Apple today debuted a new promotion for some of its older Beats products, dropping prices by as much as $50 depending on the item.

The Beats Solo2 On-Ear Headphones in the Luxe line of colors are available for $149.95, a $50 discount off of the regular $199.95 price. Beats Solo2 Headphones are the previous-generation model without wireless connectivity and Apple's new W1 chip. All Luxe colors are discounted, including Red, Silver, Blue, and Black, but other Solo2 models are not available for a lower price.

Apple's lower-priced Beats EP On-Ear Headphones are available for $99.95, $30 off the regular price of $129.95. Also available in Red, Blue, White, and Black, the Beats EP are a newer budget product line that was unveiled in September.

Along with the two sets of headphones, Apple is also discounting its Beats Pill+ Portable Speaker, dropping the price from $229.95 to $199.95. The Pill+ is available in Red, Black, and White.

Apple does not say how long the discounts on its Beats products will last, so customers hoping to get a deal on a speaker or a set of headphones should purchase right away. Discounts are also available in Apple's retail stores.

It won't take long before Apple also start to periodically discount Final Cut and iWorks software from time to time.

In between a rock and a hard place
Wondering if their wondering if $3,000,000,000 for beats was a good deal.
Why would they be wondering that? That purchase of Beats got them the 2nd most subscribed music streaming service and the most popular, most profitable headphones (still). By late 2018/early 2019, that deal should have more than paid for itself.

Again, why would they be wondering?

For a second I read it as "Apple discontinues beats.." and had to do a double take.

Can we get a bluetooth speaker with the W1 chip? I would buy that in a heart beat.

I Suspect Apple will venture on this path with a portable speaker or home automation with the W1 Chip incorporated. Apple can easily expand beyond this.

Regardless of whether you approve of the Beats brand and their products, it was a completely financial sound decision. Beats has a market share of over 60% in the premium headphone market and the deal also gave Apple control of the music streaming rights from Beats Music. Pretty sure the deal will pay for itself in a few years time if it hasn't already.

Same old beats hate. My wireless studios are awesome and I would buy another set if they updated them with a lightning port.

Yup, I'm on the same boat with this. That's my only really pet peeve right now.. iphone/ipad are lighting, and my headphones I need to carry a micro USB.. sort of annoying. I guess USB-C everything would be nice in a couple of years

I'm fine with the speed of the lightning port. Not sure what advantage faster transfer and charge would really accomplish for the masses. I charge with my 2.1 amp charger when I'm in a hurry. I just want 1 charge cable for all my devices

Headphones are one of my hobbies, from experience I can tell you that there are much better headphones available for the price.

I personally can't listen to them even if they were free due to the muddy low end and recessed mids. Just hurts my ears.

Headphones aren't a hobby...you don't have to like something I do, I'm just tired of reading the same comments like anyone cares that you don't like them because of their bass or price. Personally I'm happy with my purchase and I'm sorry you can't accept that.

As someone who listens to all music, they are great for me.

Some people like records and some people like cds. Which one of those people are wrong?
