Apple is erroneously sending emails to users asking them to update their iTunes Connect banking information, but the users receiving the emails often have no content being distributed via the service.

Users have flocked to Twitter to share their confusion over the email, which reads, "we're reaching out because your banking information in iTunes Connect is invalid and needs to be corrected to ensure the successful payment of any amounts owed to you."

For many users, the email is signed by the Apple Music Team, which would imply those receiving the email are artists with content on Apple Music. For reference, iTunes Connect is what producers, artists, writers, and more use to distribute their content across Apple's platforms.

"Once your banking information is corrected, it may take up to two payment cycles to send your payment. If you have any questions, contact us," the email continues. For users who do not use iTunes Connect, it's probably safe to simply ignore the email.

I got it and posted on Twitter about it because I thought it was fake. I had no idea what iTunes connect was.

This was the second time today that I received an email apologizing for an error. First email was from brain game company informing me that my trial subscription would expire in 2 days and that I would be charged. A follow-up email came out telling me that I did not. in fact, have an active trial and I would not be charged.
It just seems odd to get two of these so close together. And, as others suggested, it looks like a phishing attempt.

Yes I got that email from Elevate too!
Maybe its the provider for both of these platforms that got something wrong...

I was thinking the same thing which is why I posted. The "never mind" email from Elevate seemed odd. Then seeing the one from Apple was even more strange.

Got the same here. Additional confusion because, other than potentially having looked around at Apple Books some time ago, not sure why I got it.

Also, I'm based in the UK, and the email says:-

"In accordance with tax regulations in British Columbia, as of July 1, 2022, remittances for sales on the Book Store in Canada are reduced by a 7% provincial sales tax (PST) on Apple’s commission for publishers based in British Columbia. Apple Canada collects and remits the tax to the Ministry of Finance in British Columbia on your behalf. Starting in August, this tax will appear on your tax on commission statement in the Payments and Financial Reports section of iTunes Connect."

Go figure!

I received one. I checked the emails addresses in it and they looked legit. I thought “wow, these phishing emails are getting good”. So I did a web search on iTunes connect and logged in directly to the Apple site. Auto fill password filled in the password and account info so I figured it was legit and it was Apple.com. It asked what type of content I wanted to sell. I logged out and deleted the email.

I got this too, immediately thought it was spam, but couldn't find any red flags, but my bank account details definitely aren't out of date.

Odd email, but this story explains it.
