You can still buy the Mac Studio with M3 Ultra, it's just the option to upgrade to 512 GB of RAM has been removed, likely due to current RAM prices. Top option is now 256 GB of RAM.
it’s curious though, did they get so absurdly expensive that they’d stop the product

Perhaps the high RAM pricing is absurdly expensive enough to shrink the market for high RAM computers built on the aging M3 architecture. Especially now that M5 silicon benchmarks are looking very promising for AI workloads.

If new Apple desktop releases are due in the near future, Apple may be reallocating its limited RAM inventory on the M5 Mini/Studio/Pro production in anticipation of a WWDC release.

Why anyone would even consider buying an Ultra when they know full well that nest years Max will match or come close to matching it at a fraction of the cost is beyond me, I guess bragging rights have no price ceiling
Because there will always be something better a year later. A person has to buy when they need and want. Waiting for the next greatest Mac computer is a never ending waiting game. Most people cannot wait that long.

I guess stock is low and they obviously don't make M3 chips anymore. Also who is buying that machine in 2026 with M5 out and the M5 ultra being rumored.

Agreed. Hopefully the M5 Ultra comes out soon. Apple needs to fix their Ultra lineup as it is quite common for M+1 Max to beat the M Ultra.

This is my thinking too. I have gotten very disappointed with Apple and their top of the line devices. If it wasn't for the extra encoders/decoders, I would have moved to the Max chips for better performance.

512GB Mac Studio hasn't been discontinued you just can't currently order it - demand is too high, they've sold too many and can't get hold of the chips. MacRumors weren't on top of the situation at all - shipping times slipped to 12-14 weeks, then they took it off line. Then they increase the price of all the 512gb machines by £1200 but still didn't list it for sale again yet. April it might be back.

Well my M1 Ultra is still working very very well. Also, the Ultra has 6 TB ports as opposed to the 4 in the Max. In my case the the ports are TB4 and I use the lot.

Amid its introduction of 10 new devices this week, Apple discontinued over a dozen of its products dating back to 2019.

Apple this week announced the iPhone 17e, refreshed iPad Air models with the M4 chip, MacBook Air models with the M5 chip, MacBook Pro models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, two new Studio Display models, and the all-new MacBook Neo. Simultaneously, these 15 products were removed from Apple's lineup to make way for the new additions:

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro (2024)

If anyone knows of anywhere in the southern hemisphere selling the 32” XDR at a discount, I’d love to know about it.

Unless they come out with M5 Ultra. Everyone with the money can buy a really cheap AI workstation.

The M4 versions are great devices and one can easily consider buying them especially if it is on discount. Think many retailers will have them on discount in the coming weeks.

It seems some on here are very excited about having the NEO released with incredible aluminium (Aust Model) as they finally have a Mac they can sneer at, when they spot one at the coffee shop when peering over the lid of their MacBook Air.

Many of these products are only “discontinued” directly from Apple. Some, such as the M4 MBA and M4 Pro/Max MBPs, are still available through authorized non-Apple retailers like Amazon and BH Photo/Video, for less than the M5 versions.

I find it hilarious that there’s still people on the internet that think people are buying business tools for bragging rights.

Time is money, and if you need the tool now and the extra performance saves you time, it’s money you get back.

My M3 Ultra paid for itself extremely quickly.

So Apple discontinued just one product, the Pro Display XDR, and all the other products got spec bumps? Got it.

What in fact does "discontinued" mean? I believe you actually mean the product is no longer listed on the Apple Store or sold in Apple Stores worldwide. The word "discontinued" could be reasonably miisnterpreted as the end of support, which is not true.
Bottom line: WATCH. YOUR. WORDS.

I don't think anybody would misconstrue discontinued to mean end of support
