Good. I hope at least all my banking apps and so on will make use of this.

Another example of the "overreaching walled garden" /S

How is preventing theft of intellectual property "overreaching"?

If Apple truly can secure an App so that it can't be hacked, than it would be nice to see the option to resell apps you no longer want. Since Apple can confirm it's a legit copy, and they can ensure the original owner no longer has access, it shouldn't be difficult to introduce a safe, used marketplace.

🤦‍♂️

Apps get removed mainly because developers aren't interested in paying Apple the annual $99 fee to leave them listed. Apple doesn't have the interest of the consumer or the developer in mind - their focus is solely on making as much money as possible - your "safe, used marketplace" would take away from that.

Wrong. The $99 fee is not a "listing fee," and apps are not removed simply because a developer is no longer part of the program.

I know this is a bit off topic but a system that ensures integrity of game executables would cut down on cheaters in video games. If only Macs were suitable for gaming ...

I'm working on an App right now which uses cloud based AI predictions.
The work I'm doing is to allow these AI models to be loaded on to devices for offline usage.
The problem with this is that these models represent significant intellectual property (IP) which could be stolen from a jailbroken device.
My work stalled because we just couldn't find a strong and safe enough solution to be able to role this out confidently.
What you are seeing here is Apple acknowledging that for AI to progress on their devices there needs to be tighter security and to instil more confidence in developers to encourage them to develop apps like the one I'm working on.
CoreML at WWDC2020 got a new encryption feature which goes hand in hand with this.
So our way forward now is to wait for iOS14 and make it a mandatory requirement for this app feature.

Just remember they still get 30%

You are correct, it is not a listing fee rather akin to a subscription fee, i.e. you're otherwise mistaken.

Program Renewal - Support - Apple Developer
Expired Memberships
If your Apple Developer Program membership expires, your apps will no longer be available for download and you will not be able to submit new apps or updates. You will lose access to pre-release software, Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, and Technical Support Incidents. However, your apps will still function for users who have already installed or downloaded them, and you will still have access to App Store Connect and free development resources.

If your Apple Developer Enterprise Program membership expires, your apps will no longer be available for download and will no longer function for those who have already installed or downloaded them. You will still have access to free development resources.

iOS Developer University Program memberships do not expire.

The iPhone 6s can run iOS 14 what are you talking about
The original statement is a lose lose proposition... it will just be repeated blindly next year with iOS 15. One day the other person will be right and have the “I told ya” card.

That being said, thanks for the reminder... the iPhone 6S is a great step up from the 6. So much so that we still target it as a platform for the games the company makes.

Yeah. $9.99/month sure will break a lot of people...
Yeah until you realize all the savings is compounded for the entire family... In fact lots of media can have a $0 price on it if you know how to get it
