iMac is what made Apple a unique company. They will not turn it down. The iMac family will not be left with a mere 24” device. Just be patient ?
I really never understood what was Tim Cook's problem with the 27" model. It was my favourite. Now what to do? Maybe I should go and hunt for an imac pro at bargain.
The 8-core GPU on the M1 is only about half as powerful as the Radeon 5300 in the base model 27" 2020 iMac.
That’s debatable. Macs is what made Apple a unique company, way before a iPhone was ever thought of. But as others had commented I think Apple removed the Intel 27” to stop it from being sold, decrease inventory so they are not left with lots of stock before they introduce a m1 max version of the 27” iMac in May.iMac is what made Apple a unique company. Yep. My 14" M1 Pro MBP runs Photoshop and Lightroom about the same performance as my 2020 27" iMac. An M1 mini would be a significant downgrade, especially with no 32GB option. Not true. The 8-core GPU on the M1 is only about half as powerful as the Radeon 5300 in the base model 27" 2020 iMac.
I have no intention of buying. This stuff isn't aimed at me. I was just hoping for a new larger iMac to replace my late 2012 iMac as it's on its last legs now. Guess I'll have to go for the 24" version in the next spec update (M2?).Well the RAM starts at 32GB with the Mac Studio, and upgrading to that with the old 27” iMac was a significant cost.
Perhaps the initial outlay is more than you’d like to spend, but once you’ve got the display you can pair it with future Mac Studio models at less cost.
A huge disappointment - I was eagerly waiting for a 27" iMac. Apple you let this Mac user (since the SE-30 days) down and now want to pick my pocket for the Studio set up because I need a 27" display.
Following the launch of the new Mac Studio and Studio Display, Apple has discontinued the 27-inch iMac.

The 27-inch iMac had remained in the iMac line alongside the smaller 24-inch iMac with Apple silicon and was one of just a few Macs that still featured an Intel processor.
Now with the 27-inch Studio Display that can be connected to any Mac, Apple has seemingly felt there is no need for a large-sized all-in-one desktop computer. The 24-inch iMac is now the only all-in-one desktop computer offered by Apple.

So humour me here - does anyone really think we will see an upgraded 27" iMac now - At all?
My hope is that maybe they just discontinued it for now, to push Sales of the Studio line. I have been hanging out for a new 27" iMac for a good 18 months now and don't know whether to keep hoping of face facts it's gone and the Studio setup will cost me a lot more than I had hoped!
the problem with a large all-in-one like the imac 27" is that it's kinda wasteful. My current 30" LCD has been used for over 10 years, on multiple machines. But with the imac, I'm essentially buying a new 27" display each time I upgrade.

For this reason, I think if they do offer an upgraded processor for the Mini, it would be limited to the M1 Pro. Since the Mac Mini has offered up to an Intel i7, it should have no problem cooling an M1 Pro that works fine in a 14” MBP.So if the MacMini might soon have an M1 Max option, what then would be the difference between the Mini and the Studio other than the studio being 2.5 times taller? If the Studio needs that extra 2 inches for cooling, then how would it be possible for there to be a Mini Max without that huge cooler? Or if the Studio really only needs the 2 inches to cool the Ultra, then the Max option is just wasted space for wasted cooling? Something doesn't make sense.
Feels like SKU proliferation has crept back into the fold at Apple. Time for the Apple management team to carefully examine the product roadmap and simplify once again: pro vs. consumer in desktops, laptops, iPads and iPhones. 24" & 27" iMacs (consumer), Mac Studio + Studio Display (pro) ... simplify where possible with fewer configurations and yet still maintain margins.
I agree, this is not a huge array of unfocused products as they ended up with in the 90's. It's more coherent than the lineup we have seen over the last 10 years. Also, in the 90's Apple's market was much smaller and they had little money to support so many products. Now as their market has grown so much, it makes sense to split some lines up to better address the needs of some of their customers who don't fit well within a narrow product scope.I think Apple has been doing just that.
