I like the design. It looks like it would match the nike tennis shoes. I'm not a fan of the green ones but the gray and white combos are pretty nice. I think from an athletic standpoint they likely breathe a bit better than the current sport bands.

If I was looking for a fitness tracker for all my fitnessing, than I might go with this. I'm just a school teacher that tries to get a little better every day.

You mean the quart right before the new AW and didn't the new Pebbles just come out. This market will not be like the cell phone market, it will be more like the tablet market with people buying a new one every 3-5 years.

It isn't going to be like the tablet market either. iPads never had that big of drop percentage and it took 4 years for iPads to experience their first year over year drop for a quarter. The watch did it the first year over year quarter with a 70% drop and with much lower volume to drop from.

Honestly, the Nike band is one of the reason why I didn't wait. Imagine you running under the hot sun with your new Nike Apple Watch, and you had a new tan. On your wrist, however, you found something interesting" Part where it's tanned, part where it's not tanned. Guess how that happened?

Funny thing about imagination. It can come up with stuff that never actually happens and cause you to make misinformed decisions.

I've worn Garmin perforated watch bands for years of 4-5 days a week lunchtime runs. Tons of other people do the same. NEVER have I experienced or heard of anyone having that problem.

get a garmin
Garmin software quality has gone into the cr@pper in recent years. Premium price tags for products that half work. I'm speaking as an owner of their running watches for several years.

Please go ahead and hole punch a Sports band. Do report back on the result!

That would look absolutely terrible. But someone will likely try this and post a thread on why it "Should have worked" and then they blame Apple the poor quality band for not with-standing the holes.

I've been considering trying an Apple Watch and was interested in the Nike variant for the perforated band. If it's like the others I've had it's more comfortable on a long sweaty run. (only the less ugly black/gray model though)

If replacement bands aren't going to be available, that's an issue for me. Sure, it may not wear out in the lifetime of the watch, but I don't want to risk being screwed if it does.

anyone have an order status beyond "preparing for shipment" yet? waiting for my 42mm black/gray...

I guess airpods will also come out the 28th. Certainly sounds like "late-October" to me. Can't get any later

Or just delayed. Back in 2008 they came out with earphones with a remote and mic and the in ear headphones with separate woofer and tweeter for each ear. Promised in October, shipped in mid December.

it's functional. nowhere pretty like watch os. And honestly that's what matters the most.

Oh ok. Great idea. Further more, Garmins software is garbage. But hey, I'm sure you convinced every forum member to buy a Garmin reading an Apple Watch thread.

what is your purpose? for notifications? sure garmin's notifications are garbage.

to run? to bike ? to swim? to hike? garmin has you beat so bad it's not even funny.

Try competing in a ironman event with an apple watch. lol everyone will laugh at you. i will laugh until i cry.

Yeah, mostly. Except for when they don't. This isn't the venue for a Garmin rant, so I'd just direct folks to the Garmin forums for a good read.

More works than doesn't which is why I'm still wearing a Garmin, but I'm ready to move on.

BTW, your Ironman reference is specious. Apple/Nike aren't aiming for that segment with this model. Can't say what they'll do in the future, but Apple hasn't typically gone much for the fringe use cases.

of course not but if your going to run a marathon with GPS and youre not a very fast runner there is a good chance that the apple watch will die on you.
What is the battery life WITH a phone associated with it? I know they say ~5hrs without a phone, but what is it with a phone nearby as you'd typically expect a 4hr+ marathoner to carry in a Spibelt or armband?

So it's not the best sports watch by any means.
Who's been claiming it is?

That sucks, wife ordered one of the watches. But wants another of the bands...don't need two watches. Oh well, maybe down the road Apple/Nike will change this.

Why are you listing your ideations on the Garmin Watch to me? I could care less. I was strictly commenting on Garmins garbage software. I made no comments in comparison on either Watch in terms of fitness. I'm sure Garmin is well versed in this catergory.

And for future reference, it's really unnecessary to make childish comments on how you or others will "Laugh" at someone if they choose to wear an Apple Watch at an Ironman Event. That's not for you to decide what someone chooses to use for a fitness device at an Ironman Event and sounds ridiculous.

I am sure that eventually Nike will offer replacement bands. But they're not likely to be offered by Apple until Nike initiates.

There are knockoffs that are out there today, however, the material they are made from is not the same as the official Nike band.

Still, if Nike were to offer bands would you really want to pay the full retail price they are likely to ask for them?

It has happened before with bracelets, gloves that doesn't cover the entire hand (e.g. fingers exposed). What makes you think it won't happen?

What makes me think it won't happen with the holes in the band? Three things.

#1 - Physics. Specifically: angle of incidence relative to the size of the holes and thickness of the band. The skin under the holes only gets direct sunlight at certain angles and arm position. Sure, it might it happen if you remained completely still and had your arm at the proper angle, but if that happens in an outdoor workout you're doing it wrong.

#2 - Watch Placement. Most people wearing a watch during workouts tend to wear it so they can see it. The watch itself will predominantly be facing the sky, with only a small portion of the band being exposed to direct sunlight, and that part will be at an oblique angle. See #1.

#3 - Experience. For years, I've worn sports watches with a similarly perforated bands during outdoor lunchtime runs in full sunlight. I have never experienced the first hint of any suntan dots. Nothing about the new Nike band suggests it would behave any differently.

Your turn.

Not happily. Yet if I needed a replacement band, it'd be less painful than buying a new watch.

you attacked garmin. I'm saying before you spew any more misinformation the garmin UI while not "pretty" is functional.

regarding ironman you'd never catch an apple watch because it's the wrong tool.

Have you seen the new garmin UI found on the vivoactive or the 735xt? it's easy. It gets you right to your sport. So no the Garmin UI is not garbage.

You realize he said "software" not "UI", right? That encompasses the whole experience. Not just the UI of the most recent watches.

I believe the 735 adopts the UI the 235 has had. It's pretty usable, but rather a pain in the azz to get to some stuff. Need to set or change an alarm on a 235? Press Up and hold, then Down, Enter, Down, Enter, Down as needed to get to whichever alarm or to Add New, then Enter+Enter to turn it on or off, or Down+Enter to change the time, using Up/Down on hour, Enter, Up/Down on Minutes, Enter, Up/Down on AM vs PM, Enter, then Enter to confirm (checkmark). Follow with Back, Back, Back, Back to return to the watch face.

Yep. Great UI.

Feel free to like Garmin all you want. Their top end watches do get the job done for sports, though you have to ignore various annoyances and bugs. Just don't claim the UI is anything more than "less bad" than prior watches.

Oh look, my 235's lost it's connection and I need to restart the garmin connect app on my phone for the third time today.
