with AI. They are being passed horrifically and if OpenAI makes hardware they’re done.

Also the energy costs of AI are of ZERO consequence. We need to use ALL the energy necessary for AI because AI will be the only thing that can stop climate change. Humans cannot do it alone in time. AGI and ASI will build out fusion plants astronomically faster. They’ll solve innumerable climate issues clear across the board.

These are things that will be happening. Oh, by the way, AI will cure all human diseases within 15 years. Enjoy. And by the way, the very reason you know AI is the real deal is specifically because the cheaters in finance and on Wall Street are pouring literally hundreds of billions into it. Including the US government. Guess what buddy—these people do their due diligence.

OpenAI will probably not exist as a standalone company by the end of the decade. They have not made 1 red penny in profit in their history. Not…one…penny. They are the Queen of all Wall Street welfare Queens. That’s the only way they exist. That and having Microsoft own a big chuck of them. And that’s probably who will buy them out in the end when the inevitable AI bubble pops. Microsoft probably wanted to do it before their initial investment in OpenAI but at that time the Wall Street hallucinatory valuation assigned to OpenAI was too insane even for Microsoft. Microsoft’s CEO just said in an interview that AI has yet to find a killer app like email or Excel. And he’s right….because there is none. Even Microsoft who owns a portion of OpenAI is expressing doubts about the efficacy and profit making potential of AI. And your fever dream about OpenAI coming out with a phone or other AI based hardware….please. I would direct you to Humane’s AI Pin website to see what would happen to an OpenAI phone. That went from being the iPhone killer to now it being relegated to the next generation of HP’s printers’ on-screen interface.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman last year reported that Apple was planning a "more conversational" version of Siri for iOS 19.4, powered by "more advanced large language models." However, in his Power On newsletter today, he said that development of this more ChatGPT-like Siri is now running behind schedule within the company.

iOS-19-Roundup-Feature.jpg

Gurman said Apple is no longer planning to unveil the more conversational Siri at WWDC 2025 in June this year, and it appears that the feature is no longer on track to launch as part of iOS 19.4 in March or April next year. Instead, he said that some Apple software engineers believe that the Siri overhaul will not launch until at least iOS 20.

This is yet another sign that Apple remains behind OpenAI in the generative AI space.

Gurman still expects iOS 19 to include some changes to Siri's underlying architecture that will allow it to handle more advanced queries.

In the meantime, iOS 18.2 added ChatGPT integration to Siri, and Google Gemini integration should follow in a later software update. And with iOS 18.5, which should be released in May, Siri is expected to gain on-screen awareness, understanding of personal context, and deeper per-app controls. Those features were initially expected to arrive with iOS 18.4, which further underscores Apple's internal delays in this area.

Could we please stop reenforcing some analysts opinion as a fact? AFAIK Apple hasn’t made any announcements yet as to what exactly is planned to roll out with which release of iOS. Gurman himself is leaking unconfirmed rumors, just to roll them back later.

So, Apple hasn’t "delayed" anything, because they haven’t announced anything beyond intentions. The headline is highly misleading.

Lmfao buddy please go research companies and investment.

Go search how much Amazon was losing per year before they made a single cent in profit.

Amazon lost literally billions per year before becoming profitable. It’s called infrastructure build out.

A more ChatGPT-like Siri? Hahaha! At this point, they need to put Siri out of her misery, give her a dignified funeral, and maybe even a touching eulogy “She tried her best… but being born deaf didn’t help.” Then, rise from the ashes with a next-level AI assistant, fresh name, fresh personality. How about Timothy? Sounds reliable. Timothy wouldn’t ignore half your requests or misinterpret set a reminder as play Despacito. Apple needs fresh leadership. “Timothy AI” could become Tim’s legacy. Lol.
Yeah, it’s time to put Siri to sleep. Do it Tim!

The issue I have is that Apple is selling new devices touting their ability to perform certain advanced functionality within a defined time period - “coming in Spring”, etc. When they miss these dates, it is tantamount to false advertising. I expect my iPhone 16 Pro Max to be able to perform the full functions advertised as promised, and especially before the next new device and OS cycle begins. Otherwise, the reason for me getting the new device was negated, or more simply put, I didn’t get what I paid for.

Apple is clearly doing this to stay relevant and hook in users, but these types of delays (and “vaporware” functionality) will only erode customer trust. I’m getting to the point where I will not buy a new device unless all advertised functionality is available.

