Why DAB? Talk about going off in the wrong direction.

Well I happen to live in a country where this IS the adopted standard and it IS already being rolled out. It may well be possible that the hardware does the reception work and a bit of software (and therefore configurable to specific countries/users) does the decoding (licensing permitting).

(I'm sorry about this rant but.... just because the US doesn't do something, doesn't mean the rest of the world has to follow suit. Just think PAL vs NTSC....)

I was going to say HD Radio should be added before any FM/AM. However I have become overjoyed at Inter radio applications like FStream (a geeks dream=too geeky for a casual user though if they have no idea how networking works). If only AT&T allowed music streaming on 3G and Apple allows it to play in the background (like iTunes) and I will be in heaven.

As long as it can be backgrounded like other Apple audio-type operations, this will be great! I can finally listen to the Bengals on WEBN whilst mowing.

Did you actually read my post? Apparently not.
Step off your "World vs US" high horse for a second and read.

I'm not bashing DAB+. I wish it were available in the US. But the military owns those frequencies here, so we cannot use it.

DAB+ is still not widely used either... again, only 6 countries are rolling it out.
It's still too new to put into a device that will be out dated before DAB+ is widely available.

The old DAB systems suck and need to be replaced. I don't see Apple wasting time and money on that technology either.

HD Radio is US only, so I don't see Apple putting that in a global product either.
The Zune HD has it, but it's only sold here in the US right now, so that makes sense.

As FM is still used globally, it makes sense for them to use it right now.
Better late than never I guess.
I know I would use it.

it would be a nice addition, but not a deal-breaker for me like a camera in the ipod Touch

Damn this would be cool.
The only thing my Samsung T9 had that my Touch doesn't is FM tuning and recording (oh yeah, and voice memos - so useful - not).

iPod touch + FM Tuner = Best iPod Ever

iPod touch + FM Tuner and Transmitter = Really The Best iPod Ever

iPod touch + FM Tuner and Transmitter + Camera = Damn ! Da Bomb

iPod touch + FM Tuner and Transmitter + Camera + Mic + Internet anywhere = iPhone 3GS

I'm getting myself an iPod Touch 8GB for my birthday (end of november), would the iPod Touch have a FM Radio or a Camera (or even both) by then?

Or do you guys think it will take Apple a lot longer to include one of these features?

nope ;)

Actually came here to see if there was any new news about the FM chip capabilities being enabled, anyone?

I second that.. radio is a good thing thing still, and I'd love to have this functionality enabled.

The best version would be the iPod touch + FM Tuner and Transmitter. You can use the tuner for news or sports and transmit it to an external stereo.

Problems are...
1. Apple will charge a PREMIUM for it, like it Usually does with all their products
2. It's only on the newer 4G iTouch since it's a Hardware issue NOT software issue
3. Battery life would SUCK especially if you use the transmitter

Be careful what you wish for....
