First Apple failed at copying Tesla

Secondly they failed at copying Occulus

Thirdly they failed at creating a competent AI

And now they are going to fail right alongside Jony Ive’s OpenAI AI pin thingie which Apple is copying.

Legit question…..has Apple turned into Intel ? An old tired OG tech giant who has run out of ideas at the same time they can no longer execute on their existing core competencies ?

Tim Cook can't exit fast enough 😭

People DO NOT WANT creepy cameras. Not on someone’s nose, not on someone’s lapels.
In many cities in the US right now, such a lapel camera can either save your life or record proof of civil rights and constitutional violations that could net you some $$$. There's already spy cameras -- why not an advanced consumer version?

If this rumor is true, the gadget launches, and works, this would be great to record family gatherings or other times someone might want to remember better. There's always something a little creepy about items like this though. Consent and privacy of others need to be prioritized.
Seriously illegal unless you have a flashing light over your head warning everyone around that they are being recorded. Both parties need to give permission in this state.

Apple is working on a small, wearable AI pin equipped with multiple cameras, a speaker, and microphones, reports The Information. If it actually launches, the AI pin will likely run the new Siri chatbot that Apple plans to unveil in iOS 27.

The pin is said to be similar in size to an AirTag, with a thin, flat, circular disc shape. It has an aluminum and glass shell, and two cameras at the front. There is a standard lens and a wide-angle lens that are meant to capture photos and videos, while three microphones are designed to pick up sound around the wearer. An included speaker allows the pin to play audio, and there is a physical control button along one edge. The device is able to wirelessly charge like an Apple Watch.

Apple wants the final version of the pin to be about the same size as an AirTag, but it will be slightly thicker. Currently, there is no built-in attachment method, but that could change later in development.

The Information says it is not clear if Apple plans to sell the pin on its own or bundle it with future smart glasses or other devices, but the physical button and built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones suggest that it can operate independently.

AI pins and wearables have not fared well so far, but multiple companies are developing AI wearables. OpenAI is teaming up with Jony Ive for some kind of small AI device that may or may not be wearable, and it has multiple other AI products in the works. Meta has AI glasses, and Amazon has the Bee bracelet. Dozens of other small companies have created small, AI-integrated wearables and devices, which means Apple needs to keep pace.

Apple's AI pin could be released as soon as 2027, but The Information cautions that development is in the early stages and could be canceled.

Well there are a couple of scenarios that such devices are helpful, especially for the disabled or elderly

Even after the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1, Apple thinks this is a good idea?!

Maybe not. Apple is in an interesting place in the AI race. Right now, an announcement about being relevant in the AI space is still good for stock position but 2027 is plenty far away that it doesn't matter.

I think anyone who isn't just drinking the Kool-Aid knows this bubble is gonna burst. (And it ain't gonna end near as pretty or have the eventual useful infrastructure that dot com brought us.) Announce something. Number go up. And yet, Apple's lack of real investment in AI—they're just licensing Gemini—means no infrastructure to maintain. No real... anything when this bottoms out.

Whether Apple "missed" on the LLM craze/nightmare due to misreading its growth or realizing early on that it was just hype—after all, it was one of their early studies that sorta said, "Uhhhh, this just isn't nearly as good as it needs tote to do what it claims—will ultimately result in the same outcome. When there's a gigantic hole in the economy, Apple won't be holding the hot potato for gigawatt data centers full of rapidly depreciating NVIDA AI GPUs that are basically useless for anything but LLMs.

I think FOMO is still the main driver in these initiatives, but... compared to like Microsoft and Google (and Oracle who is completely screwed), Apple will take much less collateral damage when the dominos start falling.

Agreed. People aren't going to be walking around en mass with cameras on them, and I include smart glasses in this

No, nobody will ever walk around with a camera on them,..ever..can you imagine people walking around everyday with a camera on them? Ayayay Lol! 🙄🤦‍♂️

These will never take off. If they have a camera, they will just be banned from most workplaces and I think many people will ask guests to remove them if coming into their home. Everyone having a camera on them at all times is just a horrible idea.
I'm happy to let guests come into my house with these (if they will exist). If the guest is a stranger, sure I'd have them remove it, but someone I invited (or unexpected family or friends)? No problem.

Also, people generally have a camera on them at all times anyway with smartphones. It only takes a second to pull one out and start filming.

For the few times I might want these abilities it's pretty darn easy to just pull my phone out and use it for the same purpose.

Eventually when truly practical and fashionable AR glasses come out (with display) I can see using that as it could identify visually things I see quietly. I want to get it smart enough to identify the names of neighbors I run into on occasion while out walking along with doing many other things.

Do we really want to live like this?

I already can't stand everyone staring at their phone, or being so incredibly rude as to not remove headphones (even large over the ear ones!) at stores when interacting with staff.

Just me talking to you in person might mean you're photographing me, videoing me, recording what I'm saying? Or not paying attention at all!

It just sounds bloody awful and so not "human".
