Edit: The picture in the article looks ridiculous. Does anyone really want the earpiece cutting through the display??? No.

Would be nice if Macarumors covered the largest Apple patent unveiling just a couple of weeks ago.

iPhone 8 could be made from ceramic. Bye bye ugly antenna lines.

Apple couldn't make a ceramic watch for less than $1200. I'll be surprised if they use it in an iPhone unless it's a special $10K 10th anniversary edition.

I think my 6+ can hold up until then. I could only imagine the rumors that'll be flying around here come next year.

There is no law that I know of that prevents Apple from numbering their iPhone as it see's fit. Microsoft sure didn't care when they went from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Microsoft's excuse was that it was a huge leap and deserved the 10.
Heck, there is no law that prevents the removal of the headphone jack but Apple did so anyway.
Where in that quote did I mention anything about the number? I said less than a year after the 7. Ease off the LSD.

Its already produced they just waiting for next year

Waiiitttt a minute. Is that then going to be the dark blue evolution of the current design where they make the corners ever so slightly less rounded. Make the edges ever so slightly flatter to improve grip and declare it the most singular vision of their design and by far the best iPhone they've ever made? I'm sure I saw that leak somewhere at some point.

IPhone SE was released separately and thus we are now technically on the 11th release cycle. However the first iPhone was released in 2007, so naturally 2017 is the anniversary.

And don't forget the 5c, so the iPhone 7 is really the 12th [and depending on how you're counting - the 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and 7 Plus can be considered different models too - not just by size, but features in both hardware and software, are different with the Plus models.

But the real question is...was Steve buried or did he choose to be cremated? o_O
Neither. Straight cryonics son. The plan, according to anonymous sources, is for Steve, Ted Williams, and Walt Disney to form an evil triumvirate and take over the world in the year 2347.

"Pssst... we are the anonymous sources"

Don't get me wrong, if it worked like we wanted it to, wireless charging would be great. The problem is in practice it will be very low power (<1W), blocked by any object (even your body), and would require a hardware base that probably would be quite expensive.
Apple won't release it until it works like we want it to, and they are working on it....so it's only a matter of time. If not this year, in the next few years.

Personally, I think it would be a miracle if it was released with the iPhone 8, but ya never know.

It worries me that iPhone development work is apparently going on in Israel. I wouldn't be surprised if Mossad had spies in the plant passing on secrets about how to bypass iPhone security.

That's not who should worry us :)

Instead, think about where the iPhone has been assembled for the past decade!

The assembly plant is where some of the per-device system encryption and NFC comm keys are injected... and supposedly not stored anywhere else. Yeah, sure.

No doubt the Chinese Ministry of State Security has agents in Foxconn factories. If they have the ability to manipulate or store certain keys, then they might have the ability to decode the files of virtually every iPhone ever made. That would be an incredible intelligence coup, and something we'd certainly try if the US were in their position.

Apple used white ceramic glass in iPhone 4/4s and 5/5s. Apple can make regular priced iPhones from ceramic with no issue or price difference. It's been done in the past. Apple watch in ceramic is for suckers of clever marketing. It's components cost is no where near that shelf price tag.

Apple is building hardware for next year's iPhone model at its offices in Herzliya, Israel, and referring to it internally as the "iPhone 8," according to an employee there who spoke anonymously to Business Insider. The employee works on soldering components for Apple and gave vague references to how "different" the 2017 iPhone will be from the iPhone 7, which falls in line with rumors about the iPhone 8's radical redesign, without providing detailed information to add to the previous reports.

Still, the naming scheme of next year's iPhone is one of the device's most talked-about aspects. Normally, the smartphone would carry the "iPhone 7s" moniker given that it will be following this year's iPhone 7, but given the major changes Apple plans to introduce to the iPhone in 2017, it seems unlikely the device will receive an "S" name. Because of this, there's a good chance Apple may decide to skip directly to the next full number, naming the 2017 iPhone the iPhone 8.

The Apple employee speaking with Business Insider keeps this idea alive, mentioning what's coming "next" from Apple and discussing the iPhone 8 "unprompted" in the conversation. The same source, "who only spoke in broken English," added that the 2017 version of the iPhone will have a better camera than the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7, which is expected at this point in Apple's yearly upgrade cycle.
The radically redesigned iPhone 8 is said to include an all-glass body, edge-to-edge display with the camera and Touch ID integrated into it, no traditional Home Button, and potentially wireless charging. The device's launch will also fall on the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone's debut, back in 2007, leading to even more speculation that Apple will land on a specialized branding instead of a simple "S" naming scheme.

But because it's so early in the rumor cycle -- and because Apple's R&D offices in Herzliya have nothing to do with marketing and branding of the iPhone -- it's best to take today's report with the usual grain of salt. Tim Cook visited the Herzliya offices when they opened last year with rumored focus on storage space, processors, and communications chips being worked on by around 800 employees.
