Those of you who complain about the margins and costs, I'd also recommend you never eat at a restaurant again either, do you know how much they mark up their food costs?
There's probably a free Econ 101 class you can find online, I highly recommend it.

Also, if the prices drop, it's usually because they've gotten their return on their R&D and manufacturing costs lower as production goes up, proof that prices drop means Apple is doing the right thing and giving their customers the savings.
According to a teardown report from research firm IHS, the components and manufacturing cost of a 16GB iPhone 6 cost Apple $200.10. The device is selling for $649 in the U.S. without a contract with a wireless carrier. That gives the device a profit margin of about 69%.
that's pretty normal and it's not all profit.(not even close to being all profit)
say you want a new deck built on your house.. your contractor is going to roughly do this:
1/3 materials ($2000)
1/3 labor ($2000)
1/3 admin & profit($2000) [and that's about 20% admin and 13% profit.. Admin fees pay things such as office space/tools/computers/paper/etc]
if apple is your contractor, it's going to be $6490 instead of $6000.. you decide if you just want the cheapest price possible or if you consider the extra 500 is worth it as you're a fan of their design, usability, etc..
necessary to keep repeating yourself?
sounds like you either are or were an apple employee
If Apple was building the deck, it would cost a lot more than just an extra $500 for a $6000 deck, if their profits for the deck match their profit on every iPhone sold.
And as the report I quoted stated, part of the profit they make is in fact spent on research and development, software, shipping, marketing, licensing and other costs. But even with all expenses included, Apple’s margins are more than plentiful.
The value of the customer having to submit their personal data whether or not they purchase an apple watch is so oooo shocking... You cannot just walk in and purchase the watch, make an appt? What the???? Apple, are you 'aboot to tell me that I have to provide information to even touch the product you sell FOR THE FIRST TIME IN RETAIL HISTORY!
i don't think you even know what profit means.. sorry
you think apple is profiting 70%+ on every iphone sold.. that is far from the case.
at some point, maybe you should admit to yourself that you know very very little about business.. it's completely (i mean completely!) obvious you don't know what you're talking about.
all youre saying is "i want lower prices!".. that's fine.. say that all you want.. we all want lower prices.
but don't say it from a standpoint of "i know business and i want lower prices"
Apple is a consumer electronics company.....It's actually pretty standard operating procedure in the luxury watch business to have this sort of one-on-one interaction with an employee and that's usually by appointment, because how else are you going to guarantee that that time is reserved for you? Apple's not doing anything brand new with this appointment system. They've been doing it at the Genius Bar for years.
Also, do you worry about your Apple ID that much? It's not like they're asking for your social security number.

I just love it how everyone is suddenly a business major and feel they must talk down to those who aren't. This forum is amazing sometimes. Please don't ever change.![]()
hide behind that defense all you like. the only person buying it is you.
everyone here isn't a business major. some people are. or, they actually run businesses.
they're not attacking you but play the victim all you like. you've posted more than anybody in this thread and most of it is just jibberish.
at some point, the people that know you're fos are going to just tell you to shut up already.
it's fine. you love the attention. (another thing you won't admit but is obvious to others)
So, how does what I wrote differ or conflict from the statement you made?

Your opinion obviously means a lot to me.

Yet you continue to.
Funny that.
I think you just enjoy talking down to people and pretending like you're teaching someone something. Which actually says more about you than it does about me.

Well I came here for intelligent discussion about Apple products. When I see someone writing with authority about something they clearly don't understand, and passing off lies and misinformation as fact, I feel the need to speak out.
Just like if someone came up to you and said that the sky is a lovely green color, when clearly it is not. And yes, I am aware of why the sky looks blue.
I am a business major (Peter de Vries on LinkedIn here). Your view of profit and how businesses work is severely flawed. Many people here have tried to explain how some of these things work without talking down to you, but you seem resistant to information from others and unprepared to do some research. A bit easy to resort to "I'm being bullied" when you choose to ventilate your opinion as fact and are not prepared to deal with people challenging your ideas.
