I feel sorry for all the bad children that got lumps of Samsung coal in their stockings. Maybe next year they'll get out there and mow the lawn when their dad tells them.

Unless of course they wanted a Samsung or other brand, like perhaps Sony who make superb tablets, as they wanted to run some apps that simply were not available on ios which is a fact.
Strange you might think, but true.

Not really.

Sure... the iPhone is a big part of Apple's operation. But Apple's non-iPhone products would be billion-dollar businesses on their own.

Macs had $6.7 billion in revenue last quarter.
Services had $5.1 billion in revenue last quarter.
iPads had $4.1 billion in revenue last quarter.
Other had $3.0 billion in revenue last quarter.

And Apple also generates massive profit from these areas as well.

Most companies can only dream of numbers like these.

Just to keep the numbers consistent, what were the iPhone revenue numbers for last quarter , from the source that you got the above numbers ?

These figures suggest that Apple sold zero iPhone 5s… or at least very, very few.

Yeah, renewed my contract early this time round. Dec.19th. Now sporting a 64GB 6s in space grey.
And really liking it I must say. :)

$32.4 billion - iPhone Revenue
$6.7 billion - Mac Revenue
$5.1 billion - Services Revenue
$4.1 billion - iPad Revenue
$3.0 billion - Other Revenue

But the claim was made earlier "take away the iPhone and Apple will be hurting"

Well... that's almost $19 billion in revenue without the iPhone. I was just trying to show that Apple's non-iPhone businesses are still huge. This company is a monster and I don't think people realize it.

Apple's profit was $11.1 billion for the quarter. That's 3 months, folks! And a non-Holiday quarter too. Although most of the profit was from the iPhone... every product from Apple makes a profit.

I'd guess maybe around $4 billion in profit without the iPhone? Not sure... but something like that.

If so... Apple without the iPhone would be #57 on the Fortune 500 by profit... ahead of General Motors.

But with the iPhone... well... Apple is the most profitable company in the world. Ahead of everyone... oil companies, banks, Wal-Mart, General Electric, you name it. (as of June 2015)

So yes... if the iPhone disappeared... Apple would make much less money.

But they'd still be making more money than the other 443 companies on the Fortune 500. Not too shabby. And definitely not hurting.

Ever since I got my iPhone 6 Plus (upgrading from my original iPhone 5), going back to any other iPhone or iPod Touch is extremely hard to do. I have a 4th generation iPod Touch and just setting them side by side is rather amusing and typing on the iPod after getting so comfortable with my 6 Plus, it just feels nearly perfect to me only if the bulk of the home button and large expanse of the earpiece, cameras, and proximity sensor could be shaved down a bit.

I feel that despite the lower resolution of the regular iPhone 6, I would have hoped for a 1080p display just for the sake of simplicity in the next generation iPhone. Despite it all, the 6 and 6S models have been the most groundbreaking upgrade to the product as a whole since the iPhone 4. Being revolutionary instead of the evolutionary marketing every other year with the "S" upgrades.

The iPhone 5 was a step in the right direction with adding a 16:9 screen ratio, but still so small in the eyes of the average consumer and even the iPhone user in general. Sure people bought them, but the 6 and 6 Plus (and now "S" models were the step in the right direction.

Now if only the 16GB base models would be banished forever in future models, that would be another popular win. 32GB entry model at least!

What I don't understand is why Samsung dominates the Android market.

This is a genuine question to any passing Android fans (I'm sure there are those who come here to troll the Apple fans) - is there something I'm missing that makes Samsung phones a good choice over, say, Sony, HTC, who-ever-makes-the-current-Google-phone, etc?

While Samsung is the largest single Android vendor... non-Samsung Android phones vastly outnumber the Android phones made by Samsung.

There were over 280 million Android phones sold last quarter... but only 78 million of them were from Samsung. That's less than one-third.

Sorry I can't offer the exact reason... but there are clearly a lot of people who do NOT choose Samsung and instead go with another vendor.

I would say it's for several reasons.... 1) they make a good phone. 2) they do the most marketing 3) they gained a huge user base being one of the first with a larger screen.

Before smart phones, Samsung seemed to have a very popular flip phone business too. So I think all this added up over time. Going forward, they have a challenge. Many other Android based phones are nipping at their heals.

