2007 people were in this poll while there are millions using apple products. It's not enough

Actually, it is. If you look at the statistics of polling, it's rather surprising how small a sample is really needed to make a fair poll. Political polling is done with those sorts of numbers routinely.

That said, I haven't had any particular problem with my iPhone, but as a long-time Apple customer (back to 1979), I'd have to say their overall manufacturing quality is not as good as it used to be. But, as noted as above, all the other PC makers have slacked off on QA as well and make everything as cheaply as possible. In a minute I'm going to start getting nostalgic about the my old Northgate and the indestructible NEC spinwheel printer that used to be attached to it (the one that was eventually replaced by an HP Laserjet that held out for 14 years of fairly heavy use!).

I believe my current iPhone 4S has a hardware problem. The battery dies with in 3 hours. I've restored from new and replaced the battery.

I haven't had any problems with my iPad 3.

Although I'm going to get a 5S I feel the 5 does feel less durable then the 4/4S. My lifestyle leads me to be pretty rough on my phone. I may consider something more durable when the time comes.

Couple of things:

1) your link doesn't direct anyone to the survey, just to a story about the survey (which also doesn't have a link to the survey). I checked the actual wesite for MobilePhoneChecker.com and they make no mention of such a survey in their news section. Did this survey actually take place? If yes, then did the survey use scientific sampling methods? Was it an online survey where the participants were self-selected?

2) If it was a legit survey, then less than 15% of the respondents indicated that the quality of Apple products was the reason they believed the iPhone 5s would flop. This would hardly justify the point your are attempting to make here.

2,007 adults said the iPhone would flop? Looks like I need to go ahead and jump over to Android because Apple is doomed!

Joking aside, I've never had any problems out of all the Apple products I've owned...including the iPhone 5.

78% of all statistics are made up!

Actually tests have shown that the 5 is more durable than the 4/4s. Granted the 5 get's nicked and scratched more easily, but survives falls and water submersion far better.

Wife got the iPhone 5 and I got the 4 series. Hers one step from being a android plastic crap! What a joke to defend the 5 bend a phone to the 4 series. Proof in the pudding. Just read these post. Might as well make plastic ones and charge more. Steve jobs be rolling in his grave!

Steve Jobs was still alive and a part of the development process when the iPhone 5 was being developed.

This is why most don't voice their concerns because of backlash such as this. People will praise Apple all day long, but soon as something bad comes on they're everything, but their name because they have issues and someone else doesn't.

So you think you should have the right to speak and have no one challenge you?

As a UK iPhone buyer, having owned the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4S, I was very disappointed with the early and continuing reports of poor build quality of the iPhone 5.

Although people have mentioned several different problems, the one that annoyed me most was the poor anodisation on the black model causing it to chip / scuff / scratch (whatever you want to call it) around the antenna bezel.

I personally believe this reflected Apple taking a complacent approach to their market position and sacrificing build quality for extra profit
All based on hearsay? How about forming an opinion based on first hand experience?

Of course the iPhone 5S will still sell in big numbers, but even more so if the perceived quality drops on the 5 are rectified.
Is there an actual quality drop or a problem of perception? Memory isn't quite as reliable as many make it out to be.

The study, conducted by www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk, polled 2,007 adults aged 18 and over from across the UK in a bid to determine attitudes towards the forthcoming release of the new handset.

2007 people were in this poll while there are millions using apple products. It's not enough

It is actually more than enough people, assuming that the sample was representative (I do not have any basis for judging this). For the population of the UK (about 62 million), a sample size of 2,007 yields a margin of error at the 95% confidence interval of just over ±2%. In other words, if you gave this survey twenty times, 19 of them would probably have results within 2% of this survey's results. That's a pretty damned accurate reflection of public opinion.

Having followed political surveys for years, I've observed that margin of error is as much myth as it is reality. One survey will show 52% of the public supporting candidate A while another poll showing candidate B with 55% support...and they'll both have a 2% margin if error. This happens all the time. Methodology and bias make many surveys just vague reflections of reality.

In this instance, we have an unpublished survey employing unknown methodology. 2007 participates could literally be meaningless given what we know about this alleged survey.

I guess people forgot how badly the back of iPhone 3G scratched easily. Makes the iphone 5 look like pure perfection.

I agree that the quality of the 1st iPhone was better than the 3G. People had scratching problems, the plastic was cracking, etc. I never had those issues because I always kept my iPhone in a case that protected it. I still do that with my 5. Cellphones aren't bricks or made of steel, they will break.

AgreeD!

To be honest …. Well yes it’s true. All the hype about I-Phone has really mellowed in the past few months or maybe in the past year now. I think it is because now there are multiple phone brands offering similar cell phones, at an unbelievably reasonable price and loaded with additional apps. Let’s see if I-Phone can try something new to amuse the customers or not.

People love to bitch, moan and complain more than just about anything else

I have an iPhone 5 and experience none of the so-called lack of quality problems

For every person on a Forum who feels the need to call Apple out over this or that, there are hundreds or thousands of users like me who are not experiencing the reported issues others are having

this.....

I read the thread title and guessed that the OP was going to use the word "premium". A predictable pattern when people want to complain about Apple quality.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Wow, I'm on a roll today.

The quality control sucks for iPhones

I must say the quality control is really crap for the iPhones I hope apple really looks into matters like dust in the screen and camera.... I think they need to INVEST more in areas.

This was probably funded by Samsung. Nothing wrong with the quality of the iPhone. Much better than most.

I do not agree! The 5 was and still is a good phone though they did have some "malicious" assembly problems.

They got to stop listening to us as the 5 is so thin it bends.

I think the difficulties in manufacturing the iPhone 5 has been a factor. I remember reading that it is the most difficult thing to manufacture that they've produced yet, and that may yield uneven results.

My first iPhone 5 had the "chipping" problem around the antenna but I had to have it replaced due to a camera spotting issue and my new one seems chip free and perfect in every way. The design is top notch as always, but when mass producing something as precise and complicated as the iPhone 5, there is bound to be issues, however overblown.
