I sell my own products and you better believe I'm making profits for all the hard work that goes into making them (and mine are small). Apple can charge whatever people are willing to pay so I never get the arguments people make when they say they're over charging. No one is forcing people to buy anything Apple is selling.

Now, I already Pre-ordered two watches but if any employees want to buy one for me I'd be more that happy to save 50% and return mine haha.

It takes a comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and business. Don't feel bad that it doesn't make sense to you.

Great move by Apple

Any employee that wanted one is happy. One who was on the fence will now buy one. If they own one they're likely to be more excited about that and portray it to customers friends and family. This makes the "trend" happen faster. Excited salespeople are good salespeople.

The discount is apples cheapest marketing play!

FYI: I ended up ordering a 42mm Blue Leather Loop.. as in person the link bracelet was as expected, nothing special. I'll make do with my polished stainless case vs. space black. It's too bad Apple had to lock people into getting that link bracelet with the space black model..

Do you really think an Apple employee is on these forums who values their job so little that they are willing to risk it to badmouth their employer's brand new product just so you feel better about not buying one,...? You may want to rethink that assumption. It comes across a little selfish. I'm sure you didn't intend it that way, just sayin'.

Working for Apple and loving your job is not synonymous with (or obligation to) obsessing over every product they offer. An employee should absolutely be able to verbalize their subjective opinions with no retaliation, and I would fault Apple if they did so.

Front-line employees working retail should obviously hold their negative opinions while working; that would be inappropriate.

I'm afraid I don't see the distinction. In this day and age, employees are held responsible for their online comments as much as their comments while at work, whether on a private Facebook page or a public forum like this one.

Is that right? Probably not. But it doesn't make it any less true. Maybe some people are willing to take that risk, but in today's job market I think asking someone to do so for such a trivial reason is a little selfish.

Why would an Apple employee give you 50% off? They can sell them at profit, by just selling a scarce item at retail price. You've got to be a REALLY good friend to get that deal.

Plus their manager finds out they bought one and sold it - might get them fired. Worth it for NO profit? I don't think so.
