and they ended up with

And when they got done with the improvements the OS looked and acted surprisingly like Windows 8 !!!

How many more articles are we going to be hit with telling us iOS is getting revamped!? I just want to see the damn thing :(

LOL!

DeForstallization..

Anyways.. All this talk about iOS looking like Windows 8.. Microsoft didn't invent flat design. Google is going the flat design route yet it doesn't look anything like Windows 8. There's a million ways to make flat design.

Bring back Forstallllll!

Is this more media hating on him? I love the wood, the leather and the tape reels. I like the shredder in passbook. Nice touches to software that works. If I wanted a flat lifeless windows phone i would have bought one.

I do hope that it really is what Ive wants, and not what "das interwebz" is telling Apple to do.

There's really no clear message from "das interwebz" right now, while many are looking forward to a design overhaul and un-skeuomorphism, half of the forums already are freaked out over Apple "copying Android and Microsoft"...

I just hope it's not boring looking like "Google Now" for iOS. Call me crazy but some of those skeuowhajimacallit actually gives it charm in certain cases. Not everything works with it of course, and some are damn right ugly. But just playing with Google app, I would hate iOS to have that clinical feel.

really? i really like the UI of Google Now and their GMail app. they r clean and simple yet very stylish and modern.

i guess u either love or hate it kinda like some people prefer to live in a house full off "kuckucksuhren", oldschool wood furniture and pictures everywhere while others prefer to have everything white with no plants to be found anywhere

For the love of God, hire more damn engineers and stop being so greedy with your damn cash reserves.

So annoying.

Just throwing more engineers at a problem is almost never the solution. Quality work from an engineer requires time to learn and expand on the design as well as being a good fit for the team. I'll take right over fast any day of the week... as long as I get rumors to entertain me.

I'm actually starting to get a little excited about an iOS release :) First time that's happened in a very *long* time!!

Same for me. For some time now I've been thinking about moving to an Android phone, but now I'm really looking forward to the next iOS. Hopefully Ive can morph iOS into a bit more modern os, while staying true to the simplicity and ease of use.

This just looks like a battle between Ives and Forstall. Now that Ives is in power he is doing all he can to deface Forstall's work. What a waste of time and effort. I wish that instead Apple would focus on real useful innovations like making cross platform compatibility between all iOS/OSX/Classic/etc so that all applications could run on all devices. They have the computing power and shouldn't be wasting human resources on the DeForstallization while there is real work to be done. This just points out how Apple is too much of a monopoly. Sad.

So, when the notes and game center apps were released for the first time, didn't a certain SJ could have rejected them?

I don't mind blaming Scott Forstall, I don't know the guy personally and I don't care, but he seems like a convenient scape goat for *everything* these days...

I'm excited to see the UI refresh since it hasn't changed must since iOS 1.0. I just hope it isn't too flat and some skeuomorphism is left.

I also agree with this!

usability for customer comes before designer ego please.

A big part of apple's success, in my opinion, was connecting the user-interface with the real world experience.

An early example - Apple's (or Xerox) was the use of a manilla folder icon instead of the computer-eze comand line prompt interface.

I think the notepad in present iOS ( used and example of fortallization in this article) is a perfect continuation of this wildly successful concept. What advantage would dropping the instantly recognizable yellow ledger background serve?

I can understand some of the "flatten" approach - dialing back elements that are over the top - but I hope it doesn't go too far.

well said.

The Notes interface I really like. But the Games Center is PC ugly, wish I could delete it.
