Funny...I drove past an airport today. I wonder if there was an Apple Engineer inside?

If it’s more than an experiment, then games would have to be key. (Web and email too, but people already have tons of ways that they use those, so carrying a bigger screen around just for that wouldn’t be any bombshell. That would compete against netbooks, but that segment seems pretty limited for now anyway.)

I think many of us are so used to thinking inside the box that we are given. As we know, Apple is known for innovation. In other words, change the game itself as opposed to always perfecting what's already developed. So I'm thinking round box . . lol. It's usually square but does it have to be? Hey it's possible, it still does the job regardless of form and might actually do a better job. I look at the link below as something more along the lines of tablet as opposed to just an $800 e-reader.

This was a joke, right? If not, then I assume you've never traveled on business (especially long-distance). It ain't a vacation, and the factories aren't exactly in tourist zones.

Anyway, this whole tablet thing is quite fascinating. How are they going to address one-handed, balancing-it-on-your-arm operation? How are they going to justify something $800 based on the iPhone OS, unable to run Mac programs or even Flash-based websites? What's going to be the killer app?

I continue to assume they have something up their sleeve to surprise us, or else I would predict the product to lack mass-market appeal. But they'll still sell some, because at minimum they'll be dead-sexy.

Haha, I do hope for full OSX.

I can hold a book of a similar size very easily, but I'm not equating a Apple Tablet with a netbook or laptop. I guarantee you it WILL be something that addresses our digital lifestyle. When I look at the percentage I use my iPhone as a phone, it is less than 3% of its total use.

However a book does not give off heat and make noises of a fan in motion. A book also does not have to be charged or run the risk of a battery overheating and possible smoking with a rare case of explosion. ;)

Is it the future, I am not certain. The idea of replacing a paper based book with a digital display has been voiced for years. Will this be another :apple: CUBE. Only time will tell. I hope you are right though.

Try a television

Apparently a TV these days is just too big ::ah:: I though ppl wanted big screen aka 27-30" iMac/ACD and larger LCD/LED TV's.

It is funny to observe individuals starring at they small smartphone or mp3 player screen, do it long enough and it puts a strain on the eyes. Do it longer and you just might go squinty. ;)

People just do not know what they want anymore, at least being an eye surgeon will pay off in the next 5-10 years. :D

Okay everyone, I've just come back from 2010 and I've seen this 'Tablet' that you speak of, though it's not really a tablet. You'll see anyway. What I can say is that Apple have really surprised everyone with this device, and it's not like anything you've seen before now. It's got a 10.5'' screen, looks a bit like a bigger iPod except for the all-silver back (like the iMacs that were released last Oct...sorry, that's now for you guys). It retains all the best features of a netbook, while using Apple's multi-touch gestures, it's also the best E-Reader I've ever seen (puts the Sonys and Kindles to rest easily!!), and has a realistic looking 'ink' quality to it.

Newspapers and books are delivered electronically via the new store added to iTunes, and any newspaper that you subscribe to is automatically updated daily.

On top of all this, it runs all the current iPhone and iPod games and has a 720p display for playing HD content.

You guys are gonna love it. :apple:

Yours
John Titor (that's Ty-tor, BTW).

Lovely to see that people are so excited about a rumored product. May I ask you what exactly could be the purpose of a tablet Mac, and what exactly it is you want to do with it that you cannot do with a notebook already?

There have been tablet PCs around for quite a while now, and yet, strangely, nobody seems to be using them. Could it be that those tablet machines actually don't fulfill any real purpose?

On the other hand, if that thing was working with e-Ink, and if it could be folded like real paper and would have the form factor of a pocket book and at least one week of battery life, then maybe, maybe somebody would use it... as a replacement for a scrap pad or something like that.

In all honesty, I see more uses in cell phones with an embedded projector - and that includes a projected keyboard.

Must be a nice life being an Apple engineer with all the trips to china. I wonder if we'll see it in January or later in the quarter. If it is launched just after Christmas we may be on version 2 by Christmas 2010!

That's not what I'd consider a nice life. I'd consider it unfortunate. But then again I'm not a big fan of going to China.

If it were trips to Italy, on the other hand, I'd rather enjoy it. :D

This has been beaten to death here.

In short, a tablet is conceivably going to be much lighter than most laptops, probably 2.5 pounds or less.

As an eReader, media device, and portable internet tablet, it could be valuable, providing that the price isn't too ridiculous.

I for one could definitely use an iPod Touch that has a 9" screen, as I already do a lot of things with my iPT that would work even better on a tablet, but that carrying a laptop isn't always convenient for.

Rumors is desperate for items cuz Schiller already put the kibosh an any holiday updates

Didn't Schiller also say last Monday that there wasn't going to be any new hardware announcements on Tues? And then what happened...??

Anyway... this tablet has so much hype when it's finally released if it doesn't cure cancer people are going to have fits

Silicon Alley Insider issued a brief report yesterday sharing secondhand information of an Apple engineer's increased trips to Asia of late and apparent additional upcoming trips during the usually-slow holiday season.

He could also simply be going there to check up on iPhone build methods.

(Thinking of the movie "Disclosure" with the poorly filtered air messing up an electronic assembly plant.)

Uh,

This has to be one of the lamest rumors I've ever read on MR.

Friend of a source???
ramping up trips to China???

Yep. Clearly, could only point to one thing.

Don't get me wrong. I think an Apple tablet is coming in the first half of 2010. But this rumor has absolutely zero impact on that prediction.

Too funny. There is this thing called MacWorld early next year. People should just wait for an announcement then.

There's absolutely no denying that Apple may be possibly working on a tablet computer. Sending one guy to China during the holidays is pretty solid proof that he may be working on said tablet. :p
