I was planning on upgrading to that from my S5 aluminum this year. Seems like a really dumb move, I’m sure a lot of people will be holding onto their old watches longer now, whether in the same boat as me, or previous Edition owners who were thinking of upgrading.

Ceramic was a fixation of Ive (and designers). When you get out with an “Ultra” for extreme sports that is scuffed in presentation, designed (assembled is the real word) by engineers, Ceramic will be a mirage. No Ive, no party.

I wear the 41mm, as I have small wrists. If they made the Ultra in 45mm, I think I would have been interested, but 49mm would be too big for me.

Most of all, wish the white ceramic white would come back.
Sounds like you need to upgrade your wrist to the  Wrist Pro

I don’t know think keeping things pristine is the target audience of this. Being rugged is more important than looking rugged

SO glad I went ahead and snatched up an S7 Ti when I could! Got it @2~ weeks ago and love it! It’s extremely durable and looks great. Love the lightweight feel compared to my old S4 Aluminum. I use my watch for swimming. To me the Ultra, while priced right, is too big. And I’m swimming laps, not diving or hiking the Appalachian trail or running an Ironman. I feel like I probably had to pay too much at regular price, but it has been worth it!

Btw, apple only wanted to give me $75 for my old S4, so I sold it for $100. Was probably worth more but it was kinda scratched and it was more $ in my pocket.

I very much doubt that. They were selling so few of them that it was probably not worth the R&D anymore. RIP though.
I don't think they sold a few: they replaced me for free 7 Apple Watch Edition 2 in October 2021. They are products from 2016. It means they sold a lot of them if they still have that kind of stock.

I will keep my white ceramic watch. Instead of getting one that looks the same as the SE which cost 250.

Makes sense. Why would you want one when you could get a device that's made of the same material but brings more functionality with it, even if you don't plan on taking advantage of it?
I've had the S5, S6, and S7 Ti and loved them all. It was a good run!!

But I just ordered the Ultra w/orange Alpine and I couldn't me more exited. So glad it's Ti (one of my favorite materials) and so glad it's $799. Can't wait till 09/23!!
Weight. My Series 6 Titanium 44mm’s case weight is 41.3 grams. The Ultra is 61.3 grams.

weeeell it also disappeared for a year in 2018 with the Series 4, so it hasn't been here the whole time. But given the pricing on the Ultra model, I don't see it coming back.
I think they’ve all but given up on this line of marketing but I’d like to see them do limited runs of niche materials like carbon fiber or platinum. It’s all about health and fitness now.

stoked i got the series 6 watch edition. Good there but it’s totally lame they didn’t do any pride bands, is that only a spring thing or did they discontinue? People will be pissed if there are no longer any pride band options.

Watch Ultra is a great replacement for the Watch Edition.
🤣
It costs half the price of a real Ceramic Edition in the United States. It's as bad as no one knows what, it's a rugged watch assembled with a soft material, quite the opposite of the rugged.

It's only good for those, and there are many especially in the States, of the “Go big or go home”. The spot is also ridiculous: people who climb mountains with extreme climates with their bare hands, people who dive in thermal suits but with bare hands, people who run marathons in the deserts. Okay, the idea of bare hands serves cinematically to show the product, but if it is to be worn with thermal suits as the sensors can work and have it ‘at the reach of a glove’, if it will be buried under various layers of technical clothing. It's stuff for wannabe, extreme sportsmen will continue to use Garmin and those with good taste looking for an Apple Watch in a refined material, whether Ceramic, Gold or Titanium, while fashion addicted (fashion from wannabe, with bracelets that can be purchased by anyone for 899€!) They will continue to overburse those useless Hermes.

I'm not so sure about the target audience. There's only so many extreme sports enthusiasts out there. I think for the majority of buyers this purchase will be aspirational, just like the real target audience of SUVs is not people who need to transport sports equipment.

People who use their SUV or trucks as an actual tool might not care about scuffs, the majority that just considers them cool cars will still freak out about the first scratch in their brand new toy.

i don't see how that's connected. Apple holds a stock of "spare parts" for a minimum of 5 years after the model was discontinued. Sure, they can give you a newer model if the part is momentarily unavailable, but there's a good chance that the watches you received as replacements were manufactured long after Series 2 was off the market.

Case in point, I received a replacement 1st gen Watch (2015) this spring and accoding to its S/N, this particular unit was manufactured in August 2020 (D8 date code). Needless to say, being produced 4 years after the model was discontinued, this watch could have never been intended for retail distribution. But at the same time, stainless 1st gens get replaced for series 2 most of the time now.

Another case, like 2 weeks ago, I had a Titanium Series 5 replaced under applecare+ for a unit that was produced sometime in July this year (J3 date code), despite the fact this model was discontinued 2 years ago.

Still on V0 (or is it V1 from 2015 when you could only get them in the Apple Store with an appointment?), it works fine and I see no reason to buy a new one ... although I've bought new ones for other people.

I have no idea why Apple dropped the edition model, but I think they expect many buyers of prior edition models to buy the ultra, whether they're athletes or not. The current 8 lineup seems rather limited now.
