And adding a cable extension to a set of headphones which also have a longer than normal cable isn't exactly user friendly...

That's why I reccomend the Shure headphones, which come in 2 parts already, one short to te headphone, one long to the MP3/iPhone etc. So you connect the adapter to the iPhone, and the shorter headphone cable to the adapter ;)

Its not a matter of they just decide that they should allow iphone to support it its a hardware issue.

But who makes the hardware decisions??? We are not talking about a third party peripheral here!

If the information that we are recieving from Apple regarding these unreleased headphones is correct then they have made a stinker of a design decision.

For Apple to release a new pair of high end headphones including an inbuilt mic and for this mic to not work with the one Apple device that needs it most is simply shocking. I can't believe that many 3G owners would shell out for these knowing that the functionality is crippled.

I just hope that we have been misinformed. Maybe Apple is trying to remedy the situation which could explain why they are yet to be released so long after the initial announcment.

I really hope your right!
They might be busy making them compatible with the iPhone 3G

Only the volume control will not work on the iphone. The audio pass, play/pause button, and mic should work just fine.

They are basically the :apple:iphone headsets, but with better buds and volume controls.

For what it's worth to the other posters, this is exactly what our local apple rep told me as well. A lot of people on this and other threads seem to be getting worked up over a pair of headphones which, one can only surmise at this point at to its compatibility. With so many options out there on the market, I wouldn't sweat it if it turns out that there are some compatibility problems with the iPhone. I picked a pair from Ultimate Ears last month and the sound is fantastic and the people I speak to think the mic is crystal clear.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

it's really quite simple. If the iPod touch is the only device that will be deluxe compatible then it must mean that audio terminals in other ear phones wont align and therefore wont work. Problem is that my standard in ear apple earphones work with the new iPod touch.. Obviously the contacts are lined up for audio. The microphone should also be line up for the iPhone but I could be wrong. The volume controls will not because there is not enough terminals in the iPhone since there is only 4 on the iPhone. So my guess is that the apple rep said no due to lack of a better more informed answer or simply looked on the site and didn't see compatible with iPhone on it. I assure you that audio will work, mic should work, volume will not. As for me I will be removing the earpieces and installing them on a standard iPhone click button and mic cable

Has anybody heard abnything new on this subject?

I need some new in ear headphones for my iPhone and don't want to get any until I know how good these ones are...

Please be patience guys. I have had it on good authority that the headphone will be delivered to my house 25th December.

Seems like Apple is taking their time with these earphones; working out the kinks, maybe tweaking compatibility, and generally making sure everything works before they release them.

God forbid they should do that with their iPods, iPhones, computers, and OSes.

Good grief.

I really feel that the oversight of iPhone compatibility has been a stick in the eye of the group in Apple responsible for bring this to market. My guess is that they made some last minute improvements to correct this. Why limit the addressable market at the exclusion of iPhone users? It simply doesn't add up.

I just hope these babies fit in my budcase!

Darn it Apple is taking forever! Well IMO Apple is going to release this with 2.2 firmware cause I'm sure it will have the compability to work iPhone thru software or something kinda like a driver. I don't care as long as it work, but I really hate the regular headphones I need this ones. Hurry Apple!

I'm not upset that Apple has missed the deadline of the release. I'm upset that Apple has provided no explanation as to what is going on with the damn things.

I emailed Stevey J but he doesn't love me.

then Apple must constantly upset you, because that's the way they handle pretty much everything.
