Also, I've heard from some people that would know that it's pretty bad internally.

wow. can we quote you on that? or "some people"?

----------

Well among the tech world Apple is known for pretty average salaries and an oppressive atmosphere. I think it's pretty clear why that wouldn't work without their leader around anymore. Who would want to put up with that?

they are known for this? really, where? can you point us to some links?

----------

And the tanking share price. I know a lot of Apple guys who have 20-30K in Apple stocks. Now it's 40% less. Tim Cook: keep depressing the stock price and soon you will have no one left for "innovation", only this time, it's for real.

funny that you blame Cook for the stock price, rather than wall street. hint: cook doesnt set the stock price. all he can do is generate revenue and profit. and currently, hes doing it like nobodys business -- apple owns the majority profit-share in mobile AND pc markets, and has earned billions and billions each quarter. oops! what more do you want him to do? oh yeah, come out w/ something to alleviate you of tech boredom.

I wonder if he was part of AMD's GPU turn around in the past 6 months. The contract for console APUs is probably from before his return.

Maybe Apple underpays its best people, but maybe it is just a plain lousy place to work. Any portrayal of the culture wrought by The Steve that I have seen was that he was an abusive employer. And corporate culture generally flows from the top down.

But maybe apple is a great place to work that pays above-market wages and this is a lone crank. Unlikely, but maybe true?

...or maybe you have no idea since you dont work there? most likely true?

You must not have applied there lately. Nothing like spending a full business day interviewing with different departments that can't tell you what they do, only to have the recruiter hang up on you when you share your current (already below market) salary, or try to brag about how great the stock program is. I don't know about your bank/landlord, but mine won't accept rent/mortgage payments in options.

Nope, I haven't applied at Apple though I used to know a few Apple employees. I wouldn't work there myself. It doesn't fit with what I want. But not everyone goes for money though. Sometimes it's the name on the resume and the technology you work with that is what you really want. And then you parlay that later into real money somewhere else.

Attitude much?

Facebook has also hired an Apple executive. So obviously these folks are being offered something far better than what Apple has.

And what about all the people moving to/from other companies that we never hear about? With Apple anything and everything is news. Especially when Apple goes quiet and rumor sites have nothing to report.

Wow, jumping ship from a great innovative company to one that is struggling to make a profit - things must be very bad behind close doors at apple

...and he goes straight for the doomsday scenario.

What if they simply finished what projects (architectures to drive Retina endeavours) they were working on and wanted a new challenge, as is common with those who don't work primarily for money anymore.

They hired someone that Apple fired and was unemployed.

I've heard from my college buddies that worked at both Apple and Google that:
1) Apple pays really well but makes you feel like **** (oppressive atmosphere, can't talk about what you do, must watch everything you say/write/blah in any medium, etc etc).

2) Google doesn't pay nearly as well but you get a lot more enjoyment out of it, open atmosphere, you have more freedom of doing what you want, etc etc.

This was approximately a year ago. Not sure how things are today though.

It happens a lot in the tech world, I think, but it's hard to believe that it's more likely to happen in Apple than in the other companies. In my employment contract with a major tech corporation (which is considered to be one of the top-10 to work for), there is a clause which prohibits me from encouraging other employees to follow me if I quit.

Its not Time Cooks fault the stocks so low its the Analysts at companies like JP Morgan all they want is to manipluate the stockmarket for their own bonuses.

They want Apple to release the cash in the bank $137B because Apple will not do this the stock is so low. You telling me a company that makes $1B profit a week is doing badly.

Apple should buyback the stock and take the company private then they can do what they want and no more answering to the stock market

What is going on???

And I'm wondering about what Apples future ARM efforts will be like.

Considering that Apples chips have relied on PowerVR for graphics and the design is derivative of ARM's core designs I imagine the two companies they picked up specialising in ARM chip design (PA Semi and Intrinsity) will be more than enough to keep producing their processors.

The loss of one individual won't change much I don't think :)

That's a pretty impressive list you put together.

With all those positions unfilled, no wonder it seems that the direction and execution is suffering.

Christ there goes two people who have a lot of sway to AMD. They still are gonna have respect from many in Apple. I really hope Apple does not use AMD Processors simply because they are junk.

There is clearly "something" going on behind the scenes. What exactly, we can't know. Apple hasn't headed too far off course yet that I'd worry, but if they start going down the path of "a device for everyone" like they used to in the 90s, then I'll worry. There have been signs so far, but that's all they've been.

Wow, jumping ship from a great innovative company to one that is struggling to make a profit - things must be very bad behind close doors at apple

Oh Stop! Once he learned the Architecture , he jumped ship, wouldn't surprise me, :apple: let it out of the box, to empower AMD to
Provide:eek: chips for their needs

----------

i feel like apple is imploding internally

Stop! You seriously cannot believe that! What are you 12?

REALLY hope they don't start using AMD chips...

AMD CPUs: Yes, I agree. Stick with Intel.
AMD GPUS: Way better than NVIDIA. I would avoid buying a computer with an NVIDIA GPU.

----------

Facebook has also hired an Apple executive. So obviously these folks are being offered something far better than what Apple has.

Duh. The Apple executive was getting $0/hour from Apple... because he got fired over Apple Maps.

I will worry if this "low-cost iPhone" thing or the colored iPhones (besides just a red option) turns out to be true.

That's because we're here on an Apple news site.

What's going on? Lots of people are leaving all of a sudden? :(

Leaving the ship, eh?

With around 50,000 Apple employees in the US and around 80,000 Apple employees worldwide a lot of people will be leaving all the time. And a lot of new people will be hired all the time.
