You realize he said "software" not "UI", right? That encompasses the whole experience. Not just the UI of the most recent watches.

I believe the 735 adopts the UI the 235 has had. It's pretty usable, but rather a pain in the azz to get to some stuff. Need to set or change an alarm on a 235? Press Up and hold, then Down, Enter, Down, Enter, Down as needed to get to whichever alarm or to Add New, then Enter+Enter to turn it on or off, or Down+Enter to change the time, using Up/Down on hour, Enter, Up/Down on Minutes, Enter, Up/Down on AM vs PM, Enter, then Enter to confirm (checkmark). Follow with Back, Back, Back, Back to return to the watch face.

Yep. Great UI.

Feel free to like Garmin all you want. Their top end watches do get the job done for sports, though you have to ignore various annoyances and bugs. Just don't claim the UI is anything more than "less bad" than prior watches.

Oh look, my 235's lost it's connection and I need to restart the garmin connect app on my phone for the third time today.

Im not saying it's a great UI. The point is it just works for sports once you know how to navigate the clunky UI.

Have you tried UP UP Down Down Left Right BA start?

Have you seen the new garmin UI found on the vivoactive or the 735xt? it's easy. It gets you right to your sport. So no the Garmin UI is not garbage.

I haven't tested the 735XT. So I can contest to the software. The previous Garmins I tested were atrocious with glitches. The Apple Watch serves my purposes and that's all that matters.

Well that doesn't say much when there is over a 70% drop in apple watch sales.
Tough to draw any conclusions from initial sales of a second generation device. I can see where a lot of 1st gen owners wouldn't have reason to upgrade to 2nd gen, and I suspect many/most of the people initially interested in an Apple Watch had bought a 1st gen device. Some quantity of people are / were interested but something held them back (for me, lack of internal GPS) but are now buying. I'm thinking about trying one.

Time will tell whether it's a sustainable product. Apple's iPhones didn't storm the market in their first generation or two, and Blackberry bet wrong. Apple's Newton didn't storm the market, and ended up on the shelves of history. We shall see.

thinking about it too but it's not quite a compelling product yet. Yes we wont know for a few more years if Apple decides to phase out the apple watch. Look at the ipad . IT's peaked and will only continue to drop in sales.

Well that doesn't say much that you don't like to read, because I clearly stated the Apple Watch serves MY purpose and that's all that matters.

This thread isn't just about you. stop being so selfish.

Yep. If it was compelling for me I'd have one. If I buy one it'll be more out of curiosity.

Better yet, look at the iPod. I still regularly use my nano; I carry it while running to drive my bluetooth headphones since I prefer to leave my phone behind. If I needed to replace it, I could still buy one.

I also actually use an iPad mini retina; haven't been compelled to upgrade since what have works.

Heck I wasn't going to buy an iphone7 except for AT&T basically giving me $650 towards it with their Next deal by trading in my 6. What I had was working well enough.

Generally, as products mature the upgrade cycle lengthens. Phones, DSLRs, watches, etc. all seem to exhibit the behavior.

No. But my opinion is just that. An opinion, on an opinionated website with opinionated people. If you don't like it, don't comment. Trying to control the thread and calling some selfish is childish and sulky. I think this discussion has proven its agenda. But I'm confident you will comment with another frivolous post, as the last four of yours have been.

right what we are saying is all opinions. You say the apple watch works for you and i say the garmin 735xt works for me and does circles around the apple watch in terms of fitness.

so now what?

Don't talk to me about Garmin, bought the VivoFit 6 months ago and the screen slowly died, crap software, (but really like the looks of the Fenix) then even ventured to the new Samsung fitness band, forgot its name, and it was OK, and came close to the Nixon Mission as it looks like my G-Shock...and you know what? My original stainless apple watch just works as it always has and I'm back on that until the Nike Apple Watch arrives in a few days. Tracks my run (I'm not running triathlons, just a few kilometers between gym workouts), tracks my bike rides using Strava which i actually prefer, has tons of apps, and now is waterproof, (my main reason to get it) resistant, sorry. And I love the two tone hi vis band and can still use my current bands when I want. My buddy who runs marathons (and swears by his Garmin) is also on board and will see how it goes in the coming weeks on long distance runs. Until these new variants are out in the wild and real runners start using them the verdict has yet to be written. From a casual weekend warrior, this is going to hit the sweet spot, more serious athletes, lets wait and see....

for more serious athletes it's pretty much garmin, suunto, polar, and tomtom.
