A co-worker was also having trouble adding SL to his cart. When he clicked the online link it sent him to a page asking for his purchase location and serial number and refused to add anything to the cart. I managed to come up with a work around though (I hope...). Unfortunately it requires that you know someone who qualifies for the program and is not having the issue.
1. Get your friend/co-worker/lover to log in and go to the uptodate page and have them add SL to the cart. This should work even if they've already completed the process once.
2. Click on checkout. It should ask you to authenticate yourself again. This time put your credentials in (not your more fortunate friend's).
3. Now you should be logged in to your account with SL in the cart for 9.95 or whatever.
4. Buy it. Rejoice.
