The Apple TV app is very strange, as is the naming in general -- I have a TV, and I can buy an Apple TV (product) to plug into it, running Apple TV (app), with the option to subscribe to Apple TV+ (also app). Surely not confusing at all!

Yes, the silly Apple naming convention follows Monty Python - Spam, Spam, Spam!!!

I would be ok with this, but with the way things are setup in the release candidate, the tv and movie buttons are now redundant, but you CAN’T DELETE THEM!! All I could do was move them to a folder so they wouldn’t be sitting in my face the whole time.

And I’m still annoyed each time I look at the movie filtering settings. I have some categories that only have 1 movie in them like Casablanca is the only classic and Sing Street is the only independent movie, Planes trains and automobiles is my only holiday movie, I have 1 each of music documentaries and music feature films. I wish I could update the details about a movie to put it in the proper category. Scream 3 is a thriller, while the other 5 Scream movies are under horror, and that just annoys me so much.

They need to rename the hardware. Then the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ streaming service names make sense.

I’m baffled as to why they have kept them all having similar names for so long.

Complete Series purchases are not available in the TV app, only iTunes. They need to fix that.

They're available in the current build under a "Box Sets" area when browsing a TV show. It's above the separate seasons. It was the first thing I checked when I updated to the RC. That said, I hate the TV shows and Movies being mixed together on the same store page. I also miss being able to browse by the actual movie posters instead of the weird horizontal tiles.

The TV app has the worst UI of any current apple product. No watch list, no way to easily go back and rewatch previous episodes or shows. Navigation is slow and cumbersome. The only app worse than the TV app is Prime (because you can't freakin' filter out all the ad-supported crap).

And I *only* want to see the content that I own. If I want to shop, I'll shop.

This is a great way to get me to buy content from other services.

OMG yes on the movie poster. And stop making new 'fake' ones. Use the real poster for the theatrical release - the one we all know and remember.

That's why I still prefer my own content streamed from my itunes library on my mac. I control the metadata, organization, and artwork.

Hmmm...I may try that. Download the movie that I've purchased to the mac, and then play it from the mac app instead of the crap tv app.

apple tv app does NOT show all the purchase info, especially with movies anywhere. it shows movies as 4k even if you only own the HD version.

The 'Store' in the AppleTV+ app is complete garbage. It is a stripped down version. It does not offer items on sale, or movie sale bundles, and no complete TV series or sales on complete TV series. This has been a problem since that garbage app was created in macOS Catalina. The only way to find the above items was through AppleTV Movies and TV apps, iOS iTunes Store, or with Mojave running iTunes. I have Mojave running in Parallels on my 2020 iMac 27" for that exact reason.

If Apple is not going to offer the full store with 17.2, then might as well turn off auto update and remain on 17.1 for continued access. Can anyone confirm if 17.2 beta offers the full store in the lousy AppleTV+ app?

I don't want that mixed together. It was perfect when you could browse movies and TV shows separately.

That is just not true.
What country are you in? Your profile says Canada. Are you accessing the Canadian Store? Your TV app looks different. In the US, the TV app has 'Watch Now' not 'Home'. Because in the United States, the TV app in macOS does not offer complete series, only individual seasons at the most expensive prices. I already own Star Trek Voyager and when I search that, I have no option to view the complete series for purchase, only individual seasons. When I searched for Star Trek Enterprise, which I do not own, the only option in the TV app are the individual seasons, or watch on Paramount+. No option to buy the entire series in the TV app. The TV app does not show an option for 'Box Set'. It has 'Seasons' instead, only offering the individual seasons.

Incorrect. Not in the US-based Store. Must only be offered in the International Stores.

Guaranteed that Apple has done little or no research into parity gaps between iTunes and the TV app. We’ll lose functionality with this change for sure.
I was literally coming to say, this is NOT a redundancy in apps. They are completely different, and even have different wish lists, which took me forever to figure out. I thought my wishlist got deleted a few years ago and found it a couple of months ago in the iTunes Movies app....wtf. lol. I hope they merge it into Apple TV's wishlist.

I'm on iOS 17.2 and I still have the iTunes and Apple TV apps. There's an update that showed up today, and I just canceled it because I'm afraid that might be the one that removes it, and iTunes is the only app that has my movies wishlist, since Apple didn't think of the simple thing of moving it over...lol.

…I’m in the US based store.

You need to update to the 17.2 release client before box sets appear.

There’s even a section in the new combined store in the Apple TV app that specifically for top box sets.

They also now have movie bundles listed in the store. (Again, I’m in the US Store on tvOS 17.2 on an Apple TV 4K.)

There’s a lot of things I dislike about the Apple TV app combining the tv and movies into one store front, but I was pleasantly surprised that box sets and bundles are finally available.

Remember when everything was integrated into iTunes and then it got bloated and cumbersome so they decided to split things out into their own apps? Guess it's time to merge everything back into a new app. Promise they will get it right this time...
