These will never take off. If they have a camera, they will just be banned from most workplaces and I think many people will ask guests to remove them if coming into their home. Everyone having a camera on them at all times is just a horrible idea.
I wholeheartedly agree. I am afraid though, enforcing a workplace ban of AI glasses, pins, rings, and especially Open AI’s smart tooth implant (my guess 😜) will be not be a simple matter. It seems odd for a company advocating Privacy Protection to expand into surveillance consumer tech markets.

I'm happy to let guests come into my house with these (if they will exist). If the guest is a stranger, sure I'd have them remove it, but someone I invited (or unexpected family or friends)? No problem.

Also, people generally have a camera on them at all times anyway with smartphones. It only takes a second to pull one out and start filming.
If people take out a phone and start filming, you know it’s happening.
With these? The inside of your house could be being broadcast to the world and you would have no idea.

this one is missing on the "5 new products" list from earlier today ;)

for this one for sure: I believe it when I see it ...
😊 It is missing only because it was not included in the stolen “leaked sample data” sent to Cybernews of “what appeared to be legitimate internal Luxshare documentation tied to Apple projects” (as reported by MR in the earlier apple-product-plans-stolen-in-luxshare-cyberattack post)

Apple is working on a small, wearable AI pin equipped with multiple cameras, a speaker, and microphones, reports The Information. If it actually launches, the AI pin will likely run the new Siri chatbot that Apple plans to unveil in iOS 27.

The pin is said to be similar in size to an AirTag, with a thin, flat, circular disc shape. It has an aluminum and glass shell, and two cameras at the front. There is a standard lens and a wide-angle lens that are meant to capture photos and videos, while three microphones are designed to pick up sound around the wearer. An included speaker allows the pin to play audio, and there is a physical control button along one edge. The device is able to wirelessly charge like an Apple Watch.

Apple wants the final version of the pin to be about the same size as an AirTag, but it will be slightly thicker. Currently, there is no built-in attachment method, but that could change later in development.

The Information says it is not clear if Apple plans to sell the pin on its own or bundle it with future smart glasses or other devices, but the physical button and built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones suggest that it can operate independently.

AI pins and wearables have not fared well so far, but multiple companies are developing AI wearables. OpenAI is teaming up with Jony Ive for some kind of small AI device that may or may not be wearable, and it has multiple other AI products in the works. Meta has AI glasses, and Amazon has the Bee bracelet. Dozens of other small companies have created small, AI-integrated wearables and devices, which means Apple needs to keep pace.

Apple's AI pin could be released as soon as 2027, but The Information cautions that development is in the early stages and could be canceled.

If this trend continues, we will have smart dentures some day.

Smile to take a photo, keep grinning to record a video. However, you have to open your mouth real wide for a panorama shot.

That’s assuming there is no indicator that it’s recording. This is a super sketchy rumor about something we know almost nothing about (let’s just assume it’s a real product Apple is considering).

Do you really think Apple will release a “spy” device without privacy considerations? AirTags weren’t perfect and there were initial overreactions about them, but Apple worked on ensuring they were at least challenging to use inappropriately.

I suggest not making up hypothetical privacy concerns about things we know nothing about.

This sounds like it will run afoul of all sorts of laws.

If it doesn’t I predict there will be new laws created. Because this crap is getting seriously out of hand.

It’s not an outlandish question.

Take away the iPhone and what is this company right now?

(All that services growth is super dependent on the iPhone)
For the few times I might want these abilities it's pretty darn easy to just pull my phone out and use it for the same purpose.

Eventually when truly practical and fashionable AR glasses come out (with display) I can see using that as it could identify visually things I see quietly. I want to get it smart enough to identify the names of neighbors I run into on occasion while out walking along with doing many other things.
I would rather make human contact and ask my neighbor for their name. I am still optimistic, thinking they would forgive me if I asked them 2 days prior and forgot their name.

We can all police each other and bring Orwell’s nightmare to life…..so close already…..

If they can swing a deal with Paramount to license Star Trek communicator designs, Apple could probably sell millions of them, regardless of how creepy they were.

In many cities in the US right now, such a lapel camera can either save your life or record proof of civil rights and constitutional violations that could net you some $$$. There's already spy cameras -- why not an advanced consumer version?
Why not ? The cops wear vest cameras…that they don’t turn on half the time. And when they do we see them ripping out an old man from his shower into the freezing air who was a citizen.

Or shooting citizens.

I wonder if the footage from the iPin thingie worn by the first person shot by ICE while wearing it will ever be released by the DOJ?

What is the point? If it says it has AI in it, that makes me want to stay as far away as possible from it, especially something that is wearable. And more cameras? Don't we have enough camera in our lives?
Perfect for those devotees who are all-in with everything Apple.

Who have zero common sense and a completely lack of critical thinking skills. Those who have no respect for others preferences and fail to take responsibility for their own privacy, much less understand the meaning of the word.

Apple's dreams come true, lemmings wearing these and sending the data back to the mothership.

They will frak it up, somehow, some way, “I guarantee it.” Two areas apple now seems to continually innovate in: monetization and squeezing even more pennies out of everything ad absurdum, and expensive swing-and-miss’s.

Overheats in 2min of continuous use, doesn’t understand 95% of things you say.
99.9% of things you ask to do, can be done faster by pulling out the phone
Or ask something and it will be like, “here’s what i found on the web for ‘remind me to call the office when i leave here’, but you’ll need to unlock your iPhone first. Check it out!”

If this rumor is true, the gadget launches, and works, this would be great to record family gatherings or other times someone might want to remember better. There's always something a little creepy about items like this though. Consent and privacy of others need to be prioritized.
The word that comes to mind is naive.

Starting with the April fool's gags earlier every year.

This is such a bad idea.