I fall into this category, as I bought my iMac during the holiday season. Great news for Apple, and great news for me (I now own an iMac :) )

Good points. I'd say if you're used to Samsung phones... particularly their implementation of Android TouchWiz... you'll probably get another Samsung next time as it will be the most familiar.

But you don't have to. Your favorite apps like Spotify or Instagram will work on any vendors' Android phone since it's the same platform.

It reminds me a lot of the PC market. Some people like Dell... other people like HP or Lenovo.

But they all do basically the same thing so it doesn't really matter.

As expected, the stock is -1.12%

"Horrendous!!! Apple's device activations were ONLY 49%!!! When you sum up all other devices in the world they did better than Apple!!! It's the END!!! SELL NOW!"

Cheers , I was not disputing it, just wanted to see the iPhone number from the same source. I actually thought the iPhone numbers were much higher, so your opinion is very valid.

I have to ask, which one? Not the HDD model ? :p

I got the 5k iMac M395 model which comes with the 2TB Fusion drive.

I did opt for the Fusion drive, but the 2TB because it comes with the larger flash storage compared to the much maligned 1TB Fusion drive.

The reasoning behind my selecting the Fusion drive is that I have 500GB of data and so the cost of a 1TB SSD was well over my budget. Additionally, I just really got tired of dealing with external drives, so that left me with only one option :)

No problem :)

MacRumors charted the revenue percentages here... while I guessed on the profit percentages.

They are all massive numbers, though, any way you slice it.

Congrats ! That's a beast , nice choice of the M395! Yeah the SSD is way too expansive , 2TB fusion is a nice compromise .

Good to know, say it again,,, it sounds better every time.

Everyone like 4.7-inch

I wouldn't be surprised 10 years from now if Apple becomes average. Virtual reality such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Microsoft Augmented reality are expected to be big news in 2016 and beyond. If this catches as the next big thing where is Apple in all of this? What is Apple's game plan? Other than the iPhone I don't see any game changer for Apple. The Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac and iPad lineup will not keep Apple at the top long term. And God forbid the iPhone flops one of these years. I just don't see Tim Cook releasing a game changer anytime soon. Looking back on 2015 Apple had a average play it safe year.
Other than iPhone 7 what does Apple really have in 2016 that would be must buy status?

I actually saw about 4 people with new Apple Watches today where I work, which is a surprise for me. I barely see any every day still. I thought that would change over the Christmas holiday with a bunch of people getting them as gifts but apparently not.
I just spent a week at Disney World and it seemed like about every other person I saw had an Apple Watch. A couple times I saw entire families of people wearing them. It was absolutely crazy--I never got used to seeing so many in one place. And the cashiers there all pretty much expected you to be either using your Magic Band, an iPhone, or an Apple Watch to pay for your stuff. I took my wallet out a total of twice all week--both times were because I needed to show someone my ID.

Strange you might think, but true.

Lol, I don't know about all that...
I don't know how esoteric or niche you think the kids nowadays are, but with literally millions of apps optimized for iPad & virtually 100% of popular tablet apps being available on iOS.... I tend to HIGHLY doubt that a lot of consumers this Christmas asked for a tablet, specifying "please, NOT an iPad", because there aren't apps available that they want.
Sounds VERY far fetched.

What I don't understand is why Samsung dominates the Android market.

As Michael and others noted, most Android phones sold are not from Samsung.

However, Samsung makes a good product, and they offer many variations in various price ranges, which allows people all over the world to afford one of their devices.

This is a genuine question to any passing Android fans (I'm sure there are those who come here to troll the Apple fans) - is there something I'm missing that makes Samsung phones a good choice over, say, Sony, HTC, who-ever-makes-the-current-Google-phone, etc?

Ironically, a comment like that makes it sound like you're doing the trolling.

Quite a few Apple fans here own and love their Macs and iPads, but also own Android phones. It's a popular combination, and was especially so before Apple jumped on the phablet bandwagon.

Many people here switch between iPhones and Android and even Windows phone. They choose whatever device best fits their current situation and desires, no matter who the manufacturer.

But can you realistically say that if the iPhone somehow flops that people would still invest in other Apple products? Maybe the Mac would continue those numbers but I don't see the other iOS like products holding their own. iPads are basically slowing down each year and watches don't have to be replaced every time a new model comes out. Apple TV is still a hobby and is not at must buy status.
