You conveniently forgot to mention that overall market share is still at a paltry 5.6%. Apple has had the best OS on the market for the last three decades and their still not in double digit market share. It's not sacrilege to suggest that they should be doing better.
Apple's 2nd Quarter 2007 U.S. marketshare was up to 5.6% of U.S. shipments. This tied Apple in 3rd place with Gateway for U.S. marketshare for this quarter.
I didn't conveniently leave out anything. I made a statement and then left a link to an article with its title. Is that too hard to understand?????
As far as the rest of your comment, you apparently know nothing about business, market share or how/why it got there.
Apple lost the market share war a long time ago. It has nothing to do with when they put out updates either. They lost the market share war years ago when the corporate world gave up typewriters and filing cabinets for a PC. They went with whatever was cheaper. Apple computers were much more expensive back then and the corporate world bought what was cheaper. The long term effect of this, because personal computers would soon be moving into the home, is that most people were accustomed to using a PC at work, so when they bought one for the home, it was a PC. And also, macs were still much more expensive.
Also, because most corporate entities went the PC route, especially the large companies, it is now impossible for them to switch even if they wanted to. It would involve changing everything from hardware all the way down to paying programmers to rewrite custom software for the mac, porting everything over, etc...
Apple knows this. That is why they have turned to the regular consumer. Of course Apple has graphics designers and creative markets that they dominate, but... they more or less focus on the consumer and not the corporate world. Even the iPhone is not being pushed as a corporate business phone, it is for the average consumer.
I don't think we will ever know what the consumer market share is, but I am sure it is much higher than what you think it is.
Apple has been growing their market share. Growth is growth. The fact that Apple has pretty much ruled the education market for years could have the same long term effect that the PC had moving out of the office and into the home. These kids are learning on a Mac! What do you think they are going to buy when they get old enough to purchase a computer? That could have a big swing in market share for Apple. It won't happen overnight, but it could happen.
Also, Apple with their tiny market share is also completely debt free and has more liquid cash sitting in the bank than Dell with it's huge market share. I guess that is bad business though.
Get educated on what you are talking about.
