It was probably not selling too well. $79 for a charger is a lot.
They are selling exactly the same product for little less, manufactured by Belkin, since yesterday.

Doesn't he sell or are they so stingy that they have to speculate by cutting a cost and charging royalties? But can Apple be more ridiculous than that?

I have one. Sometimes it won’t make contact and I don’t realize it right away.

Also, the flat edges ‘wrinkle’ if you get the slightest moisture on it when cleaning it.

Im assuming its because it doesn't work with the larger watch now.
1. Because they weren't going to make it bigger;

2. Because they weren't going to update it with fast charging;

3. Because by eliminating it and making Belkin do it they earn twice;

4. Because it was a product of Ive and therefore had to be canceled out of infamy. Next victim: Apple Park.

Wow, this is an essential part of the whole Apple Watch experience for us. I am surprised to see it discontinued.

Could argue that this charger should be included with each watch purchase.
I prefer not to add to the world's junk pile of unused electronics. Stuff like this should never be automatically sent to people who don't want it.

But then wouldn’t MagSafe Duo need to be discontinued too? They have essentially the same charging puck. Abe in the “down” position should be able to charge even a giant watch (or the new AirPods Pro).
They would still have to finish each unit with the extra plastic, box it up, and stock all through each of the retail channels, where it would sit mostly unsold The biggest cost to Apple isn't the manufacturing cost of this, it's the cost of carrying vast amounts of unsold inventory.

I thought that this charger came with the earlier Editions at some point, notably the gold models. Upon looking at some old unboxings, I guess it didn't.

Needs a follow-on with the larger sizes now. It's a great product. I bought three or four other ones before getting this one. This is the only one that worked without failing to charge like the non-OEM ones.

My guess is that the AW Ultra won’t fit on the discontinued Apple dock/charger.

We have two of the Belkin Boost Charge Pro watch chargers which are adjustable to 42/44/45 AW with case, I had doubts whether the larger Ultra would fit, but the  Store page claims Ultra compatibility?

I still use this dock over anything else because the weight prevents the watch from flying off the nightstand if you have some mishap. Plus it looks nice, just it was a premium product and it also came with Edition watches.

It's too bad Apple didn't see fit to revise their MagSafe Duo Charger. It's embarrassing that a $129 charger (excluding the AC adapter) does not support Apple Watch Fast Charging in the second year the feature was announced.

And with even bigger camera bump, the iPhone 14 will have even bigger gap above the charging surface (but presumably, it will still charge).

Perhaps the revision is waiting for iPhone 15 when iPhones, AirPods, etc. are rumored to switch to USB-C.

Mine is still working great by bed side. (Got it at a discounted price)
The Belkin one does look like an improvement over this.
There were a few times that the Apple one was not positioned perfectly and left me with an almost dead watch the next day.

I think that new Boost charger is Ultra compatible. Also the Apple Watch Dock exits in, at least, 2 release: the first one 38/42 compatible and the second one 40/44 compatible. First of all there was the Edition case, same for S2 but without integrated charger, that was an Apple Dock itself and cost, also today, at least 400$ if you find one, but hey, if Tim and other Genius talks about a non selling product, we trash them away. 🤣

You as Apple had a brand that sell itself as gold and what you do? Stop selling products! Great choices Apple management!

Yeah. I just use the charger that came with the Watch. I suspect many others do the same or buy a multi-device charger.
Yea and I just bought some base that looks like that one but black that you wrap the cord in and put the puck in the middle for like $5 on Amazon, and it works fine.

Yeah! And that’s why Belkin, who also pay royalties to Apple for sell the dock, could sell it a 85% with new compatibility and fast charge, ‘cause it not sell well. LOL.

I forgot this existed.

Massively overpriced, you can get a much better charger for less, this is what I use, £15.99: https://amzn.eu/d/aoJ5g3k

Aside from a few standouts such as the AirPods, magic keyboard/mouse and Apple Pencil, apples accessories always seem to be massively overpriced with much less functionality than the competition
