Has anyone seen that? Especially the 3d. First their maps work a ton better than google maps, and the 3d is incredible. I am hoping the next map system on ios is like this.

Nokia maps is fairly new, was released 16 months ago, while Google maps was released 6 years ago, I don't see how their maps are better than Google Maps. o_O

Also Google does this already with Google Earth

Well, better hope for Apple to license their map data wisely then. After all, the tech itself without the data is quite useless --- and if Apple are to collect it themselves, it'll a) cost more b) take a ******** of time.

The maps load a ton faster, much smoother transition between zoomed out and zoomed in, better 3D rendering (comparing Vegas in both.)

What??? Are you serious?
Nokia Maps/Ovi Maps started as smart2go in 2001.

Nokia owns Navteq and they have more accurate mapping data covering more than 180 countries and free turn-by-turn voice navigation & visual routing in more than 100 countries in almost 50 languages. Also Google's 3D models are nowhere as detailed and realistic as the C3 powered Nokia Maps 3D.

Please read the Wiki article: "it was born initially as a generic 3D-map interface for access to tourist information on mobile terminals as part of EU Consortium named TellMaris in 2001"....

It was a map interface for tourists... Nothing like that of Google Maps at the time.

It started as TellMaris, then in 2006 that's when Nokia made the smart2go application.

That is already a year later than Google Maps was first released.

In 2010 Nokia maps added turn by turn navigation. In 2009, Google Maps already had it.

Google Maps was always a step ahead of Nokia maps.

There was no Google Maps at the time.

Nokia Maps with turn by turn voice navigation launched on Nokia N95 announced in Sep 2006 and general availability in Q1 2007. Voice navigation was part of the premium service.

2010 was when Nokia announced their turn by turn walk and drive navigation as a FREE GLOBAL service for new and existing GPS enabled Symbian devices.

Google announced their free turn by turn directions service in October 2009 and was limited to US. Nokia followed with its free voice turn by turn walk & drive service in January 2010 covering 74 countries in 46 languages (maps for 180 countries) and unlike Google Maps which required a data connection Nokia Maps is an offline solution from 2008 onwards and uses data connection for live traffic data and such.

Google Maps was always a step ahead of Nokia maps.

Sorry, but no.