Unfortunately, Apple is not the only company doing this. And sometimes those companies even wind up charging extra for features that consumers expect to be included in their initial purchase, move said functionality to a newly created higher subscription tier, or jack the price up ridiculously after the initial subscription period. We have glimpses of Apple falling into this pattern with Apple One, iCloud+, and the new Invites app.

I’ve also expressed my thoughts in other threads regarding Apple selling the iPhone 14s and 15-non pros without enough memory to run Apple Intelligence. They knew it was coming, and providing additional memory in these devices (as customers had been requesting, even before AI was announced) was completely feasible. Instead, they shortchanged these devices, creating an almost universal need for customers to upgrade their hardware to utilize what is becoming basic functionality of the modern operating system. I can’t see it as anything other than a money grab at a time when consumers were waiting longer (2-3+ years) to upgrade devices.

But they still couldn’t get that right, as nefarious as it is, since, again, the touted features of the new phones/os are still not available 6 months after release, and are still at least 2-3 months away, IF they are even released as part of iOS 18, at all.

New iPhone 17 to handle non existent AI features!.
Apple is a sitting duck now and can’t recover. iPhone iterations are pointless since a few years ago. Apple is the least innovative company and does not deserve so much of our money. Go buy a Chinese phone. Innovation and working features are there.
I can’t even Edith a miss typed number in the dial pad in iPhone nor set and alarm based in Spotify. Spending my money on a new/same iPhone is no longer justifiable.

Who’s running the company now that Cook has retired?

Apple used to focus on innovation and utility. Recently, a lot of its stuff is either mundane, useless, obsolete, dysfunctional, irrelevant or all of the above.

That’s absolutely hilarious. ChatGPT Advanced Voice is so far beyond anything Siri ever has been or ever will become.

It honestly makes Siri seem like it’s the exact same thing it has been since it launched in 2011 which is basically what Siri is. Siri is almost entirely useless. The only things you can ask are extremely simplistic tasks and hope it hears you right. ‘What’s the temperature’ ‘set a timer for X’ ‘do I have any messages?’ ‘Send a message to Y’ which it then misunderstands you 85% of the time.

This report is even MORE comical because by the time iOS 20 releases in Fall 2026, OpenAI’s Advanced Voice mode will be near-human level entirely, and it’s knowledge will be so vastly beyond Siri’s it’s incredible. It already is so vastly beyond Siri it’s incredible, and it will only get farther and farther ahead. Moreover, all the major AI companies will also be miles and miles ahead of anything Siri will ever become. xAI’s voice mode in Grok 3 is very good now too. Anthropic will be doing more with voice too and Amazon is using Anthropic for their new Alexa which is launching within the next several months. The new Alexa with use of Claude will make Siri utterly pathetic in terms of actionable requests too, because while OpenAI’s voice mode won’t be passed, the new Alexa using Claude will be extremely close and right on par with it, and with Alexa with all the devices integration, Alexa will be able to take tons of actions for the user.
Agree. iOS 20 is too little, too late. Apple may as well just make a licensing deal with Anthropic, Google, etc.. and integrate their technology.

Wow there’s a lot going on here that’s just totally wrong or wholly unsupported conjecture.

First, it’s pretty clear Apple didn’t “kn[o]w it was coming.” That’s kinda the whole issue here. Apple was caught flat-footed and had to radically change course in response to the late 2022 release of ChatGPT. It’s widely known that the iPhone is planned 2-3 years in advance, and the RAM is integrated into the chip that’s also planned 2-3 years in advance, so Apple isn’t able to just shove more RAM into its devices on a whim. This is patently obvious when you consider the iPhone 15 line—Apple was lucky that the 15s Pro had 8GB, it wasn’t planned that way.

Second, there’s no “need,” let alone a “universal” one, to upgrade one’s device for AI. That much is clear in the lackluster sales of the iPhones 16—most people don’t care about AI at all (and many people actively hate it), even with Apple’s formidable marketing. And many of iOS 18s new features don’t actually require upgraded hardware.

Finally, claiming gen AI is a “basic functionality of the modern operating system” is ludicrous. The fact is, despite absolutely hysterical industry hype, gen AI is just not very useful, particularly beyond the ChatGPT model. Everyone is slapping half-baked features into their OSes, sure, but 99% are obvious gimmicks and consumer uptake is poor.

I’m all for hating on Big Tech, particularly after its actions in the last 6 months, but try to be a bit more realistic and factual in your criticism.
