It is becoming more and more common especially on laptops now. Other tablets have had it for awhile as well.
Mini LED cost Less.

here is a current list. They seem to have a 27" one listed :}/
Thanks for the list... the LG 32" looks nice.. but 3500€ is quite a sum.. I think I will stick with IPS until it gets more affordable. I don't really need OLED. But I want it :D

I am a weak person, I could not resist and bought the 12.9 1TB . Here is the Geekbench compared to the older 2018 iPad 12.9 1TB. The new Keyboard is great esp. the trackpad makes it easier to write. The pencil is no different - but I bought it new. I connected it to the Pro Display XDR. It worked - kind of, it doubled the display but it did not use all of the XDR‘s screen.View attachment 1779374
Nice, exactly what I wanted to see!!! Glad to see the difference from this one and the 2020 iPad Pro is not that much, not for me to notice anyways, I just use this for kindle, web, photos and that’s about it!

iPad Pro needs a pro OS and pro apps. I got my $1900 iPad Pro yesterday (12.9 in, 1 TB), I love it, but even web browsing is handicapped by iOS, the website I use the most for work relies a lot on horizontal scrolling and the iPad simply cannot handle it, I need to go to the PC for that.

Also, the fact that you need a PC to transfer your music library is infuriating , come on Apple.
You can use Roon or Plex and stream your library. Thats what i would do.

I don't get why Apple can't give us an "allow more data" *period* switch, rather than just on 5G.

I was able to watch 4K HDR content on my Apple TV, tethered to my LTE-only (no 5G) iPhone 11 Pro Max when Comcast was down, and it streamed perfectly with no issues. You don't need 5G for this stuff.

It's irritating that Apple is using "Allow the use of more data" as a carrot to try to get people to upgrade to 5G devices, when existing LTE devices can use that additional data without issue. If we want to blow through our data plan watching "For All Mankind" on LTE, it should be our right!

can confirm the slight blur and color change is very noticeable especially when the brightness is very low with dark content being displayed. honestly it does bring does bring down the experience but I feel it’s better than what’s on the previous models. Baby steps 🤷🏽‍♂️
I was watching a film yesterday and there was a glow effect around the text during the end credits. There was also a scene in the dark where this halo effect was rather jarring. Is that what you’ve experienced too?

They've got one dimming zone covering roughly every 46x49 block of pixels, great for dynamic moving picture where persistance of vision covers for it but a nightmare for high contrast static text and graphics where bloom can run rampant... and part of the reason why professionals DON'T use Apple's XDR monitor for production critical work.
I had a monitor for $100 dollars that wasn't a nightmare and it worked with both text and graphics with my production critical work. The Apple XDR must be really bad.

I tried taking a picture of the blooming on my iPad, but it’s hard to capture on my phone. It’s definitely not as great as oled, but in most cases it’s not a problem. Regardless of screen brightness, it’s not noticeable unless I’m using it in a pitch black environment. And even then it’s only present around static highlights surrounded by black. I’d say that you’d have to be unreasonably picky for it to be a serious issue.

All that potential but only one port and an OS that still gimped, even with its "Files" app.
For Christ’s sake just give us dual boot on iPad already. Using my new iPad Pro with magic keyboard is like reaching for a touch screen Mac but being just out of reach of it. Some commands work (Cmd+Tab brings up a distinctly macOS app switcher) but some don’t (Cmd+Q does nothing).

This iPad with the magic keyboard but running macOS would be game-changing.

edit: LOL @ the “disagree”. What possible downside could there be to allowing dual boot? You can keep your dumbed-down idiot-OS and us profesionales will use macOS. It’s really not that difficult to understand.

OLED is nice.

But you know what is nicer?

5K resolution on a 27" monitor.

C'mon monitor manufacturers!
Actually.. I'm fine with 4K on 32". That's enough for me. I cannot see the pixels. and more pixels also mean more load on the systems.

High resolution has diminishing returns at some point. What I'm now looking for is contrast and color. OLED is king when it comes to contrast. Those OLED HDR TVs look so nice.

I was wondering why my eyes do not feel any distress playing with the new 12.9.
So I found out the 120 Hz refresh rate of the new display and its sharpness are much better than I thought.

I will go on and finally delete the 2018 1TB 12.9 - it is a good machine and can do all what i want to do with it - but the new one is better and much more comfortable for my eyes.

Clearly from the blooming users are reporting, it’s not.

OLED is still king IMO.

As someone who has had a local dimming ASUS display ($2,500) for three years now, no matter how many zones you add, it’ll have some degree of blooming and will be noticeable in dark areas on the display.

Maybe microLED will be able to change that.
Micro LED SHOULD change that. It provides pixel level dimming. But from what I know micro LED is not going to available in consumer products anytime soon.

I don’t understand, it streamed perfectly with no issues WITHOUT a UI switch, but you want one there anyway?

There is no reason an iPad should be more money than a MacBook air at this point. In fact it should be much cheaper as it's less capable (no keyboard, one port and less base storage).
Most iPads ARE less money than a MacBook Air. As long as there are folks with money and, this is essential, that want to SPEND that money, there will always be things that cost more than other things.

This display along with touch and 5G will soon be on all MacBook Pro and iMacs.
How much you wanna make a bet.
Each new version of macOS looks like and adopts features of iPadOS.

The pictures make the bloom look worse than it is in-person. The display is quite good and seems brighter than OLED. Are the blacks as good as OLED? No, but I’d say they’re 90% as good. You don’t notice the bloom 99% of the time. It’s mainly when you finish a YouTube video on a black screen and the UI elements pop up. I don’t care because side by side with my 2018 12.9”, it looks massively better.

I agree with people here that say the iPad Pro should have two ports. They should just put one symmetrically on both sides. Would make it easier to move files between SD cards and drives. I’m hoping with more RAM file transfers will be a smoother process with less failures. I haven’t tested it in a long time because it corrupted several SD cards that I had to repair with disk utility on my Mac. Fortunately I was just using test RAW files that I had already backed up. Although sometimes I wondered if it was my Hyper multiport dongle/dock failing. I recently bought an Anker one I need to test.
