At this stage, I really do not understand why doesn't Apple make an Apple TV with more lan ports so one could use the device to watch movies etc but also as a router

And be the hub of an Apple Mesh Network!

Me too!
It's the one thing they could do that would get me to go buy a new AppleTV/Airport (at MSRP even!)

For the same reason they dont sell iphones that connect to usbc docks and double as macs. If they do that, it proves you dont need multiple devices, you can buy fewer things, and they end up selling less.

I’m going to guess it’s because the product competes with devices from Roku and Google, etc., that are much simpler and less expensive, and adding features and bells and whistles would only make the price difference greater.
